  1. Who doesn't want to be a Stormtrooper, eh? Welcome to the det, and don't forget to sign up on the UK Garrison boards if you haven't already. Regards -Tristan

Thanks all. I'll be sorting out a login to UKG next.

After reading on here, and extensive research, I will be purchasing armour from CfO, I've contacted Mark and he's been very helpful in helping me decide what optional extras I need (sunroof, power steering etc). I'll probably be getting it March/April time, then I'll be on here with cries for help and such. Prepare for much whimpering, as me and a craft knife don't exactly get on.

    As my thumbs will attest.

Couple of pictures from my first outing in armour here: http://edmonds-site.co.uk/Faraday/Startrek.htm along with some of my back story. Forgive the 70's haircut and tinted lenses.

  2. photos? welcome!

Hi all. My avatar is of the 'love that shall not be spoken'.

I've probably got a few more hidden somewhere amongst the other rubbish in the loft. My favorite is one where I am pointing out the troopers on some wallpaper, explaining to a young child who asked which one was me. It amazed me at the time how donning an iconic (not that I knew that at the time) costume allowed so many people to come up to me and chat. Looking back, it's my regret that I didn't carry it on, as I knew someone who made costumes & masks for Dr Who, and we discussed briefly about her making a trooper helmet, but she was tied up in a large project and it sort of drifted by.

    Damn you, BBC !

  3. Hello all,

After years of enjoying SW in the various media, I've decided to take the plunge and suit up. I've joined my local garrison, and hope to help out when they troop until I can get myself a suit to call my own.

I first became involved in sci-fi way back in 1977 when I attended a Star Trek fan convention in Liverpool. I enjoyed it so much that I joined the organising committee for the 1978 one, which was held in Slough. Star Wars was growing in popularity, and it was decided to put aside a room for displaying non-trek related stuff, which I was put in charge of sourcing. I phoned the 20th Century Fox press department, who gave me loads of 10x8 stills to display. I also helped arrange for Anthony Daniels and Dave Prowse to speak at the convention to the assembled multitude. Just before the convention, someone phoned us to say that they could loan us a few stormtrooper suits for the weekend if we wanted (!), as long as we returned them afterwards. I, of course, volunteered to don one of the suits in order to escort Dave Prowse onto the stage, and back off afterwards. I still have pictures of my walk around Slough, fully suited, which got me thrown out of McDonalds and had me trying on suits in the local tailor's shop.

When we returned the suits, the security guard let us in to the warehouse, and told us to let him know when we had finished. Unbelievable ! We spent a while looking through the props and costumes, examining the sets being stored there, before leaving without any kind of security check. If I had been at all of the mind, I could have filled the van with any number of props.

Unfortunately, married life, children and moving from London to MK forced me to drop out of the convention scene, and I never got to play with the many friends that I made way back then. It is only now, in my twilight years, that I find myself in a position to rekindle my delight in "dressing up" (as my other half so delightfully refers to it), and I want to don the armour again. Through lurking on here, and contacting the MK Garisson, I see that the mentality of the people involved hasn't changed, that you seem to accept people 'as is', so I feel that I will fit right back in. And raising money for charity while indulging my love of Star Wars seems a win-win for me.

I look forward to making new friends, meeting some of you, chatting on here, facebook or wherever, and hope that I can bring something to the community.

    And wearing armour again.

    Robin
