Grand slam build. Looks fantastic and as Andrew mentioned thanks for the tutorials.

Thanks, Tony. Much appreciated.

It’s no trouble - I’ve really enjoyed documenting this build. :-)

Time for the CableGuy montage. ;-)

CableGuy Builds: Troopermaster completed montage
Just Awesome! This lid looks as if it really could protect a troopers head from the rebel scum!

Good Job Dan :trooper:

Many thanks. I’d recommend these methods to anyone looking for a more screen-like appearance. The TM lid is a big part of it, too. :-)

Hello world.

Just logging some armour build progress on here.

Aiming for original suit sizes (based on RS suit).

Sized-up and glued the biceps.

Still a little large so trimmed down another 5mm

Hi all

Another little update.

I wanted to find a way to get a really nice finish for the wrist end of the forearms. So, rather than scissors, Dremel or saw, I decided to literally just sands the whole edge with sand paper.

Full details of the process in this 6 minute video;

Here’s some finished pictures. I’m really pleased with the end result.

Hey troopers,

Working on the torso: I’ve better trimmed and sanded the parts, and now started on the original strapping system. Using screen reference material, plus the RS videos, for reference.

3mm drill used for the holes. The bolts supplied by TM are approx 3mm threaded shaft with a 5mm, flat head.

As it’s my first time using this method, the chest went fine, however, I had to drill some additional holes in the top of the ab plate as the chest and ab brackets didn’t quite line up. Thankfully, these will not be at all visible.

It’s a slow build (as I’ve had the kit since Christmas), but it’s really enjoyable. :-)

I've used the traditional strapping system on my RS TK. I found some areas didn't suit my build, so mixed it up with snaps as well. I love the fact that the original strapping can still be seen on the out side keeping to a more movie accurate appearance.

Good work Dan. I think you will be really happy with the apearance once completed. As I have used this system please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

Cheers,
Martyn. (Mar2D2)

Hey troopers

I hope everyone is well during these troubled times.

I’ve been slowly moving forward with this build, squeezing in build time around work and family time.

So, the torso is now pretty much complete. The strapping kit from TM is incredibly detailed and accurate.

36f04959510497b63c8a27ac25fc86e6.jpg

With the rear section now attached with the original method of brackets and elastics, I moved on to affixing the left hand side of the torso with split rivers and elastics.

d12f1ee4bf5e2184a5771a54d589d10b.jpg

The biceps and forearms were built a while back but I hadn’t made it round to joining them together. As per the originals, I’ve gone for black elastic glued directly into the armour (no poppers).

Based on screen references, I was very specific with where the elastics attach. On the bicep this is close to, and parallel to, the coverstrips.

Glued with Gorilla glue clear. Held during gluing with magnets.

4a50ab67820db7e413bae253cd90c149.jpg

This is the tricky part - for years, I’ve thought that the front of the bicep and forearm coverstrips should align. I was wrong. As below, the elastics should mount nearer to the centre of the upper forearm piece. This actually means that the bicep coverstrips sit just inside of (narrower than) the forearms.

Supporting material for bicep/forearm alignment;

It’s these sort of details that keep me enthralled with the OTTK. :-)

I also finished off the thermal detonator. Took a bit of jigging to get the proportions correct but it’s okay in the end. The supplied screws are a little big so I might swap them out for something more accurate.

Shoulder elastics glued into place;

That pretty much finishes off the torso strapping. The shape and feel of the TM kit really is impressive.

And finally, also got a brand new pair of gloves through from Imperial Warfighters. Lovely, thin flexible hand guards and a lovely paint finish.

Thanks for stopping by, troopers. :-)

It's one of those kits that are on my to do list, have always loved the details, only $'s holding me up.

Great work as usual.

Looks amazing so far mate. Loving the details comparing it to the screen used suits.

I know that you are already a member of the 501st. Are you not concerned that this suit may not pass future approval? The reason I ask is related to your arms. I personally love the detail and screen acuracy (again this amount of detail is down to individual personal preference and can be clearly seen in the original movie) yet, I see a lot of build threads where builders are advised to have straight, matching, lined up cover strips.

Just putting it out there.

Again great job Dan!

Hi Martyn,

It’s a good point. However, I’m not really worried. The alignment of the coverstrips is not part of the CRL so I see no issues at basic.

For EIB and Centurion, I’d happily argue the toss with the DOs if they questioned it. However, as a former DO myself, I know that many things at the higher levels are based on screen accuracy. As such, I’d be pretty confident with the arm alignment. :-)

Good question, though. :-)

Phwoar!!

9972774f499a0b0aa8657c7b8c64b009.jpg

I’m now using a standard camera tripod (adapter with a coat hanger and some foam) as a mannequin for my TK build. Helpful to see how things sit.

Must now finish the legs. So far, I’ve only glued the coverstrips at the front of the thighs. Need to get on to the shins next. :-)

Hey there Troopers

So, in amongst real life (and my current lean towards playing Call of Duty Warzone over building), I found some time yesterday to continue the build.

Part of this is thanks to the incentive to be ready for September 26th as the UK Garrison are working with Macmillan Cancer support to host virtual or socially distanced coffee mornings. Looking forward to doing good things to help people in need.

So, one shin front is now done and the other is currently gluing.

8eed0746c5101b2bd2fec93e0601da6a.jpg&key=1f552768ec52980924c5ec3b5c5ce1a701f4f9e957695613698f85186a2bb6be

So, just the recap, most of the torso and arms are done. Just need to add the ab buttons and shoulder bridges.

Thighs are glued at the front but need to size them up (hopefully screen accurate sizes, if poss) and add the top elastics.

1015e6e6f7250e3934b11a710cebab00.plist&key=2c6ba4e735f275076c1c69b286f28712245b349a3bf434c130a4dbe3e83d8267

Belt needs adding to the fabric belt and drop boxes to complete.

Getting there. :-)
