  1. Ok I've made some progress, but I'm running into some issues in the lower half of my body:

Ok here's where the issue comes up. The legs. I feel the clatter is too much and there is not enough space in the knee area. So I'm wondering: do I trim off the top of the thigh and bring them up? or do I trim down the bottom of the calf and let them down? Also, I'm aware I havent finished the crotch pieces so that part is not secured.

The top feels nice and tight. I still need  to trim the fore arms down, I'm guessing at the top to make everything even? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. My current assembly method with RT-Mod is the overlap method, and even though it puts me out of the running for centurion, and I'm actually totally cool with it. I think the centurion title should reflect the hard work, dedication, and skill of those individuals who strive for perfection and screen accuracy. The overlap method for ANH derived, (as smexy as I think it looks) isn't screen accurate. This post is merely me showing my agreement, lol. Great newsletter and very informative!

  3. Alrighty, here we go! I did a test fitting tonight and I've got a couple questions.

Ok, thats everything so far. Shoulder bells feel right, but I think I'm going to shorten the right forearm to bicep strap a bit and make them even. Now for me "problem" area:

    IMG_2822.jpg

So this. I'm a bit picky when it comes to wearing armour. IRL, when I wear my body armor for work, it's extremely snug. I'm not sure if TK armor is supposed to fit the same way. Anyways, visually, this protruding bit bothers me. Functionally, it doesn't get in the way or cause any discomfort. I've already cut quite a bit off the kidney plate, normally making half inch cuts each time. I'm apprehensive of making a cut on the ab plate mostly because it takes off right into the angle. So the question is, just how tight does the ab to kidney section need to be?

Would foam pieces inserted under the armor help?

I'm also aware that the fabric belt (whenever it arrives) might also help out with this. And I am using velco to hold it together, but maybe 2 snaps at the top will do the trick?

    Helmet fit: $%#$#^

So, never having worn such awesomeness, I have no idea how its supposed to fit. Is it normal to almost have almost zero head movement (left / right) before the bottom parts of the helmet hit the chest piece? I'm going to tinker with the inside a bit eventually, but right now the helmet seems about right viewing wise. Also, my wife is short and I was looking down a bit. Thanks for taking the time to read!

  4. Coverstrips it shall be! but currently I'm attending my sisters wedding in Florida. I'll upload more pics a bit later.

Even doing the overlap system you can still add cover strips, I have seen it done a few time and it takes a trained eye to notice it ;)

I don't think you will have any problems using a hero neck seal, most wouldn't know the difference.

Looking forward to some photos :D

Are there any builds on the forums that use both? I'm only tracking the coverstrip method

  5. here's some pics from the build thus far:

No, I didn't ACTUALLY do the dishes in my gloves. But I did do the dishes eventually.

Charlie, from my local garrison (Titan up here in WA), came over to help me get everything sorted and help me get started. Having someone from the garrison there really helped me out. Thanks Charlie!

I'm not using fabritac, im using e6000 , I swear!

I had some friends come over and help me with the shoulder straps and spacing. This is before we made corrections to make them even in the back. I used a boiling pot of water and some tongs to get the fit right.

    IMG_2739.jpg

I'm having a ton of fun putting it all together. I think I finally got the spacing right on the straps for the upper half. I'll have the Mrs. take some pics without me posing in a FB selfie manner, lol.

  6. What was I thinking?!

I've been diligently assembling my armour and realized *gasp* I never started a thread!

But seriously, I'll start uploading pics soon. I've got the arms pretty much finished and have begun taping up the legs. But first I have a couple questions:

I'm in the process of getting in better physical shape (and much to the Mrs. delight), my biceps are getting bigger. I decided to go with the overlap method with the biceps, mainly because I may need to re-adjust / re-size them a little bit down the road.

However comma, I want to use the coverstrip / butt-join method whenever possible, because lets face it, it looks sharp. Is a mix match method allowed / authorized?

I would love to shoot for Centurion, but knowing that I'll be purposefully growing in size makes the more permanent nature of coverstrip less appealing.

And as a side note, is the Hero neck seal useable with Stunt armor? I was scouring the forums and couldn't find that question before. I know there are differences mainly the bib and number of ribs, but is it that specific for EIB?

Thanks for the time and help all!

  7. Hi Kyle and welcome :)

My AP armor cost about 3 car payments. haaa haaa... My hubbie's RTMod was about 3 car payments, too.

I'm not sure if I can talk about price without being taboo. I have no idea on the price of TM, but i hear it's awesome.

I bet you can PM some guys to find out, or contact the sellers. You've probably seen the info in the "Getting Started"

thread.  Good luck and thank YOU for your service!

Haha! 3 car payments, I love it! Best response I've seen. I've sent 'the man' an email about it, so now I'm playing the waiting game. Combat Photographer?!?! Thats my RL military job! Well, videographer actually, but I've been known to take some photos from time to time. I'll be uploading my "I love me" video next month, lol. Thanks for the info and especially for the support!

  8. Oh heck yes!!  :jc_doublethumbup:  My best friend's girlfriend is the sister of the producer. Been getting lots of behind the scenes info and I am so stoked about this film. It's about time we get something like this and I hope it will encourage more giant robot and Kaiju movies! People predict bad acting and corny dialogue but who cares!? That is not why I go to see these types of movies...

Exactly. I'm just glad the genre is getting some spotlight. And its going to be a 'breath of cinematic fresh air' in my opinion. Something different. And its Del Toro :P

  9. Is anyone out there as exited for Pacific Rim as I am?! It's the combination of everything I loved as a kid in one movie: Robots, Kaiju, and cool suits of armor. I'll definitely be hitting the midnight premiere for this one.

  10. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Welcome Kyle. As co-GML with our very own FISD founder Daetrin, I invite you to introduce yourself on the Garrison Titan boards as well. Let us know what we can do locally to assist you.

I'll definitely head over and give everyone a big hello! I may have met some of you last year around 4th of July-ish? I came out to shoot some video for a project I was doing (which unfortunately got put on the backburner due to life getting in the way).

Yup, that would be me. RT can certainly fit you well enough. In fact, any screen derived armor will fit you as well. I'm 6'0" and 180lbs so pretty similar. The only downside is the legs - only RT makes legs that really fit a taller trooper well, though I suspect TM would too but alas I've not had the privilege to sport this armor yet. When I use screen derived suits I just swap out the shins with RT at least.

My $.02 - seems everyone's experience varies a little. We'll buy you some brews when you get home - stay safe!

The more I read, the more RT seems the way to go, and the durability of ABS would make sense since I can forsee a lot of moving in my future. I would like to do an ANH Hero. I'm a complete newb at armor building, so I'm a little nervous with the details. But you'll never learn till you try right? *nervous laugh*

  11. Hey folks!

Clever detective work results in discovering that I'm in the military, lol. I've met quite a few troopers and they tell me that there are plenty of military members out there, so a big hello to any that see this! I'll be honest, I originally wanted to be a Fett, but I've heard building a TK is a good way to get introduced to building a great costume. Is that accurate? It all can be quite overwhelming at first. I'm eager to learn, so please feel free to contact me! I'm thinking of an RT kit. I'm 6' 0" and 189lbs, so would that be a good match?

I'm currently in Afghanistan, so I'll try to get on here as much as I can. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
