Looking good! Question - you mention the Hovi's are white inside, but didn't paint yours. Colours might be a bit different on computer - are the TM Hovi's 'white' enough to pass do you think?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the question. There is certainly a yellow tint to the resin, however, in natural light I believe they are just white enough (hopefully).

Once the helmet painting is finished I’ll check them against the white and see how things stand. :-)

Yes, the resin is white enough when it is new. But this material tends to yellowing as time goes by.

My TM armor is 6 years old and since about 2 or 3 years I am watching this slow process. Bot a big issue at all, just mentioning.

If you want the inside of the mic tips to stay white forever, they should be painted before the grid gets installed.

Hey there folks,

A few photo updates to post. The helmet is now gloss coated and lacquered.

After the primer, I applied two coats of Halfords Ford Diamond white paint.

Unfortunately, the helmet fell over whilst the paint was drying and damaged the paint work:

Thankfully, I was able to salvage this, flatten the damaged paint over that area, then lightly sand once the paint had dried. More paint had to be applied to cover the damaged areas.

After this, I applied a coat of clear lacquer.

The helmet is, to be honest, shinier than I was planning, however, this will be lightly weathered. Also, checking many screen caps, despite the scratches, chips and damage, the originals on screen were clearly glossy and reflective as seen here;

Painting details and weathering to come. :-)

Thanks for stopping by.

Hi troopers,

More updates on this Troopermaster stunt helmet. The following video runs through gently removing the masking fluid to recreate the ‘chipped’ appearance of the seen-on-screen helmets.

The next video shows the first round of painting the details, in this case, using Humbrol Satin black #85 for the traps, tears, ears and vocoder.

I’ll post some photos later today. :-)

Hi all,

Carried on painting this TM beauty today. Just added the vertical lines to the traps and tears, plus the rank bar to the ears.

Not completely happy with the rear traps as the lines aren’t great. However I can touch this up.

Hey troopers,

Nearly finished now. First time using masking tape, pencil lines and freehand. Whilst they weren’t fully dry in these photos, overall I’m really pleased with them.

I’ll be sharing more details on the masking process soon, however, for now here’s some photos.

Good idea using the templates to get the stripes even(ish)

Hey Batman,

I’ve always used templates before but not for this build. Masking tape top and bottom, then a plastic guide to draw the curved pencil lines. Got this trick from Troopermaster. :-)

Great job. Really enjoyed wathching this build. The glossy shine is impressive in natural light and your hand painted tube stripes look awesome.

I tried free hand painting my tube stripes a few times but could never get them looking that good. I ended up buying templates from Ross @RWA (cheers Ross) which I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out.

Thanks, Martyn.

Yes, the clear lacquer really added the shine.

Ross did a nice job on the modified templates. They’re a nice alternative. :-)

Awesome stuff! Starting a Troopermaster build in a few days myself so I will be eagerly watching for that armor build!!

Thank you kindly. :-)

I’ll be documenting the armour build soon. Not quite as many videos (like the trimming) but more of the construction, strapping, fitting and light weathering. :-)
