Howdy guys. I'm so glad I can finally make this thread! I've been lurking here for years, and the Anovos deal was good enough for me to finally hop into a TK armor build.
(Apologies for the pictures being iffy. My camera on my phone is great!.. in bright settings. Sadly, my workspace is pretty dark, so many of these pictures will be grainy or blurry as this thread goes on)
I received my BBB on Saturday, 1/30.
I was too excited to take a nice picture of the armor before trimming, so I've got this messy thing.
Of course, I had to take a selfie.
Some more shots of the helmet, along with a Clone I started a few weeks ago.
I've spent a few hours yesterday and today trimming, so it is all pretty close to done in that department. I need to trim closer on the 2 ab details and remove the return edge on the forearms. I'll probably be doing that tonight, and will begin some basic assembly tomorrow. Not pictured is the thermal detonator, since I have already started on that.
Finally, a glamour shot of my TK boots I've had for a few months now.
I started trimming with the hand pieces, continued onto the arms, then legs, and finally the torso. I didn't have any major mishaps, and thankfully my only knife slips occurred on return edges and are too light to see unless you are really looking for them. All edges have been sanded smooth, save for the hand openings as they will be cut anyway.
List of changes I plan on making:
Helmet:
- I will be plastidipping the interior
- Touching up the frown
- Adding padding and eventually electronics
Armor:
- I have ordered flexible handguards and they should be in soon.
- I will be using snaps instead of velcro
Of course, more will be added as the build goes on and I see what else I should do. I will probably be using the provided belt. It seems a bit flimsy, but I'm not too worried about it at the moment. Additionally, I will be buying a blaster soon.
I think that about wraps it up for now. I plan on making several updates, and hopefully they will be pretty rapid as my schedule is clear for the near future. Please be as harsh in your critiques as you can be, as I want to do this build right.

I ordered on Black Friday and just got same notice. Not sure it really means it's shipping. May have just generated label or might just be for soft goods. Note that neither number in the notification correlates with any of my Anovos orders.

I ordered May 3rd and have still not received any email. I was expecting a wait but with later orders being shipped (or at least being notified of labels), I'm getting a bit antsy.
-
Has anyone who ordered between May 1-4 had theirs shipped? It seems that the cutoff was a bit earlier than that, and I can't check my own as Fedex doesn't accept my "new" (year old) address for the delivery manager.
-
Congrats to everyone getting their kits! Fedex Delivery Manager won't allow me to make an account using my address, so I'm in the dark here.
-
I'll be living vicariously through this thread until mine ships, so I can't wait for your updates!
-
Just got mine! 282 days of agony
Congrats! When does the build thread start?
-
I noticed a gap at the ears on the Anovos bucket. Is that a problem to fix?

That's expected for a TK helmet, and the Anovos gap is actually pretty small.
-
Oh man, this is going to make my wait even harder. Congrats to everyone getting them already!

According to the most recent update on the TK and other star wars related items:
"so the dates provided are ESTIMATES ONLY and provided in quarters (Q1 = January-March, Q2 = April-June, Q3 = July-September, Q4 = October-December)."
"*Original Trilogy Stormtrooper: Kits and completed helmets completed and going through customs at port. Initial deliveries of kits to begin January 2016, followed by completed helmets, helmet kits, and then completed ensembles. Note that sized soft-goods will ship separately after kits. Current estimated delivery: Q1 2016
*Original Trilogy Stormtrooper Helmet Accessory: Initial deliveries of completed helmets and then helmet kits to begin March 2016. Current estimated delivery: Q1 2016
*Shadow Stormtrooper Ensemble: Production under way. Plans for mesh helmet interior cancelled, but investigating alternate lining material options armor interiors. Standard packaging and product safety reviews required. Current estimated delivery: Q2 2016

Honestly this company is a train wreck. If you look at any Instagram picture they've posted, there is just a slur of negative comments, mainly pointed towards the TK pre-order
They are still within the Winter date given at pre-order and are beginning shipping next week. I really don't see how people can be upset with that. Their older products? Certainly, they have been delayed multiple times, but the TK is right on schedule. I'm guessing people aren't used to hobbies like this or similar products, as other SW Licensees like Sideshow and eFX take even longer to produce anything.

Not necessarily, even at the most recent price of $650 it is still cheaper than going with some of the cheapest options here on whitearmor when you factor in the soft parts IF tHe soft parts are up to spec, it's certainly not the steal that those of us who hopped on the tier one got, but it's still potentially a good deal. As with everything preordered that was a chance we took. I am of the opinion that very little will need to be changed in order to pass crls (i think even the much bemoaned belt and holster will be fine after rogue 1). So it comes down to taste, do you like the look of anovos vs some of the other armors. It's priced very competitively compared to the budget kits.
Not to mention the helmet is pre-assembled, something most armor makers don't do.

Nice build, and I love the mannequin. I plan on doing the same once I finish my armor.

Oh man, these multi-posts are taking up whole pages.
I hope all tier 1 ships at once, I ordered near the end of the initial price point.
-
Oh man, this is going to be the slowest week+ ever.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
Welcome, Patrick! Congrats on your upcoming Big Brown Box day, and glad to hear that you have been doing your research and getting things ready for your build! Are you going to start a build thread?
I plan on it, although I usually get a bit antsy and skip taking pictures when working on projects. I'll try not to do that this time, since the more pictures I take, the more people can critique and help me improve.
Welcome guys. The Star Garrison boards is reserved for full members. Once you're approved and assigned your TKID #s you will be granted access. In the mean time if you have Facebook you can check out Star Garrison's FB recruit page https://www.facebook.com/groups/296336407050926/
Feel free to PM me with any questions you have regarding Star.
Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks for informing us! I've joined the facebook group now.

Hi guys. New member here from College Station, Texas. (Actually, that's a bit of a lie. I made my account in 2010 and have been lurking occasionally since!) Since I've been a member here for a while, I've basically been researching for years without actually doing anything. Hopefully it helps on my build!
I've been interested in Star Wars props for a long time now, and I have always been building little things here and there. I decided it was finally time to build a TK with the Anovos kit preorder back in April, which I'm sure has resulted in plenty of other new members joining. I've already got my TK boots and funds set aside for an E11, along with a plethora of tools from other projects, so I'm really just waiting for the kit to arrive to decide on what else I need.
Hopefully I get to start soon!
Additionally, I signed up for the Star Garrison forums a while back, but I still don't think I've been authorized. Anyone in the garrison know how often new forum members are authorized?

I did some more work today, although not as much as I had hoped. It seems the next few days I'll be busy with a programming assignment, so I won't be expecting much progress. Additionally, I'll be trying to take a bunch of pictures from this point forward. I kind of skipped that in my rough trimming, as it seemed simple enough, but I don't want to miss anything or mess up a detail along the way. Anyway, here is what I've done.
I decided to work on the TD, as it seemed really easy. I used super glue instead of e6000 for this as I was fairly certain I wouldn't need to reposition it. (The endcaps are simply held on. They are pretty snug, so I'm not expecting to glue them).
Materials:
Marking the center of the tube for the plate:
Guide holes drilled (A bit too wide, but the screws held. I also superglued the clips to the tube, just to ensure they hold.)
Finished Product:
I also removed the two upper screws on the belt. It's not pretty, but hopefully I can find a way to close the holes in a convincing manner.
Removed the return edges on the forearms-
Before-
After trimming, but before sanding-
And finally, after sanding. I also removed the film, as it was getting annoying.
Repeated 4 times for all forearm parts, and they feel much better now. That's the extent of my progress right now, so hopefully another update will be coming soon.
