It's very hard to get scratches off lens material, you could use some ultrafine sandpaper @2000 grit, or even some cutting polish, may be a little more forgiving

Was thinking the same. Will give it a try, worst case, ripe it out and start again.

Only way to get the scratches out is to buff them out. You can get a buffing bit for a Dremell that usually comes with buffing compound. I have used this to make clear lenses for hengsler counters on the resin Doopy's kits and it works perfectly.

Used some blobs of Apoxie to strengthen around the ear screw holes, which gave me a bit more confidence when counter sinking the screws. Least something turned out ok today :)6510434011cac207d7bc0d725c2328be.jpg0c4a4ceaf47f0f02d6eef11d89296306.jpg

Polishing the lenses didn't work, so ripped it out and ordered another sheet to cut to size.

Used 600 grit to get rid of the green stains in the sockets, 1200 grit to finish. It came up good as new.acd70c5ecbe768cd864a964c164c4838.jpg

Sorry to hear it didn't work. Just note you don't need an exact seal on the lenses, having a small gap does allow air to flow and can help with fogging. I found once you are happy with the fitment just to tape in place and add some silicon in a few areas to keep the lens in place, easy to remove an has some flex, just an idea.

Thanks, only a small problem in the scheme of things. Had a gap on the lower edge for air flow. Will try the silicon on next attempt.

  • 2 weeks later...

Welding screen arrived yesterday. Lenses cut & installed, brow mesh in, touch up paint done.

Hopefully finish the helmet today, whilst on zoom calls of work :)

With the s trim, is it worth gluing in place or will it hold itself without some spots of glue? As I have seen varying opinions on the forums.9dd2d5dd94b49890fc0ddd90eebc2f36.jpg8e699318cdc89edb9dddfc81e9cec5ec.jpg

Great to see you worked through your little setback.

As to the S trim, make sure you cut it longer than you need and when placing it on feed it around the helmet and really push it in. Mine and I know many others are simply pressure fit in that way and where they do come off sometimes, it's not a frequent occurrence.

You want to make sure once you are getting close to meeting the other end that you have an extra cm or so, so you really need to force it along to get a nice tight fit. if you have too much just trim a touch more off the end but it is surprising how you can cram that last little bit in and it holds firmly in place.

Thanks Sly11, saw a rs prop masters video of them doing that so will go with your recommendation.

This may sound strange, but because of the oval shaped opening many of us have to put our buckets on sideways and then rotate it forward.

How much can I widen the opening for my big head? doesnt fit in with the trim

You can trim off more (a little towards the back and a bit more towards the front).  Take a little bit at a time - a couple of mm can make the difference.

Some of the screen used buckets had quite a bit shaved off the bottom, so you should have no issues.

S trim in on.

Just need to fix 1 decal, add som padding and get some more white paint for the screws.

Can't seem to get the R ear any closer even with targeted sanding. But believe that was ok based on previous posts and being able to drive bus through the gaps in some of the original helmets.34d3dd8c3b713ac1f67c2b4c37e43641.jpg5d73b983eb3077d04929caf499bcacf7.jpg

Time to finish calves

How's the position of this sniper knee look?

I noticed most AP builds seem to have a slight lean. Will just need heat up one side to push it down slightly.

Should I trim the return edge on the bottom of the knee plate for a closer fit?

The positioning looks pretty close.  Trimming the bottom return edge will allow for easier adjustments when you heat it up.  The trick that worked for me is to get it to fit as best you can by heating it up and shaping - then glue one side and let cure for about 48 hours (assuming E6000 is being used).  Then grab a bunch of clamps and glue the other side... it will take some persuasion.

Looking good!

You might want to think about trimming off some more of the bottom of the sniper plate.  This may give you some "wiggle room" to straighten it out a bit as well as reduce the gap between it and the top of the the calf.

Looking good. With the the sniper plate I had to pull mine across so I didn't trim all the return edge of the bottom front, I cut a notch into it so the coverstrip held the plate central.

Thanks, this would have been a better solution, but already trimmed. Better fit before trimming but nothing a bath won't fix.

Been a productive few days.

- Velcro closures and cover strips on calves.
- Sniper knee in place just needs a small bit of heating and glue to attach the sides. Front glue has had 48hrs to cure. Happy with it's position.

- Front of thighs done, and reinforced on inside, return edges trimmed,
- thigh ammo pack trimmed.
- Split rivets purchased from Bunnings, no sausage though :( .

Plan to finish legs by end of week.

Cover strips on backs of thigh should be vertical and exacly in middle or off set slightly ok??

Great work Mark. :duim:  Sniper knee is always a challenge .

Would you mind to post photos of the posterior side of the Shins and Thighs please? I would like to see the alignment and mobility cuts if they are present.

something like this.
