Yeah, it sucks because I am looking for a job right now so I had to sell off some stuff, but I will get another soon enough!
-
I have actually already sold this helmet, but I figured I'd post photos anyway.
All details hand painted just like the originals!
-
I like it. My esb lid is a cap-w as well. One of my favs.
It's funny, I have to say I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I do now. it didn't really strike me until I painted the frown and reattached the brow trim. But the shape of the CAP W really lends itself well to the ESB look I think!

I def prefer a ANH bucket over a ESB but you did a really nice job on your ESB.
I love any kind of wear job and i think yours looks awesome with the chips.
Great job overall!!
Thanks everyone!
My ANH ATA helmet should be done next week. Just need to paint the tube stripes and install the lens. Maybe chin straps but haven't decided yet!
-
No black stripes on the ear. I am sure some didn't have them. Overall look was going for something like on this page

Finally finished this one and am very happy with how it came out! Wanted it to look like a beat up relic seen on Star Wars Helmets website. Now I am on to my ATA ANH helmet! Let me know what you guys think! The last 2 were taken in the shade with no flash.

So the question that remains is, were the newly made ones for ESB also used in ROTJ along with the ones specifically made for ROTJ?
-
My bad! It's nothing conclusive, but it is interesting. It was in the ROTJ section and that is why I missed it at first!

Their site is one I frequent, but I hadn't seen any explanation about what it is. Maybe I will look again.
-
I have seen it referenced in a couple places, but a new one on me is the whole ESB Mark II. Can someone clarify what differentiates a typical ESB and an ESB Mark II? Thanks!
-
Cool thanks for the tips (pun intended!) It always looked like metal to me!
-
Are the edges around the ends of Mic Tips silver or white? I cannot tell from photos.

Work on my CAP-W ESB helmet is going great. I just masked the areas I wanted the chipped effect and painted it with Krylon Gloss White. Worked out very well as we are having a few days of unseasonable coolness and low humidity. Paint looks very smooth! Anyhow, how long do I need to wait before I can apply the decals? Didn't know if I could do it next day or maybe wait a week for the paint to fully cure and then apply them when I paint the frown and ears.

Thanks Terrell. I guess I should've asked you to begin with. I couldn't remember which one went with the kit I got from you!
-
Thank you so much! I felt stupid for asking, but couldn't quickly find a pic that showed it in detail.

Hey guys, I have both a CAP-W and an ATA helmet kit I am working on and I had thrown the neck trim pieces in a box together and now I can't remember which one goes to which helmet! here is a pic. Anyone? Thanks in advance!

Do we really need to be alienating more people? This is supposed to be a hobby afterall. Suerly the more people we can get in the 501st the better. More people to do troops means we'll be getting more money for charity. Isn't that the most important part?
I'm not saying for a moment we shouldn't have standards, but how far do these 'base' standards need to go?
I think the way things are at the moment are the way they should be.
Also you might say that a pipe build is easy, but as easy as it seems to you may seem an impossible task to someone else.
QUOTED FOR TRUTH! It is why I do all this for FUN.

Hello from a fellow Ohioan! Where in Ohio are ya?
-
Thanks Mike! I really did want to fill them if they aren't supposed to be there! Looks better when it is done.
-
I have been looking at a lot of the photos on starwarshelmets.com and I can't see it on the originals. If it is there is is so slight. the bottom edge below the teeth looks very sharp. I may fill it in after all. Apoxie sculpt is really good stuff and I have never had it come loose.
-
It is that way on both my CAP-W and my ATA, so I am thinking it is something to do with the way the plastic forms? Is it actually on the each of the bucks or is it just when the plastic stretches?
-
Cool, thank you!
-
Here ya go. This is my ATA, but they are on my CAP-W too so I know it is part of the mold or vac pull.
-
I noticed on both my HIPS helmets to varying degrees, there are some small indentations below some of the teeth on the frown. I didn't post a pic since I figure most of you will know what I am talking about. Do you guys fill these in before painting? I am kind of on the fence and wanted to see what you think.
ATA ANH Stunt Helmet Showoff
in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance

@ TK 4702 - Yep I used masking fluid. Not my idea by a longshot! The talented people here and over at The Dented Helmet had threads talking about using masking fluid for their projects. I had never heard of this but did a little reading and it is cool stuff! It is basically a thin liquid latex that you paint on, let dry and then spray your top coat over it. When that is dry, you peel off the little chips and presto - instant weathering!
