Got some great feedback in my pre-approval thread, hopefully nothing that will hold me back from EIB! I'll plan on taking new photos for Centurion for sure to fix some of the minor adjustments needed. Thanks for looking! :D

Here comes Justin trying to give Glen a run for his money with the number of EI awards! Haha. Congrats on your approval!

Naw, Q is a legend, but that gold frame on his 5+ EIB badge is pretty spiffy... I got a few cards left up my sleeve too... ;) Thank you though!!!

Hi Justin !!!   what a surprise!!,...... naaa not a surprise :laugh1:. Glad to see another great build from you mate.

One of us will be with you shortly  :salute:

Pretty much same build over and over but new helmets, and after L3 this is the last time before this suit gets retired, I swear haha

Same photos from my Pre-approval thread - hopefully none are deal breakers and I'll suit up one more time to correct anything for Centurion :)

I appreciate you guys! Hopefully my Hero is fine. All fine here. Thank you. How are you, DOs? ;)

Looking sharp as always, Justin!  One tiny thing (5 minutes work) and we can get the ball rolling and get you approved. brother.

Although the paint on most of the teeth is spot-on, we are asking that you remove a bit on the two shown below.  Should be easy-peasy with your talent!  :salute:

Hi Justin, and thank you for yet ANOTHER awesome looking application for EI!

CRL and EIB Application Requirements

All required photos are now in and, after review, we are pleased to welcome you to Expert Infantry! On behalf of the DO team and myself, congratulations:salute:

Other-Armor Fit/Assembly

In this area we review observations made by your fellow troopers and the DO team. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions.

Always a pleasure seeing your latest accomplishment, brother, and this is no exception!  Just a few items here to mention, no biggie, so let's get started!

The paint on your vocoder looks to have a flat finish as seen on ROTJ buckets.  As seen in the Hero reference image below, it definitely has a sheen to it, as also seen on the Stunt references shown.  We feel a coat of semi-gloss (or even satin) would really transform the look of it, and it's a SUPER easy fix!

I know you mentioned this armor is ready for "retirement", but one of these days I am going to convince you to trim down those thigh tops just a bit..:laugh1:

qxh53wN.jpg DewAc9j.jpg

Adjusting the strapping should stop the posterior plate from over-riding the kidney.  In your rear shot, the alignment is spot on (above photo-right side) but for some reason on the side view it overlaps.

Just a minor dressing issue here... your right cover strip should match that perfect one on your left.

Centurion Requirements

In this section we prepare you for Centurion. More photos may be requested in the future that allow us to make better decisions on possible adjustments. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here.

Because Centurion photos show much more detail than EIB, items to pertaining to Centurion might be seen there and not here. We try to point out all that we can from what is seen, but the final accuracy is the responsibility of the trooper.

This one may be a bit of a challenge, but I have complete confidence that you can nail it.  Although not specifically mentioned in the CRL (yet) *** the "nipples" inside your Hovi tips are the correct white, but for Hero the rest of the interior needs to be black.  While you have the paint out, we also suggest hitting the screen as well. ;)

*** Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions.

                                                                                                                                        Reference images

m7zkhuU.jpg             PGWoxjr.jpg?1  lV1PDnU.jpg?1  0PSjURZ.jpg?1

You removed the paint from the bottom of the teeth ask requested (THANKS) but we are asking that you take it just a tiny bit farther on the center tooth.  A small item I know, but it's those tiny details that make for a great looking trooper!

mIR9zLy.jpg            e4KwfQ1.jpg?1  iIO0A2B.jpg?1

As you know, the outside edges of the drop boxes needs to align with the outside edge of the ABS belt.  Another easy fix with a few dabs of E-6000 behind the straps!

                                                                                                        Reference images

ZR4ZrhG.jpg?1  0sMVEoy.jpg                 wAvMlBy.jpg?1    B1Sgmmd.jpg

As stated in the CRL, the grips can not have any weathering.  The original grips were made of Bakelite (a type of plastic) so no "metal" should be seen.  A quick coat of black spray-paint should do the trick.  I would suggest a semi-gloss finish.

                                                                                                          Reference images

I3uTXE9.jpg   p77P4Gr.jpg  Bk3bOUR.jpg   dthGmuz.jpg

And that's it, my friend.  Just a few more steps and we can add that FOURTH Centurion award to your list of accomplishments!!

Way to go Justin! L3 by the weekend? ;-)

I may try to at least get my photos in! Hoping to do my ESB at the same time so I only have to suit up once. We'll see how it goes. Got a couple little helmet and strapping mods to do between now and then.

Thanks Joseph! So, summarizing my work list as I like to do...

Dressing Issues to watch for:
1. Had my thighs hiked up a bit too high or my ab slipped, but mind the gap between ab/posterior and thigh tops

2. Posterior plate was sticking out... I knew this one was coming again and will keep watching for it

3. Shin rear cover strip was coming undone a tiny bit

4. Ensure drop boxes are aligned

Modifications to make:

1. Helmet - Repaint vocoder with semi-gloss

2. Helmet - Repaint interior of mic tip and screen(?!) black - why y'all lookin so close at my "small projections located on the center of the interior used to disperse and dispense fluids in controlled amounts over a particular area?" ;P

3. Helmet - Remove a little more paint from the center tooth

4. Blaster - Remove silver weathering from grip

I can think I can knock this stuff out shortly, so be on the lookout! I appreciate you guys! :D

I'm going to kind of echo my Garrison mate, friend, and TK-Twin @equuspolo's concern over on his ESB Centurion thread (but also as a show of deference) here and say...

I did not know that the mic tips for ANH-Hero helmets were supposed to have a black interior, and definitely never heard black mesh. As he said, I strive to build to the Centurion standard outlined in the CRL... which is what I believe the DO's should hold us to. Suggestions for improvement are one thing, but the line between suggestion and requirement can get a little blurry, and if something is required for Centurion, I'm of the opinion that it should be stated clearly in the CRL (in red). I know there isn't always a 100% consistent standard across suits in the movies, so the CRL AND the DOs suggestions shoulddd reflect as such.

That being said, I absolutely welcome this as an opportunity to learn and appreciate the DO's scrutiny and advice SO MUCH. I want to look my best and appreciate y'all helping me get there. But I would absolutely prefer to know ahead of time and build to that standard instead of having to correct. And yes, I often review previous approved Centurion threads to know what to look for... but the "extra" standards aren't always consistently applied, especially over time and as DO's change. I know it's easier said than done, but I would recommend adding additional info to the CRL, as it currently reads for EIB:

"Correct Aerators/Hovi-MIX tips are present. Screens used shall be of a wide type mesh, with the rim of the mic and the inside white or painted white."

And at present, nothing pertaining to the mic tips is stated for Centurion.

This is just an example specific to my situation, but in general... if it's being called out for Centurion, it should be in the CRL is my point. I'm not trying to make it harder... but not trying to make it easier either.

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID... Hey look, I got a new set of mic tips from Tony and repainted them appropriately. ;)

Satin black exterior, interior, and mesh...

G0LCbTG.jpg

And just look at my tiny white small projections located on the center of the interior used to disperse and dispense fluids in controlled amounts over a particular area!

B9X4tA0.jpg

I'll reassemble once dry and repaint the vocoder as well (ran out of proper semi-gloss paint)... I'm happy to rise to the occasion, but for the record, it could be more clear from the get-go! :)

The addition of the rims of hovi tips being white was a relatively recent addition to both Stunt and Hero CRL's, it was shortly after this some more research showed that the Hero mic tips where actually black inside (I think it came up in a higher level application, but I may be wrong), it is certainly something that should be added to the CRL

ANH_HD_Hero01.jpgfr_engHer002a.jpg

Should we add a white tape option too ;)

Both the CRL model helmet and some of the ones you linked also show the mesh as appearing silver... so perhaps it should be an option, and clearly stated as such? I already painted mine, but dang :P As long as my objection has been noted!

White tape is a different story and you know it! hahahaha (and yes, I absolutely saw it being applied on set as well lol)

It could very well just be a reflection on the paint, all the Hero references I have all show black mesh but I'm still looking ;)

I think Once it is agreed upon that there may be options, such as silver or black mesh, or white edges and or white edges and interiors, not only should it be stated, but reflected in the images.  Again, I love the CRL's and the job the DO's do, without a question.  FISD is awesome.  The issue doesn't exist here, it exists outside of the FISD realm.

I have had many contact me and ask me about Hovi tips or Belt placement and holster placement, and what happens is that they use a reference picture from the CRL that doesn't necessarily follow the example set in the references below, so some are doing builds that compromise their armor and have to buy new parts because they thought the photo was accurate or their GML told them one thing based on the image.

For me the differences, the subtle differences are awesome, in tube stripes, or hovi tips slight differences or say someone choosing between building a hero vs a stunt stormtrooper.  So those graces in different choices or slight different builds are awesome.  But I agree that we need to strive for an ideal and a standard.  Just needs to be more clear and fully represented.

There will always be "one offs" like Mr. No stripes or a Hero bucket with silver mesh, but we generally go with what was seen in the majority of what was seen onscreen.. the "ideal" trooper.  Yep, the CRLs need to be updated to reflect this.

I get passionate about this stuff and came in a little hot on the last post, but I do appreciate everyone here. Glad to hear that we all agree the CRL could use an update. Let's make it happen :)

Mic tips replaced with some from @ukswrath that I painted up per your request - satin black exterior, interior, and mesh, with white nip-... accents.

cE9NWCH.jpg

Repainted the vocoder with Model Masters semi-gloss black, and chipped a bit more off that middle tooth.

tq6HbMC.jpg

Didn't want to paint it since it's rubber, but I did use some sandpaper to knock as much of the silver off my blaster grip as possible. It came that way. *shrug*

See you guys over in the Centurion sub this weekend :P
