Hey guys! My R1TK is officially approved! Whoop whoop!

In other news however, I made this fan film with members of the 501st, family, and friends (poor family...) and below is a trailer for it. The final film will be posted on June 10th, so keep an eye out for that. I'll be coming up with a Field Report soon.

Looks rather interesting! And shot out in the woods like a proper fan film :laugh1:  But in all seriousness, it looks like a fun watch. Is this your first film? or are there any other short films I can watch while I'm waiting?

Thanks man! Haha, I wish I could film outside of the woods, I like to think of the lack of redwoods as another part of Endor near one of the redwood populated forests. I like to think conditions and altitude have to do with the lack of tall trees in that sector ;)

Yes and no. This is my first fictional film that I've made, all my other films/videos are documentaries and such. They usually are Religious themed, but my major documentary that went on EWTN in January is on the channel as well :)

Also as a final note, there are lovely well made fan films on Youtube made by others that inspired me to do this one. Notable films are: Darth Maul: Apprentice, upcoming fan film "Oddyssy," and Scout: A Star Wars Story.

EWTN? Wow that's actually pretty big, I think they are an international network, so you must be doing something right. Congrats on that! Anyways, I'm quite excited to watch this film when it comes out, your inspirations appear to be placed in the right stuff!:duim: Short film is a completely different rodeo than a documentary, but based on that trailer, you seem to be doing just fine! As long as you keep making movies, and maybe watch some rocket jump film school, you can only get better!

You're correct Eric, they have done amazing work all over :) Thank you so much for the high compliments! I hope this film meets expectations, got the rough cut of it done today, and now it's on to perfecting and adding :D

Little update: We are currently applying Stormtrooper audio to the rough cut, and then it's on to finalizing the fine details in time for the Weekend! We have most of it applied, waiting on one of the voice actors, and some last minute lines from the other main characters, along with backround voices to be sent in. But we are staying on target!

Also, the trailer really doesn't show all of it, but this film is very much war themed. This is the dirty battlefront side of the war, specifically from the Stormtrooper's point of view. Think of the movie "Iwo Jima" by Clint Eastwood, where it's from the perspective of the Japanese, showing even the good side of them.

Fantastic!! Especially for a first time making a short film! :duim:  I would like to give you a little constructive criticism based on some of my own experience, but I'll give some compliments first on what was done well. It had a nice cohesive story, and a decent flow to it. The sound design, especially in the battle portion, was very well done; it was a pleasant surprise. Many of the shots looked really damn cool too. Obviously the costumes were great, thanks to the 501st :smiley-sw013:, and helped make the story more convincing.

Now for some areas of improvement to keep in mind for whatever your next film will be -star wars or not. There's only a few things that kinda 'took me out of the film' so to speak. First and foremost was the presence of unnecessary jump cuts. When they are not being used for story telling purposes they make films look a little off and poorly edited. If you don't know what a jump cut is, you can google it, but the first one appears just before 1:10, and several more are in that sequence. A good way to fix this is to record many more takes of the same scene from many different angles, and cut between them.  Second was the VFX. Now obviously a low budget short film can't afford expensive CG, but writing a script around the need for explosions works well. But so does some cheap fireworks! :laugh1: but I wouldn't recommend that in the woods. The last major criticism I would give would be that there was some areas of the film that were quite silent that could have had more sound/dialogue, or could have been cut out. It just feels off.  Some more minor things I noticed was that the music didn't always fit the scene, lighting could have had more attention, some things the TKs said were lost in the voice fx, and the action sequences felt a tad underwhelming.

But all in all, this was well done, and you did great! It was an enjoyable watch and I will be looking forward towards whatever you make next!

Best of luck!

Thank you so much Eric! Yeah, I wish we could've gotten fireworks, maybe next time ;)

And I agree with the jump cuts, they were needed to hide some of the obvious mistakes or misalignment errors we had, especially since we reduced the voices with better acting. I wish we had the money to shell out quality CGI, but until then, some green screen from youtube had to do :) I get a big kick out of telling people that the lasers were actually photographs of a laser, split up into multiple pieces, and animated through digital stop motion animation to create the look.

I am toying with the idea of one day in the future making a larger scale fan film, with a Battle of the Bulge type feel. Our garrison hosted a Rogue One tank for the Joliet Public Library Star Wars Day here in Illinois. We had TK's escorting the tank in the parade. I thought it'd be cool to talk to the owner (from Kansas) and see if he'd be interested in doing a fan film with me in the future. We'll see what happens, I'm going to college in the Fall, so probably not this year ;)
