Greetings from Panama City, FL

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I've been following the forums off and on for some time now with hopes to eventually start my own build. I've wanted to have my own TK armor and join the 501st since I was in my 20s. I'm 44 now. My son started college last year and we began discussing building armor and joining 501st as a way to share a hobby, stay close, and make even more friends and lasting memories together. Well, that being said, we just put in our order for our kits and are about to start this exciting journey.

I look forward to meeting you all and learning from the seasoned vets.

Welcome Shawn! That's awesome that you and your son will be building together. Which armor did you guys choose?

Thanks Shane! We ordered the AM 4.5 ANH Stunt TK kits from Dave at Dave's Darkside Depot. I'm 6'3" and around 205lbs and my son is 6' and around 150lbs. From what I have read, these kits work well for larger/taller troopers and can be cut down for most anyone.

Hi Shawn and welcome to FISD.

Very cool that you will be building together with your sun, you guys are going to have a blast.

Yes AM kit's are quite suitable for larger sized troopers, we have a member in my garrison who is 6'2 and a solid guy and he looks very intimidating in his AM TK armour.

Enjoy the journey.

Welcome to the FISD! Feel free to navigate the tutorials and other resources in the forum.

Thanks Leonardo! I have been scouring over the boards incessantly in anticipation of our kits’ arrival. There are so many great resources here and I appreciate all the hard work that has gone into teaching us new guys the way.

Welcome to the FISD, Shane (and son)!  AM is a fantastic set of armor no doubt, and Dave's customer service is second to none.  My AM has held up for years without any cracking, splits or yellowing and I couldn't be happier with it.

One thing I would highly suggest is to start your own build thread(s) in this section.  This way, you can (and are encouraged to) ask all the questions you want to as well as post lots of photos of your progress.  Posting photos is especially important when you run across an issue, and we are here to help every step of the way!

You are located in Parjai Squad territory in the Florida Garrison, so if you haven't done so already I would join up there and introduce yourself.

While you "hurry up and wait", there are a few tutorial links under my name below that may help, especially the one for the supplies you will need.

Best of luck to the both of you on your white armor journey!!

Thanks Joseph! I will be creating a thread shortly as I begin to gather some things for the build preemptively. I've been checking out a few of the existing build threads as well as the Centurion requirements. I really like to go for gold when I do things. I just hope my skill level will live up to my expectation of what I perceive it to be...lol. I'm very meticulous, which I hope will aid me to some degree in this process. I am hoping to have these completed by Halloween so my son and I can escort my 7y.o. Princess Leia around and gather the Imperial Candy Tax. This is my goal, but I'm more concerned about the finished product and the process than I am the timeframe.

p.s. It was nice to see a set of your flexible hand guards included in our kits!

Glad to hear that you are not rushing your build, which often leads to mistakes...My old adage here is "consider it a marathon, and not a sprint".  GREAT to know that you are aiming for Centurion :jc_doublethumbup:, which is where your patience and attention to detail will come into play.  Since AM includes all the correct hardware and such, you are way ahead of the game, so now it's just a matter of asking lots of questions when you need to (don't forget the photos) and allowing us to steer you in the right direction.

Once you get started, I will be following your build thread and chiming in when asked.... BUT, that comes at a price.  When you collect the Imperial candy tax in October some fun-size Butterfingers would be nice :laugh1:.  Just kidding, but if you need specific help I am always available via PM.

Greetings Shawn! I'm actually in the middle of my own build, and had been wanting to do the same thing you mentioned for Halloween this year (I mentioned it in my into post and on my bio). Except instead of a 7-year-old, my daughter was 7 months old when I started. She is now 15 months old as of this week, so obviously I'm taking my time, and I still have a long ways to go.

As far as resources, there are so many excellent posts on FISD, but they can sometimes get lost in the sea of information. To help me with my build, I created an All-In-One resource thread to use as a reference, and I've linked it below. Hopefully it can help you and your son on your journey to the 501st as well.

Looking forward to watching your progress and building alongside you!
