  1. I'm worried that I may have taken a bit too much off of one of my forearms, but before I went into panic mode I thought I would ask. Can I use a shim on the backside of the cover strip to add material and use a  bit larger cover strip? What are some options for fixing this problem? Thanks

    Cheers!

  2. I wish I had an excuse for my mistake with the cover strips, but it's just inattention to detail. Thanks for pointing it out gents (and thank god I used the E6000 glue).

I've checked a couple builds and have seen a couple different sizes for the cover strips. Is there a set size, or is it based off of how much of the return edge you're taking off?

Skypig, I'm still in. Been in Washington, Missouri, and Helmand AFG. Currently doing the Guard thing here in Illinois. California? Talk about the good ole' days.

  3. It was suggested that I post a build thread here after I posted some questions on other parts of the forum, as this is my first go at an armor build. I am finally getting started on my NE build after staring at the box for a year trying to get the gumption to make the first cut. Now that I have begun, I don't think my apprehension was misplaced. The NE plastic is thick, and is taking a lot more elbow grease than I though to cut through with a new shop knife. I thought I did my research well, but as I proceed I am finding that I still have a lot of questions. Attached are some pictures of my limited progress so far. Looking forward to everyone's assistance and input as I slog my way through this project.

P.S There will be a MTK bucket build later

P.P.S I am not sure what happened with the pictures, the smaller I resized it to the bigger they got

    Cheers!  :pint1:

  4. Greetings all!

It's been over a year since I received my NE armor kit from Troopergear, and today I finally started work. I am immediately encountering issues, and I was hoping someone out there could help me out. I've cut the running edge and some cover strips but as I go to assemble the forearms they don't seem to line up on both ends (see pictures). Did I approach the trimming the right way, or did I totally f' this up already? Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

  5. After some hours of reading up on the forums and emailing the providers as directed by FSID's extremely helpful armor thread I have come up with a number of options for my first kit. Being so new to this I am still not sure on the details and the differences between all of them so I am turning to you guys for some help. I think I have narrowed it down to the following kits:

    RS Props

    MTK

    AP

The one thing that has been made clear to me is that RS Props is the most detailed, but also the most expensive. I am not really concerned about price at this point, so it is an option for me. What are everyone's thoughts on these kits for a first timer? For reference, I am 6' 210 lbs. Really any input would be welcome or I am just going to throw a dart at my email...

    Cheers,

  6. Officer Chris,

Good to see a fellow sheepdog on here! Have you communicated with the armor providers already? I am pretty close to making up my mind on which kit to get for my TD as well, but the wait time you just listed for ATA is disheartening as that is where I was leaning. Good luck with everything, and stay safe brother.

  7. Thank you all for making me feel welcome. Initally i was worried about being an outsider, but you all have proven me wrong!

As stated before I am just getting started in this world and as of yet do not have any armor. I have read the post on here about where to go and who to avoid maybe a dozen times now and although I cannot over state how helpful it has been thus far each time I read it I have a new question. I was wondering if you guys could help me out a bit with the following inquiries.

I am planning on a TD armor build and it is obvious that there are some differences in the TK and TD armor other than the weathering, such as the smooth shoulder straps and unique knee plate. When ordering from the suppliers that are recommended do I specify that I am doing a TD build and those details will be included in the kit or is it up to the trooper to modify his/her kit from a TK?

The post states that most armor is created with a 5'10" 165lb actor in mind. I am slightly larger, coming in at 6' and 210 lbs. How difficult is it to modify the armor for someone of a larger size, if it is needed at all?

I have done some research on the lids themselves and the amount of variation and detail which was at first unnoticeable is now mind boggling. Is it possible to order just a lid from one kit and just the armor from another?

Finally, when I get back home I will be living in a smaller apartment with a roommate. In order to avoid any violence we try to keep the place as clean as humanly possible for two guys in their 20's. How much room, special equipment, and mess are required for the necessary modifications to the kit armor?

I think that is all I have for now, but I am sure that there will be plenty more by the end of the day.

    Cheers

    -Chris

Note: I posted a very similar post on the MEPD forum but I dont think there is such a thing as too much help :smiley-sw013:

  8. Greetings everyone!

My name is Chris and this is my first post on the FISD page. Right now I am just trying to absorb as much information as I can about trooping and it looks like I have my work cut out for me. I do not own any armor yet but from what I have learned all ready it appears to be a daunting, yet exciting task.

Currently I am deployed with my Guard unit to a place called Camp Bastion in Helmand, Afghanistan so I am not going to be buying any kits for at least a few months, but this gives me some time to learn what I can (and try not to make a fool of myself in the process).

I am interested in TK, TD, and Scout varients and have also joined the MEPD board. Any help pushing me in the right direction as far as getting started would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys!

    -Chris
