  1. I wish! While I'm done with the major cutting, Most of the parts still need 1mm or so of trimming. Not my fault you stopped growing!

Oh, and my helmet is 90% :D I'll post pictures when I finish it.

Hahaha! This is true! I just sent my first round of pics for approval! I still have a ton of work to do I think.... but at least it's assembled! I'm too embarrassed to post pics yet! =D

  2. Good catches!! I can't believe I put the stripes on the wrong way! I sat there for 10 minutes staring and measuring before I applied them.

The ears took me hours upon hours to sand and trim... it was extremely hard to get them to line up without a gap and both sides are so uneven! I guess this is what everyone goes through, eh? =D

  3. Yay! I was hoping you'd be up!! I'm freaking out!!! Hahaha!

I should trim the top of the thighs, right? And lastly, where I have the red line, that's where I trim the bicep?

I'm going to keep on rolling and see where I'm at by Tuesday, I might send an SOS your way. =) Until then I'm going to keep cracking at it and try not to make too many expensive mistakes. =)

  4. Hello expert troopers! I'm almost all trimmed up and I'm to the point where I need to start measuring for my body and glueing pieces together. I'm 5'3 so I know I'm going to have to lose some inches all over this bad boy; I just don't want to lose the wrong parts!

Here's what came out of the box:

I've already made a mess!! (ignore the dog bone in the lower right!)

I've cut everything out except for the biceps because I'm a little confused... it seems like I'm supposed to cut where the red line is... but it's way lower than the other side. I've looked at a ton of pictures but I can't seem to find the right angle of photo (or they're assembled with the shoulder and it's hard to see).

I'm needing to cut the forearms, thighs and shins. The thighs and shins I can get on just fine, but I can't bend my knees because they're just too long! The bottom of the shins have a nice return edge, but I'm guessing that would be the best place to cut so I won't lose the details around the knees (I know one side will be covered by the ammo belt though). The thighs are another monster. The bottom has the raised lip but the top has a return edge! I'm also having some lineup issues when I clamshell the sides together:

I put the pieces on my leg and taped while it was on there to see how it should fit. There's some serious overlap on both the front and the back to get it a good (not too loose, not too tight) fit. I'll probably have to compromise, cut as much as I can and then pad the inside so it doesn't wiggle around.

I've bookmarked and read tons of threads with pictures, tutorials and guides. I'm trying to do this all on my own, but every once in a while I get really nervous I'm making a bad decision. Now that I'm moving from the "basic trimming" phase to the "cut and glue" phase I'm a bit nervous I'll make a mistake. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  5. Wierd! Instead of going to 14806 it's going to 1480... anyway it's the Pandatrooper helmet assembly thread. The visible rivets on the side are different between hero and stunt and as far as the helmet goes, the brow line is lower on hero and there's two less tooth holes. (the grey also doesn't extend the entire portion of the mouth)

I'm super nervous. I just started cutting! I'm a mess!

I'm trying not to freak out!!! I got my boots from TK boots (they didn't have a size 6 so they're a bit too big for me, but it's okay with big socks). I'm still waiting on my Sskunky mike tips, neck seal, canvas belt and detonator clips to come in the mail. As far as things I can buy in stores... I couldn't find the right blue paint (but I'm going to go ahead and start cutting tonight.. I figure I wont' have to paint for a little while anyway!!)

I was looking at the differences betwen ANH hero and stunt, and while I like the look of the hero helmet, I'm thinking stunt would be easier? I'm just finding a lot more reference imagery and walkthroughs based on stunt. In addition to LadyinWhite's awesome doc, I'm looking at this for the helmet: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=14806 (the pandatrooper walkthrough) Honestly though, I'm most confused about the snaps on the ab/kidney plates.

Should I start a build thread or is this a good place to ask questions? I want to follow protocol!

    EDIT: fixed incomplete link

  7. Over the weekend I did some shopping! I bought boots, the neck seal and a canvas belt. I tried to buy the fancy mic tips from trooper bay but the link was down. I also PM'd the guy that makes the cool cannister clips. I'm going to go to home depot sometime this week and pick up the tools, paint and supplies I'm missing... and then I'll be set! I also read Ingrid's ap build about 10 more times. =D

I have a holster, but no gun. Is the blaster necessary for approval?

And I'd love to come to another armor party! Hopefully by then I'll have a lot of things together and you guys can help me fix whatever I've broken somehow! =D

  8. So after Ingrid's awesome armor party I decided to take the plunge and ordered an AP kit. I didn't expect it to come for a while, but I just got my UPS tracking number this morning!! I honestly had written off getting it together in time for Comiccon since I took so long to decide whether I could do it or not, but now that it's coming I feel like it's a possibility. I'm also REALLY excited to get started so I'm going to dedicate all my time to doing it right and putting it together.

Everyone's been so helpful, I really appreciate it! I've compiled at least 10 threads with building how-to's and assembly suggestions. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress... and I'm sure I'm going to post questions in the future.

I think I'm also going to sign up for a mentor in my area if that's still available.

    Thanks again everyone!!

  9. Amazing! Based on the thread it seems like it took a good amount of expert modifying to get it to look and fit right. I don't think I'm going to be able to do it on my own, which is sort of what I was afraid of! I'll be on the lookout for Ingrid, maybe she has some ideas. =)

I'll also sign up and bookmark the Socal forum! Thanks for the quick responses!!

  10. Hi members!!

I've wanted to join the 501st for almost 10 years now. At first I was just a kid with no money, then when I did have money, my SO felt it was a silly way to drop a grand. After some fairly recent life-changing events, I am now in a position to follow my dreams and finally join the 501st. I've looked through the pages and boards trying to familiarize myself with all my options. (this thread is fantastic!:http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=11538&st=0) I was going to post my questions there, but then I saw that it was customary to introduce yourself here first.... so here I am! =)

I am a 5'3, 130lb female. It sort of seems like AP would be the best manufacturer for me since it's ANH derived and requires little assembly. I'm still concerned that I'm too short? Does anyone have any recommendations? I've been wrestling with the idea of dressing up for comic-con (because that would be so cool) but I know it's simply too soon... unless someone has some armor already created they're willing to sell me. =) I'd love to be an ANH Hero.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
