Scimitar's Troop Log - TK17529 - 8 Troops

Recommended Posts

Troop #: 1

Date: September 28, 2018

Location: Fayetteville, GA

Event: Pinewood Studios "The Last Jedi" Friday Night Movie

Event Charity: Armed Forces Mission - Intervention of local veterans at risk of suicide

First deployment went perfectly! A little rain reduced the expected turnout a bit as it was an outside event, but it was perfect for shaking down the new kit and lots of fun was had regardless! There were a ton of smiles and high fives and people asking for pictures.

I'm already planning to attend Trooping Anonymous as I now understand why this is so addictive. Next troop is tomorrow!

And my daughter got to meet Leia. She was so excited!

I'll edit this post if/when any more pictures are posted.

Troop #: 2

Date: September 30, 2018

Location: Roswell, GA

Event: Aurora Cineplex and The Fringe Miniature Golf 8th Birthday Bash!

Event Charity: N/A

Second deployment went just as well as the first! This was a much larger event with hundreds of attendees and we had 25-30 participants show up ranging from Jawas to the boss himself. Lots of smiles, hugs, high fives, pictures, videos and explaining to kids that TK17529 really is my name. :smiley-sw013: Oh, and that I wasn't a robot.

I started the event by commandeering a SWAT Armored Vehicle, no easy feat in armor!

Great spot for targeting Rebels, not so great for getting in and out of:

Second we arrested a scavenger who was attempting to steal an orange and white BB unit:

Got some pictures with the boss and his daughter:

Pretty sure Leia is looking for a weak spot in my armor:

And a group shot because a handful of us ended up together:

Troop #: 3

Date: October 13, 2018

Location: Newnan, GA

Event: Zombie And Super Hero Day

Event Charity: Make-A-Wish, Promotion for Star Wars Reads (Coweta County Library System)

Third deployment was a fun one, the weather was perfect, and it was a great mix of all kinds of superheroes, villains, and zombies. I brought out the DLT-19 just in case any of those zombies got too rowdy. Kids and adults alike all had a blast as there were so many genres being represented in one spot.

Troop #: 4

Date: October 13, 2018

Location: The Barn at Oak Manor, Newnan, GA

Event: Wedding of Chadwick & Purvis

Event Charity: The Zone at CHOA

This was a surprise to the bride and groom who both love Star Wars very much. The groom submitted the request but the follow up was done through the wedding coordinator, so they had no idea that anyone had actually signed up. So TK 64622 and I (both of us now being referred to as "The Surprise") got prepared and as soon as the bride and groom were announced at the end of their ceremony, the doors opened and we proceeded down the aisle to escort the bride and groom back out. It was hard to tell who was more excited: the bride, the groom, or those in attendance, but I'm pretty sure it was the groom. We were asked to participate in the photos and we also made sure to take photos with anyone who asked.

That was an awesome experience and an honor to be a part of.

Troop #: 5

Date: October 28, 2018

Location: Zoo Atlanta

Event: Boo At The Zoo

Event Charity: N/A

We had amazing weather for this event, considering it had been cold and raining in the days leading up to this event, so the turnout was awesome. The Great Jawa Horde was out in force and Sandy the Sandcrawler even made an appearance.

Troop #: 6

Date: October 30, 2018

Location: Coweta County Central Library

Event: Coweta County Library - Star Wars Reads

Event Charity: N/A

This was a smaller event helping to support family and literacy programs at one of the local libraries. The turnout was still great and the kids really enjoyed our presence!

So the base underneath all that is a retired Ford bus (you can sort of see it over the Jawa's shoulder in the picture above). I don't quite remember what they're made of but the panels are attached to the bus via a metal framework system and are removable and all fit inside the bus itself. It's amazing to see in person!!

Troop #: 7

Date: 11/25/18

Location: CHOA Egleston Hospital - Atlanta

Event: CHOA Egleston Visit

Event Charity: N/A

After almost a month without trooping a last minute request popped up for this visit. I feel that visits such as these are why we do what we do, bringing smiles to kids (and adults) faces. Helping these amazingly strong kids to forget their reality for just a moment makes a huge difference. I was the only Garrison member with a costume able to attend, fortunately I did have a Garrison handler come too, so I mixed it up with the other group that was there.

Troop #: 8

Date: December 1, 2018

Location: Peachtree Street, Atlanta

Event: CHOA Christmas Parade

Event Charity: CHOA Charity Event

It was cold. It was raining non-stop. It was windy. That didn't stop a group of around 80 members and handlers from going out and marching down Peachtree Street. And we were very well received! So many happy kids and parents calling out characters or yelling thanks for being out there. Definitely a memorable event just due to the weather. A group of us decided to remain as canon as possible (candy cane blasters were the only non-canon items as blasters were not permitted this year) and it turned out very well with the way the groups were organized in line.

Some soaked folks decided to bypass the group shot:

One of our members is notorious for wandering during the parade, so pre-parade we showed him what we'd do if he decided to wander off...

Bad picture but here I am (center screen) on TV. :)  I'll replace this photo whenever I get access to the recording.

I like the black and white photo of you and the squad on the train. Reminds me of the opening scene to The Warriors!

We were total bada$$es in that parade!!!!  It was the single most grueling troop I've ever participated in.   The rain was bad, but the wind!!   Agh!!!  It was painful, was it not?

Hey, at least we had no lens fogging issues, right?  And we looked ah-maz-ing out there in the rain.  The kids loved us!!!

Curious about the effects the rain had on your electronics. I keep mine in my chest, but I think if I were to be in bad weather, I’d elect to not troop with all the electronics in the chest. Was it cold as well? Appears so.

I had my electronics turned off.  I don't think anyone had electronics on that day.  If they did, I don't think they would have been working by the end of the troop.  We were soaked when we were done.  I'm not exaggerating on that one.  Someone mentioned that taking a shower would have been a drier experience, and that was definitely true.  My boots are still drying out from the event.

And the temps were in the high 40's to low 50's that day.  When the wind would blow, it felt much, much colder than that.  My fingers hurt for a while- until they went completely numb.  So, yeah, it was cold.

Wow, that’s dedication. I feel like you guys should have a special patch just for that troop. That’s one I would’ve been like, “oh, yeah, ummm, my kid puked....uh, I can’t make it today. Sorry guys!”

Nice job, though. Now I’m thinking I need to buy some real deal, thermal undersuit...

I had my fans and Ukswrath hovi-speakers on for the duration of the parade, no issues and fortunately everything is still working as it should, which is a real testament to the speakers themselves as they are exposed. My electronics "boxes" are mounted to the sides of the helmet near the ears, so I think that kept them unexposed to the water that did get in. And man, was there water everywhere. I dumped quite a bit out of the helmet at the end.

There was a lot of stopping and standing during the parade, so to keep myself distracted from the wind and rain I was mentally designing a vinyl/patch to represent the event. I need to sit down and put it on the computer at some point.

I was joking that day that I should have worn a diving suit under the armor. Seriously though, the cold weather compression gear by Tesla works really well. But I'd only recommend it for a colder, outdoor event, anything else and you'll likely get too warm. Not sure how it would do in a rainy event, it might get pretty soggy with the additional lining.

See that, Eric? We are on the same wavelength here for a patch for your event...
