  1. hey guys, well my armor is finally completed flat lenses and all, but im having a problem with my biceps sliding down and knocking into my forearms and then i cant bend my arms. any suggestions?

    thanks

You probably want a strap of some kind to run from either the ribbing between your chest and back plate, or from your shoulder bell.

The other alternative is some kind of foam inside the bicep piece to make it snug. But I think the best bet is to still have a strap holding it.

I used a single strap from the top most part of my suspenders down to my bell (where a snap holds the shoulder bell in position), and then it continues down into my bicep piece, and attaches there (again with an industrial snap).

Other people might have better suggestions though. Can't wait to read 'em.

  2. TE2 is .093 HIPS, AP is .080 ABS.

I thought with guage the smaller the number, the thicker the material?

That said, does anyone have a chart of plastic guage to thickness? I found one once, but didn't book mark it :( I know aluminum versus stainless uses a different chart, so I assume there is one specific to plastic?

  3. Current AP shoulders don't have 'swoops' on them, and TE/TE2 does?

I think I have that part right.

If I've ever seen, live and in person a suit of TE/TE2, I'm not aware of it. Keep in mind, I'm fairly new to all of this, and when trooping, I'm usually more worried about the troop then checking out other peoples armor.

But I was listening to a discussion before a parade the other weekend, and some troopers were saying that TE/TE2 armor is thinner than AP, and doesn't seem to hold up to hard trooping as well.

If someone could please confirm, deny, or just go HUGH? I'd appreciate it!

  4. We all appreciate the differences in costumes and I appreciate a well done Sandtrooper. As for having it easy, I don't know if that so much true when it comes to your statement. True, the average person/"fan" doesn't know the difference, but you made your decision to do the costume you wanted to do. Sure, gunners are cool, but how many casual fans will recognize them, much less a 4-LOM, Dengar, Nihilius, Mara Jade, etc.? We all know what it is because we live, breath, eat, sleep, and sh*t Star Wars.

Lol, I think you basically said what I was saying. I've seen 'fans' that thought Dengar was a sandperson. I've seen 'fans' that thought IG's were Darth Vader. And I've seen fans, that wondered why a sandy wasn't all shiny and white. Actual quote "I've seen all 3 of the first movies, mupliple times, and I don't remember a single stormtrooper that ever had any dirt on them." I just kind of shook my head, and died a little inside.

But everyone knows what a TK is. There is no confusion. Ok, well there is the ones that comment on how they 'really loved Star Trek,' but let's not talk of them. They make me sad.

I'm happy to be a sandy. Wouldn't trade it for the world. But yeah, I like TK too :)

  5. Even better - another sandie who is discovering the joys of being clean. ;-)

Hey, hey! Keep it civil here! A well done TK is a beauty to behold. I say it, and I mean it. But a well done sandy is also something to truly marvel at (I hope to actually have a well done sandy one day, but till then, I'm still trooping with what I?ve built!).

Is there a rule that I can't have both?

Tk's have it easy; some people/fans don't even get the whole sandy thing at all. They tend to be the same people that think Dengar is a sandperson, and an Imperial Gunner is a badly done Darth Vader, but still... (and yes, I've heard both this month, multiple times).

Let's just keep in mind that we are on the same side. We are all good guys!

  6. That's some seriously beautiful craftsmanship! To me that would qualify as a quality fan-made blaster. :)

For the belt, here is a post from TE on another board:

I wonder what the opinion is on the bone white elastic belts (looks like canvas from 3 feet out) that some armor markers include with their kits?

I'm usually a sticker for being as close to dead on as possible, but if you sinch a canvas belt up tight, so that it actually holds the ab to the butt plate, wouldn't that make some things hard, like leaning over?

  7. So, who picked up their DVD's today? I purchased a set at Target and I found a the tin set at Best Buy. Now, to find time to play the new Lego Star Wars game.

    :D

More money gone... yeah I bought a tin from Best Buy yesterday....

  8. Hey guys, been meaning to stop by here for a while. I'm just some guy from Tallahassee, Florida, with way too much time on his hands!

I've been a Star Wars fan forever and ever, but it's only in the last few months that I've managed to come face to face with actual trooping in my area. All I can say is, it's way too cool!

I think the idea of a detachment focused on high quality TKs is wonderful! Can't way to see some of the results! (Or heck, even read the proposals).

I've been thinking about getting a set for TK, and well, with other projects going on (read that as huge money sinks, sucking away my hard earned cash, but making me happy at the same time), it probably will not be any time soon, but I'm fairly sure it will happen at some point!

Just wanted to join up here, to read, be inspired, and maybe post a dumb question now and then. But mainly to say 'Knock 'em dead!'
