Newbie Just getting started

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

My name is Scott and I'm from Tucson, Az. I've loved Star Wars forever and have always wanted to have a honest to goodness real TK costume.  After many years and thanks to a financial screw up at work in my favor I'm working on an ANOVOS TK and trying not to goof it up along the way.  So far my previous build experience has been for my little people.  I've built 2 Foam TK's, a partially foam Vader, 2 Jawa's (still WIP), and a GONK (also WIP).  Those have been way less stress since if I screwed up I could just grab more fabric, foam, etc from the store and start smarter.

Now it's time I turn my attention to myself so that I can have something I can wear. My biggest hurdle so far is figuring out how much to cut off the backs of the appendages before I've cut too far and making sure it still looks right.  Also, will the amount of return edge cut from the right side of this AB plate be ok or should I try to find another?  It came from ANOVOS already trimmed for the most part and I noticed the variance when I placed it on top.

Hi Scott and welcome to the FISD. There are lots of great tips that can be found in the ANH Build Threads. Link below

https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ewhitearmor%2Enet%2Fforum%2Findex%2Ephp%3F%2Fforum%2F6-ANH%2B%2B%2528Stunt%2Band%2BHero%2529&share_sfid=6&share_fid=44557&share_type=sf

I'd also suggest creating your own build thread, where you can post updates and questions.

Good luck and enjoy.

Great job. You’ll be just fine here. Welcome aboard.

Ab plate looks nice to me. Start a build thread and let’s get started.

Welcome to the FISD!  The kid's costumes are great!  As far as trimming pieces - the original suits were not symmetrical and tidy.  So don't get too worried about making things look perfect - they weren't.  Here is a link to the image gallery for ANH TK.  This is not the definitive answer to how a finished kit should look, but it gives you some idea of what kind of latitude you have with the build

Also, a good general reference for trimming pieces is illustrated in these figures.  Again - some of these are approximations.

And be sure to check out the build section.  There is a very good Anovos build that is very detailed and many of us have used for our builds.

There is a ton more info on this site, so take some time to browse around.  If you want to see some finished kits that have met the highest standards, check out this thread:

Good luck with your build.

Welcome to FISD!  I have also done about 13+ Jawas now, so if you have any questions on those, feel free to drop me a line.
