Don't get discourage.
There is always someone to help you here. Don't be shy to ask. I've had so much help with the Troopers on this board.
Thanks!! Pretty much everyone I've talked to so far has been really helpful or at least encouraging. I'm excited to get started!

Awesome, thank you so much!! Good resource, and it's super helpful seeing your modifications all laid out like that. Did you have to reshape any of your pieces? That seems to be a concern with a lot of trimming as it can make things look flat.

I knew I wasn't the only one, but it's still really encouraging to see that there are other ladies who have done it!

I knew i wasn't alone! There are some good resources out there if you know where to look, it seems like. I'm not going to get discouraged.
I think a combination of trimming (for height) and padding (for weight) looks like the best way to go.
Thank you!!

I'm looking to start putting together armor (or at least ordering the pieces of it?) and need some advice/direction.
I really, really want to go the ANH Hero direction (TK? still not really sure if I'm using the right terms, sorry...) but have been a little bit discouraged I guess because I'm small. I'm about 5'3" and 110 lbs, and also a girl. It doesn't really seem like there are that many going this route, but I'm hoping that somewhere out there there's another girl who's done this already. Just looking for advice on modifying armor to my body size/type and still having it look good. Anyone else done it? Know someone who has?
Side note: I tried on a few pieces, but they belong to someone who is significantly taller than me. It didn't seem like it would be impossible to trim things down to my size, but you never know.

I joined the DSG forum but it doesn't look like I really have any access to anything because I'm a new member (that might be a factor of accessing it on my phone, too). I was at PCC on Saturday but didn't make it over to any of the events (in the feature panels all day).
I would really appreciate any help you could give. Like I said I really want to learn and it would be super helpful to have someone around who doesn't mind teaching. Maybe I could try messaging you on here until I get the DSG forums figured out?

As far as the armor goes, I know it's not cheap to get in to & I'm willing to spend the money for quality/accuracy. I also want to learn how to make (or at least modify?) some of the pieces.

Thank you so much for the info/links! That helps a lot with finding a good starting point!
Yes, I was at PCC! Had an absolute blast, but didn't really think to actually talk to anyone about joining the 501st and getting started. Oops. I'll definitely be checking out the Arizona page, though!

Hello!
I've been going back and forth about joining the 501st for about two years and finally decided to just go for it. There is so much information out there and to be honest it's really overwhelming, but this seems like a good place to start. I really want to put together ANH Hero armor; it seems like with my body type I might have to do a lot of hand crafting (which might be a huge challenge since I have approximately zero creative skills). Even though I have hundreds of questions, I'm not really sure where to begin.
I'm 24, live in Mesa, Arizona, and have been watching Star Wars OT for as long as I can remember. (I'm really not sure what else to put here...)
Looking forward to being part of what seems like a really awesome community!

Awesome! I've already met up with a few people from DSG. Fingers crossed I should be able to start working on everything early next month! But I'm definitely trying to get involved and get to know everyone before then
