Personally I feel I should do another half centimeter and then round out the edges (you can see somewhat where I have smudged pencil is where I was thinking.

for the COD section  this could be the first try.

Agreed, I'd go for the smudge, mine just covers the front with hardly any wrap under, you really want some room there for when you are messing and moving around, nothing worse than getting an armor bite down that neck of the woods
Yeah I trimmed to the 4.5cm mark and felt it and it was still not the best so I may trim it back just a little bit more and that should solidify it's position.

Though comparing to the other photos this might work. Seems there’s no set distance just so long as it curves back enough. I will see how things are again and if need be trim another .5 cm off.

I just needed to get this amount done so I could better see how things fit with my thighs after the inner cover strips have dried up.

Exactly right, see how it feels you can always trim a little more

Update on my thighs now that the glue has cured in the inner front strip i resized and cut the back seam for the rear cover strips.

I was able to bring the area close to the knee in a little more and the upper portion out to the edge to make a little more triangle shape. Admittedly this is as triangular as I’ll get because my thighs are obnoxiously barrel shape. But I think it fits and looks much better. You can especially see the difference near the knees, it’s pretty uniform with my leg shape and less kingdom hearts shorts.

I will document my process more in the thigh section.

I will update the forearm thread with process, but I’ve finished the forearm cover strips and they are ready to go for strapping.

And yeah, now you can see the fun I get to deal with when getting the shin’s sized up. my calves are just not the easiest to make armor around. Though these have enough space to work with thankfully.

I just got in some full rubber gloves for centurion as my kit came with nomex gloves. Personally I love the Nomex, and can see why members have two sets. One for centurion, the other for trooping in almost most conditions.

Wearing inner cloth gloves make the rubber gloves nicer to wear. I go through a few pairs of inners at a troops, soaks up the sweat so it's nice to swap with a clean pair between breaks

I’m fairly sure I know the answer but just to check, should I be removing the return edge and angled extension bit from the posterior armor?

I’m pretty sure removing the bit that stabs out between the legs will be necessary, it’s uncomfortable as is.

Bottom return edge remove, also many remove that tab, you don't want an armor bite down there, that's for sure

POSTERIOR ARMOR

I trimmed all the bottom return edge and the extra length of the bottom off the posterior in preparation for adding the snaps and strapping. (Sorry for the garbage in the background)

Only things to do from here are the lower snaps and the internal snaps for rigging. I need a few tools for that and then will update on that process.

I marked holes from the underside edge at 15mm and 35mm using a 5/32 drill bit I drilled holes for the snaps.

Thankfully that mark in the counter was not a blade cut

I then used a 3/8 inch drill bit from the outside and BY HAND countersunk the opening for the hole slowly.

At this point I’m waiting for the snaps to arrive.

Line 24 snaps arrived, so I set the posterior male snaps in place.

SHINS

Around the same time I started work on the thighs I started trimming the shins.

I knew I’d need to do the trimming of return edges and front before I could accurately size them to my shins/calves so I started there.

Bottom return edge removed
U6hiTDa.jpg

Top return edge marked
1VDcUf4.jpg

More detail on the other shin on the processes

Trimming the top (this was a PIA)
2nKijkP.jpg

I would have preferred trimming from the inside out, but some angles were hard to get my exacto in place
1gKhZkf.jpg

I had to make some additional length adjustment trimming from the bottom up so it wasn’t so large on me.

EJSyfl4.jpg

Then I marked the 10mm on each side from the general return edge of the front on each piece

EfHGKSl.jpg
Qq3Obpv.jpg

Drew my straight line to cut
3hYuoFN.jpg
gec5kXj.jpg
A6UUSls.jpg

Scored and snapped, then taped to verify.
iTFd5hj.jpg

I forgot to document the next steps of the inner cover strip glue and proceed on to the outer strip on the front, but they are similar to all other methods used. Basically an inner strip of 20mm glued for 24 hours. Then a sized, beveled, and nicey nice outer strip on the front glued for 24 hours at least (I will give at least 48 before finding the back trim lines and the sniper plate)

Here they are in their current state.
OjGcV9T.jpg

Alright, after probably 72 hours of waiting on the curing I went ahead and tackled the rear cuts for the shins.

I wore my boots to make sure there was space for them as well as some jogger pants, this was personally a choice so that I could size them just large enough to handle some pants for colder troops here in Utah. I know that they’ll work fine with the under suit and with something only marginally thicker.

I first marked where the outer flap lined up with the inner. This way I could tape and find center to make my cut line.

Once I made that cut I lined things up again and marked the inner cut line

3734d31253fa172a13a5de9e5424de06.jpg

46abfb958ca458a904bfb98bdcc6e357.jpg

Then score and snap.

I knew how to line up the outer cut edge with a line I drew previously on the inner side of the outside flap.

41bbf6e8dbe633d45989556d9eb9ee34.jpg

Initial fitting after that shows that I had some space near the ankle I could bring in a bit
acb196f7e6808177cbfbecd317ee0f54.jpg
a6d346d71fc0d22e79bef3edbb5b439b.jpg

I angled in the bottom keeping the top the same and marked what I needed to remove

After removing the extra length from the bottom I now had straight lines down back I can build my cover strip and closure system around later while also having them fit appropriately.

Sniper knee on left shin
I sliced some of the upper area along the sides so it didn’t stick up oddly (as noted in a comment in my build thread) and attached e6000 to the spaces under each of the clamps. Now we wait.

While the knee plate sets I trimmed the 25mm rear cover strip for the right shin and got it clamped down.

934581b8e3efe55e3fae97d22f6f93e8.jpg

Now with both cover strips installed here’s the shins

6y1ZDFB.jpg

I took some 3/4 inch wide white elastic and cut about 4-5 inch lengths which I then folded over at the half inch mark. I sewed down the ends to prevent fraying and the folded over parts to work on the hook enclosure method.

V97Ou73.jpg

I then started hand sewing the hooks onto the elastic in the doubled up areas.

l00vxyR.jpg

Once this is done I will glue them into place on the shins one .5 inches from the top return edge, one .5 inches from the bottom and one right in the middle.

I then used e6000 to glue the straps in place.

I measured where to glue as 3.5cm from the top edge and bottom edge and then 17cm from the top (for the center)

xYO99RI.jpg

4k8pKIO.jpg

5MJCYc7.jpg

Once dried I will drill the holes for the hooks to connect to.

Alright, finished up the shins. I drilled the holes for the hooks to connect to with a 9/64 drill bit.

I then cut the mobility cuts in the shins. I had some armor bite going on when testing them so I figured on cutting that.

When it comes to the rear make sure you size with boots, socks and pants on, can make a huge difference, also think about the closure, if you use velcro that will make them a bit tighter ;)

For sure, yeah. That’s the biggest reason I haven’t trimmed any of the rear because I knew that would be the uphill battle

For the sniper knee plate,

Do I need to trim anything such as return edges or make the ends vertical? Or would I be good if I attached it as is.

I’ve since finished the shins with the rear cover strips. I sized the length of the rear of the strips from under the extruded upper portion and then cut the 25mm width of strips.

Then attached with half on the external opening side of each.

c27fe1ca36cf94bb399fec7058b41a70.jpg

All that’s left to do at this point is the hook strapping on the inside to hold them closed.

My plan here is to reinforce the interior side with a piece of abs plastic and then drill the holes and glue the 3/4 inch wide elastic with the sewn on hook to close them. I will detail that once I get the materials and can use a sewing machine for the straps.

I will also most likely add a snap on the inner front part and the boots so I can have them snap and hold the shins more straight forward as I already know they tend to drift.

They look good as it , I would recommend , when dry, trim the borders following the ridge.

Updated progress on the shins in the section for them.

I also made some abs slurry to fill in the gaps for the thighs.

and I’ve glued my latex hand guards from @justjoseph63 I’m sure I’m only one of many to praise his work.

GLOVES

Figured I should have a section for gloves of all varieties I’m going to use.

For my centurion aim gloves I’ve got some black rubber gloves off Amazon.

I got some flexible hand guards from Justjoseph and used e6000 to glue those to the gloves. I placed a heavy box on top of them for 24 hours so they’d have time to cure with pressure to keep them flat and in place.

Just ordered all the various snaps and items needed to finish the rigging of the armor. Once those arrive I will start breaking out more of the work.

I also updated the thigh and shin sections detailing cover strips for thighs and sniper knee for left shin.
