  1. Hey everyone,

By a chance of luck or timing I was able to get my hands on an earlier spot for some ATA armor - I figured since I have some downtime at work to start my build thread. I'm more than likely going to do the ANH Stunt - still trying to find the major differences between Hero and Stunt, though I've heard teeth and neck seals are some of the main differences.

I will probably be following some of the ATA armor build How-To's here to have a better understanding of ATA's armor and how people build with it.

I'm more than likely going to be joining my husband in the Florida Garrison of Squad 7 so I can get onto the build thread for the FL501st.

I'm hoping to work on my helmet this week since I want to wear it for pictures in my wedding next Sunday then work on the actual kit and aquire the rest of my pieces once I get back. Probably going to host an armor party too so I'm not doing this on my own as well.

Going to add pictures once I can access them too :)

  2. Welcome to FISD, Heather! More ladies in white, I'm a little biased toward them ;)

I have to say I had no idea how much this whole thing would cost, so brace yourself :) But your dreams of becoming a stormtrooper can happen with a little persistence and perhaps some crazy fund-raising ideas. Be sure to ask for cash for your holiday gifting! Or at least thing of value you dont' really want so you can sell them off. Bake sales, car washes... seriously I am not above these things myself! Get your dorm-mates involved and excited about it, so that they want to help you - you never know who can sew you a neck seal or who has the tools you'll need to put your suit together. Feel free to PM me for my secret list of where I got all my accessories on a dime, and read my build thread (under my sig banner) for some details only ladies need. You'll soon be on your way!!! Don't expect it to happen quickly, though - another thing I learned joining the 501st and doing costuming in general is that patience is a virtue! Some things take months.

Best wishes - we're here to help!

Ingrid - you're a godsend. It's so nice to hear from female troopers as to make adjustments just for the female body and your build document is amazing! I may have to find a way to fundraise outside of putting extra money aside from the Greek Lettered shirts I sew for people. Maybe sell a sewing machine I don't use (I have 3... O_O) and so on.

I'm definitely going to stalk the boards religiously until I can buy my armor. :)

    Thanks all!

  3. And I mean "new" in all sense of the word.

My name is Heather and I've been a Star Wars fan since I can remember - dad got me into it at a young age since I am an only child. College student, sorority girl, fangirl of all sorts. My boyfriend already has a 501st approved Imperial Guard costume and it has really pushed me to start on mine.

So here's the thing - I'm am college student so that means that funds are limited. I also have a knack for picking expensive hobbies and having a movie quality Stormtrooper costume has been a dream of mine for a long time.

I'm not sure if I should post it here of start a thread in the armor boards, but...where would the best place to start in piecing armor together on a college student budget (I have a box on my dresser that says "Trooper Fund"). I feel that easiest things for me to get would be the under suit, gloves, boots, holster and blaster. I know Ebay is something to avoid like the plague and to try and get armor from someone else who is a member and is selling.

I'm looking at putting together the ANH Stunt TK Stormtrooper.

I'm pretty sure my armor is going to take the longest, but I'm willing to be patient. I am very open to suggestions as to where to go and how to work on it as I scour the forums on here :)
