  1. Well folks, after a turbulent spring break, my parents finally came to a conclusion as whether they'd support a TK build over the summer. After giving them the pitch about this organization, they are still skeptical and have refused any help with paying for costume parts: thus making the build financially an impossibility.

I suppose they've a right to say so, since I'm still in college and need to focus on my studies, but I thought it was rude of them to blow off this organization as a sort of "hokey" little club that dresses up in expensive costumes for little more reason than Halloween parties. My dad was really only concerned with whether or not it was something I could put on my résumé (which I'm adamant it is).

So my TK build is going to have be put on the back-burner for a few more years. I'll still be posting on here to keep researching for the inevitable build, but quite honestly I'm pretty miffed after coming so close to achieving this (and it hasn't been a good week for me anyways, but that's another can of worms).

Anyways, there's my angry venting on the matter. Hopefully I'll be trooping with you all in a year or two.

  2. Hey gang,

I'm rreeaalllly hoping to put in my order for some ATA this weekend, but I still have a little more work to do beforehand. One of these things on my to do list is get a list of the supplies I need (besides the armor itself) to start the construction.

The problem is, it feels like there are SO many different materials and tools I need to obtain, from dremels or sandpaper, to snaps, fabric, masking tape, and sewing stuff. It all gets a little confusing. Is there anywhere that provides a comprehensive list of a the basic supplies you professionals use to make a top-notch TK?

    Thanks all,

    -Grant

  3. Hey gang,

I'm on Spring Break right now, so I've been doing lots of research on armor, and I think I'm going to settle with some ABS-style ATA armor. But before I get started, I just wanted to ask you who know much better than I do about a few things:

    1) I'd really like to go for Expert Infantryman, but am unsure as to which type I ought to. So far, most people have been recommending ANH Stunt, so I'm thinking I might stick to that. I also like the look of it a bit better. Anybody feel otherwise?

    2) Considering I've never had a project like this before, I'm going to need a lot of help and advice. Any tips or tricks that you all have would be super-appreciated!

    3) If I put my armor order in this week, it'll probably get here around the beginning of May. Anything I ought to do while I wait in order to prepare?

Thanks all. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

  4. Hey all,

As I've introduced, I'm looking to get my hands on some armor, and I've found an offer on some ABS ATA Armor. It does not include decals. Before I make a purchase, I just want to ask some advice or some opinions from people who actually have armor experience. Here it goes:

    1) Is this a fair price? (Anybody know of a better stateside deal?

    2) How easy would ATA be to assemble for someone who has no armor experience like myself?

    3) Is this a decent buy for me, considering I'm 5'9" and 130lbs?

Any and all feedback is appreciated!

  5. Hey all!

My name is Grant, and I am a first year student at Miami University (Ohio, not Florida, people) looking to apply for 501st membership this summer. I really admire what the group does in terms of community outreach and charity. Also, I'm a fan of costuming and cosplay, but don't really have any good costumes besides a cheap Vader from the Halloween costume store.

Which brings me to my biggest predicament in terms of actually joining the 501st: Unless they radically change their policy on costuming to allowing the cheap retail stuff, I have no way of getting in. I've been trying to do research in terms of where to actually purchase my armor and equipment, but have been relatively unsuccessful. If anybody could push me in the right direction or is willing to sell me some armor parts, that'd be great. I am one of your stereotypical "poor college students," but I'm fairly confident that I can pay off the stuff I buy (especially when I start up my summer job. Mostly right now, it's research time).

Thanks so much everybody. I look forward to meeting you all, and hopefully trooping with some of you (if you're in the Ohio Garisson, that is)!

May the force be with you!
