Tim’s ANH (Hero) ‘Build’ Thread

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I’m not exactly building my armour (I’ve commissioned RS to build it for me) but thought I’d start my own thread to mark the journey.

Now, before I ordered the full armour, I had already paid for the helmet which arrived today. Ever since I was a kid I’ve wanted one and great work by RS on the care and attention they’ve given to this, so I’m absolutely thrilled with the perfection (and imperfection) the helmet has.

I am looking to join the 501st and aiming for centurion level (aim high right). The armour will take a while longer as I ordered separately but any initial thoughts are welcome on the helmet.

Just wanted to check if it’s normal for the rubber seal to do this at the base of the helmet. Didn’t notice it when I got it yesterday and wondered if it’s a fault?b81605e5b2f2e38b0b6a650e40b0e2f7.jpg

Yes I have that on one of my helmets, just depends on the rubber, the shape of the lip and also how tight the rubber is (length, having too much pressure)

Hey there Tricky,

Yes, that’s normal for the rubber S-trim. This is also RS and it’s the same. :-)

I'm going for centurian too, albeit with an esb stunt build. I had to paint the inside of my hovi tips white, and also the outer rim (but in a weathered way). See attached pics (my lid, and screen used). Can someone with more knowledge say if its also required for an anh hero helmet?e604cddff92f794a71895187edf01bc5.jpgba27741f6c19c4dd817eb13a699b47d3.jpg

Most just had the black appearance on the rim, but during filming some black was rubbed of as you seen in different scenes. The inside of the hovi's should be black with a white nipple.

Black inner walls clearly evident below.

From Joseph our DL

I have no issue if the interior sides are not painted white, but the rear "nipple" should be white, as should the rim (at least a little).  I also see no problem with the screen being painted black.

It's not a deal breaker regardless. Quite common though the screen helmets didn't have as much of an issue. Maybe they were using a type of seal that's no longer available.

Here's a reference photo

So the day has finally arrived and I’m picking up my stormtrooper armour from RS tomorrow. Can’t wait to try it on for the first time.

couple of questions:

  1. Can anyone direct me to somewhere that lists the photos I need to take for 501st approval?
  2. Where do I find an armourer to feedback on my suit and suggest adjustments?

Thanks all. Looking forward to sharing with you all.

Standard images required are

Front, Side, Back, Side, Action and Helmet Off, but others may also be requested, depends on your GML (garrison membership liaison)

Take photos with a blank background, contrasting to what you are wearing.

You can post your images for feedback in the pre approval area

https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/193-request-tk-pre-approval/

I believe UKG has an armorer program, check out on their forum, they also have a slightly different way of doing the approval process so you will need to check those details too

Hi all,

So I picked up my armour from RS today and what absolute treat. Very lucky to live on the doorstep of their unit and be able to see where the magic happens.

Paul fitted me in the suit and took my pre-approval photos. Feel free to view and feedback on my full pre-approval thread here:

When I got home, I then had a go at putting it on myself and I have a new respect for all you who do this regularly. I’d say my wife had to help with 95% but guess I’ll usually get help when trooping. That being said, I definitely need some practice at being more capable of putting most of the suit on myself.

I have a couple of observations at this stage on the range of movement.

  1. I can’t really reach to put my blaster in its holster.
  2. I can’t sit down

I’m very aware of the suit at the moment so I maybe restricting myself but I’m assuming the above is normal?

Thanks all, look forward to seeing your comments.

Left some feedback on your pre approval thread, you may need to supply a few more high resolution images as a few details cant be made out.

Most of us can't sit, or we awkwardly try, I find sitting on a corner of a table or chair isn't too bad.

Arm movement is restricted and depends on what gaps your arms have, I can just put my blaster in with one hand.

Hi everyone,

I think I need to made adjustments to the elastics between my biceps and forearm so they done slide down so much.

Can anyone suggest the best way to do this keeping in mind they’re already glued down.

Thanks

Really the only way would be to remove one end, shorten and then re-glue. Only other option would be to cut the elastic and sew back together.

Looks like it is only your right side which has some gap, the left looks fine although you could bring the biceps up which would give you a little more room at the wrists as your left forearm is hitting the handplate.

Yes, the right arm is definitely where the adjustment is needed. What’s the best way to remove? Is it a simple case of pulling it off?

I do need to add straps from the shoulders to the biceps (currently they’re separate pieces). Can you recommend where to get the right black elastic?

I'm not sure what glue RS uses but if you can't gently pull it off you could trim the elastic just inside the forearm and bicep then glue another piece of elastic on the tops of what is already there.

Most haberdashery shops will have elastic, or you could venture onto eBay

Hi all,
So I’ve been given some recommendations on what adjustments I should make. Some of these have been suggested by an armourer on the UK Garrison forum. Below is all the advice I have had so far.

1. Find thinner foam for the helmet to reduce the height (too much neck seal showing)
2. Holster requires 2 additional rivets to make ‘Hero’ classification.
3. Shorten strapping between right bicep and forearm
4. Add elastic strapping between shoulder bells and biceps for each arm.

RS have kindly offered to make the adjustments for me so I thought I’d share my photos again in case there are any other recommendations or opinions before they do this.

Thanks all.

No real surprises there.

Just a couple of really nitpicky items

Looks like your ab / belt are on an angle, lower on your left side, may be able to straighten with adjusting strapping

7fc0bce1b4f8b9fe3c04db5d4e4e21ee.jpg

Remove any loose thread from belt, you can see some between your ab and kidney

2c58749b371c8c2c4b1057852f55f1e7.jpg

Belt could come down at the back it's quite high

 m3Wtd5G.jpg?1    HzlkkCC.jpg?1   sREHj84.jpg?1

TD could come down a little, you can see the clamps are not quite hitting the top of the belt

65e64e71bd585c9d50d98793c5b732f3.jpg

The ab/kidney plates should not overlap

2c58749b371c8c2c4b1057852f55f1e7.jpg

You could also try to get your right back shoulder strap to sit down against the back plate.

65e64e71bd585c9d50d98793c5b732f3.jpg

As I say these are really nitpicky details but something to watch out for for higher levels ;)

Good luck with approval

I'm pretty skinny so I just placed some foam behind the ab which holds it out a little more and the ab/kidney meets nicely on the sides, just don't over tighten your belt.
