I am within the south florida region, and will seek to join the Everglades Squad!

 

I had the wonderful opportunity to acquire an ATA works TK stunt kit, and have been chipping away at it every weekend since

 

Quick question regarding the return edges for the chest and back plate: the phenomenal centurion build thread by justjoseph 63 suggests very little return edges for the chest "arm opening" area, as well as the back plate arm opening area. What are your thoughts, gents?

 

I've currently left a very healthy 2cm return edge on the chest plate arm opening, and have yet to begin trimming the back plate (waiting to confirm the return edge size before I tackle it ;) )

ATA armor is nice and thick and very sturdy, I've owned two, one converted to a Sandtrooper after about 8 years of trooping, very little issues or cracking. A little tougher to trim, I tend to use rotary tools.

 

I did an ATA commission build, a few images in there may be of help

As you can see, we are here to assist you on your journey to becoming a 501st approved TK.

 

Ask plenty of questions and advice will come.

 

Definitely don't need that much return edge on the arm openings of the chest plate. I have around 6mm at most on mine.

Ss to the bottom return on the backplate and the chest plate, you may want to keep a little more if you plan to strap it like the originals with nuts and bolts and piano wire brackets for the elastic straps.

Basically, the return edge gives the appearance of thicker armour pieces, but in some cases all return edge should be removed like the wrist end of the forearms.

This is of course an accuracy trait of the originals and forms part of the requirement on the higher levels of approval you can obtain.

Roger that @Sly11! After reviewing @justjoseph63 's absolutely incredible "return edges 101", I've concluded that there is no true "screen accurate" return edge, simply due to the variety that we see amongst the troopers in the original films :)

 

Would it be appropriate to reach out to my local GML to get their thoughts?

Have you met any or many locals in the Everglades Squad? From my understanding they're very active and should be super helpful if you want some in person guidance in addition to the forums. I just met a few of them last time in Disney and at Celebration. I'm sure they'd love to help
