What's up Brother?! Good to "see" you taking these steps...you won't find a more wretched hive of...wait - I mean you won't find a better bunch of TKs than the fine clean ones here at FISD. Seriously, good people that are happy to help and direct folks as they set out on their builds.

Not sure this has been covered yet - but I used cheap knee pads from Wally World that came with elastic straps...they (knee pads) fit perfectly in the bell and then give you the benefit of where ever position it...it stays

Without seeing pics a pretty straightforward fix could be to shim one of/or both pieces. Given your height and the size of the gap adding to both may maintain the sense of proportion better than just extending one the full amount. Because its a Sandy repaint and weather shouldn't be as obvious as if you were a clean TK trying to then match the look of the rest of your rig. My .02 :)
