It may be for an older kit but that harness and garter and the strapping from forearm to bell is already being jotted in my "First Build Bible"! My hats off to you and your skill. This is a pretty old thread, and pertains to the first AM armor. There's better reference on more accurate armor makes nowadays but if you feel there's a useful tip here - feel free to follow it.
Now... To dig, scratch and save! You sir, are really making me itch for my first kit. Hopefully in a couple months.
Thanks for your brilliance!

wingnut65 believe me I understand the cost efficiency, but let me be perfectly honest.. I'm sort of itchin' for a fix, so in my short-sightedness...
I suppose I could just save and wait to be frank. But it's a matter of waiting 6 months+ versus 1-3. Well, darn, I'm not sure what to do!

That Imperial Gunner head is fantastic! I love the tie pilot too. For some reason that's been a favorite of mine. Was also my favorite figure too. All that black on black with hints of silver/grey and the hoses, just too cool.
What is that on the top left? That's pretty neat looking but I can't get a clear view. Sugar skull?

Warning though. Once you start you won't want to stop so you may aswell just order the whole thing straight away
That's...what I'm afraid of.. Believe me that thought is weighing heavily on what my final decision will be.
Thanks for the advice all the same!

That's what I did, and I gave the "practice" helmet to my son after.
Brilliant! My son would love that.

Hello there! I have a simple newb question. I'm currently looking at 2 different kits and trying to decide. But, before I commit to a full kit would it be wise to try and purchase a helmet kit separately and "practice"?
I'm assuming in the affirmative, as I'd rather not drop a large sum at one shot. I'm just curious if a head would be a wise place to start.
By-the-by, I apologize if this is a wrong place to pose such a newb question. I appreciate any input so please, don't be shy!

It sure does. I was actually working out an email to get some more info and pricing on the RTP Mod kit.
I have to say I really appreciate all the help. I look forward to trooping with you all one day.

Thanks kindly to all the warm welcome! This has been something I've wanted to do since I was a wee one watching the films. Albeit more glamorous to be a Jedi, but I have a certain love for the grunts who's backs carried the empire. Those tireless men (and women) who handed down the emperor's "justice". But most of all? That armor was just so frikin' sweet!
I guess the biggest thing is I'm just put together weird. I'm a 39-40 waist. Mostly arms and legs. I look like I'm ready for a flood at all times and I've YET to find a shirt with long enough sleeves.
You've inspired me to keep on looking Dark CMF. So I'll keep marching on. By-the-by, I'm out in NC raleigh-durham area. I'd love to meet some 501sters near by, if there are any.

Greetings and salutations to all!
My wife and I have kicked around the idea of looking in to the 501st for nigh on 2 years now. So, I made the plunge and started researching. And here I am! So a warm hello to everyone here and there and everywhere.
Now on the the nitty and the gritty.. I do have some "build" experience but in a much different facet but strangely similar. If anyone is familiar with the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) I am a heavy list fighter. Means I beat people with sticks. Ok, mostly I get beat with sticks, but I digress. So I have some comfort with the "craft in so far as padding a helm or molding some plastic or even leatherwork and rivets. But the more I research the more I fear..
Am I too...XXL for this fantastic and beloved (future) hobby? Standing at 6'4" and 260-270, am I just plain 'ol "unfit" to don those gleaming whites? Of course I'm not adverse to dropping a few more (holiday) pounds, but I'll never be that tawny sleek scout. Mayhap a wookie's life for me..
In the end I'll still research and continue to dream, but if there are more like myself that may shine a beacon (mmm, bacon...) in my darkest hour I'd appreciate an uplifting note. But, if a hutt I be then so be it!
