1. I didn't really think they looked bad. I don't think they looked like stuff eBay...
I was shocked at some of the key differences in the armor though. The shoulder strap holder on the back plate is really wierd, the big trapezoid boxes to hold the shoulder straps??? I can understand some of the design choices, these suits were not made for guys to just stand around in, these are for running, jumping, flipping around, getting beat up. For the most part though, I think they are getting it right. And I would rather have a new movie, with some armor that does not match the OT all the way, than nothing new at all.

  2. So, yeah....I did contact them about a refund, and explained my feelings. I was told a refund would be no problem, but that the item should require no more than 15 minutes of sanding. I'm sorry, but if it requires any sanding, why is is it primed? I always primed last, with maybe a quick sanding on the prime to help the paint job stick, but to sand to smooth the surface of something already primed??? I'm perplexed by this comment. If I need to smooth the surface, why did you prime it???? Yeah, I'm sending it back tomorrow.....

Does anyone know why doopy doesn't do his kits anymore?

  3. Ok, weird question a bit on topic, a bit off. So, if I went out, and spent the roughly $5,000 for a MG-34 and made mold of it, with the intent to make them into DLT-19's and sell them, would that be considered recasting?

Now if someone took my parts and used them to make their own molds to copy and sell parts that is definitely the intent of the word recasting.

If I hand made/sculpted a version of the "DLT-19" based off the MG-34 and made molds for my parts to then sell it, is that recasting?

I have an E-11 that someone told me they "made" and it was "their" design and superior and more accurate to any other out there. After looking at a Doopy, all the numbers were identical... So yeah, a total recast of a Doopy kit.

  4. Correction to my above post! I do apologize to everyone and to Diamond State props. I got the price I was charged wrong. it was back in December and all. And like I said, I was going to go with one thing, then changed it...and the new price on the website is $350, but I was only charged $295 total including shipping.

  5. Hey everyone! Just got my Diamond State Props DLT-19 in today, and thought I would share my review and some pictures.

    First off my grade:

    Grade: C

I paid $350 for her, and seeing how the price jumped from $195 to $350 from July 2015 to December 2015, this seems odd, but ok. Maybe they underestimated the amount of time, work, whatever. But for $350, for something that comes primed, I shouldn't have to do anything to it other than paint it. Yeah, that's not the case. She needs some work! I know DSP has been going through a lot of trouble lately and has basically shut their doors, except for doing some small runs in the future, but the product I got really doesn't look anything like the stuff one their website where it says "Actual photo, not a computer render". The prime paint job on this thing really left a lot to be desired. The wood was barely sanded, and is really rough, and you can see so much of the grain. I do not feel this is worth $350. $195, yeah, but not $350. I was pretty excited to here that they would still be doing runs in the future...Yeah, I be won't getting on them. I won't be asking for a refund, but I won't be a returning customer. I know the DLT-19 is pricey, heavy, and hard to make, but I feel this is pretty boarder line acceptable for the amount of money paid. The buttstock has a pretty bad gap where it meets the body on the bottom, so it is sitting not quite even. I can fill the gap in, but I shouldn't have had too.

Unfortunately I don't have very good lighting or a good camera (iPad), so the pictures may not be the best. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is garbage or anything, the overall workmanship is pretty good, but I don't feel that this is worth $350, and does not compare to what they had advertised on their website. My intent is not to come here bash them, but to show what I got and give my honest opinion. Overall, I feel ok with my product, but feel i overpaid for it, but I am willing to put the time in to fix it myself.

  6. Wow....this Anovos stuff is really getting out of hand now. Yes, real events that are happening are horrible, but these really aren't the forums to be talking about that. I can understand that people are excited for their new armor, and are excited to see what will or will not be accepted in to the 501st. But like any armor out there, none are 501st ready, and if a part or two has to be replaced, no big deal really. If that ruins the experience for some people, well, I guess it does then. Then it really doesn't mean it's for the sick children and the community and the charity work like some are saying...

  7. Once again Dday is dead right. I didn't hear anyone screaming to change the CRL for the Rubies. The 501st should be about movie accuracy and looking good, setting a costume standard. The 501st should walk in to a room or an event, and for the most part look uniform and identical. They troopers should look like they walked right out of the movie screen and into real life. Rubies doesn't do that. No one knows about Anovos yet. Just because something is licensed by Lucasfilm or Disney should not make it 501st approveable or "canon" or CRL. So if these these are going to be ok to use, then why can't the eFX PCR helmets? They are licensed and look "good enough".

Here is a great example of 501st quality, and the other guys...

  8. All joking aside, I think many people are ignorant of the fact that this was introduced into the Clone Wars. I am not saying this as a negative thing, I am using the words in their true definition. If someone didn't watch the show, and didn't know about this, but had an old book that said the canister on the back was for O2, I can easily see the confusion. So I think it is a valid question. Thanks for the great picture. I was too lazy to find one.

  9. Well, just like in our world of weapons, we have all kinds of different grenades. They come in all manner of shapes and sizes.

But if you are looking for a Star Wars in universe Canon reference, then here you go. The Clone Wars. It was about Season 4 or 5 and in a nut shell, young Boba, and some bounty hunters were on a planet, Mace, Anakin, and R2 went there. The trap was sprung, and R2 pulled the "O2" canister from the back of a dead clone, turned a dial on it, and dropped it down a shaft, and KABOOM...... So after years of debate of what it was, in Canon it was shown on the Clones to be a "Thermal Detnator" type weapon, and it makes sense that the TK would follow suit, as it is very similar in size and shape, and placement on the armor.

I was always on the O2 team myself, but the canon shows us different.

  10. The eFX PVC is very idealized and more symmetrical and more in line with what was supposed to be in universe. It's funny how the powers that be here in the 501st say that helmet can not meet the basic requirements because it looks too different from the movies, but here we have this thing, that looks nothing like the movies and it looks like that it will be ok to meet the basic requirements to be 501st.

  11. Hi, I'm confused as well. But either way, welcome. I live in Northern Virginia as well. In Stafford. I just joined up with our Garrison and have attended one event, have hosted two armor parties, and attended one armor party. I bought my my fist TK kit back around 2011/12, and my second in early 2013. Due to a bunch of stuff, I put them away never finishing them. I got them out, and I'm going to finish them up, and become a full member. Shoot me PM if you want to.
12. Well, the thermal detonator build is way off. A stunt bucket with hero belt and holster.

For me, meh... I'm glad I passed on the run. But I have two sets that still aren't done yet. For those that are getting this, I hope it turns out good. I need to get off my bum and get my RS Props done, and get my membership!!!!

  13. A long over due update!! Well, not much progress on the suit... Hey everyone! It's been too long. Well, a quick catch up. Well, I was hoping to have my suit ready for CEII here in Germany, but that is not going to happen, then I was not even sure if I was going to be able to attend CEII. So lets see, what has happened then, well first off, I am now retired from from the USAF with over 20 years of active duty service!!!! I am now a civilian again!! So with no more TDY ( free trips to the desert), reports, meetings, Airman getting into trouble, recalls, and readiness exercises, I have been doing what any one would do. I took time off. From about everything. Also, we moved, and like always, it's always a big pain in the butt. Also, my wife has to have a hip replacement operation, which looked like it might have been around the time of CEII, so I had to wait on making any plans for that. But it looks like she will be having it done in about 2-3 weeks, so we are going to be able to make it there!!! Sans armor or 501st membership, but we will still be there. So anyway, I know this has been a dead thread, but there will be a lot more to come with this build very soon. Hope to meet a lot of you of out there. Anyone staying in the Holiday inn??

    Ciao

    Dan.
