3/18/2018 - Bingo for a Cure - Allentown, PA

Recommended Posts

Regrettably, I have not been posting in the Field Training Exercises as much as I wanted to due to just not having time. But once in a while a troop just tugs at me and represents everything we do in the 501st Legion and FISD.

This is my 35th Troop! A special one at that.

The following in my mission report:

The 11th annual Bingo for a Cure Event for Joshua Scoble has turned into a MUST troop event for me personally every year. This Bingo event is held every year to help raise funds for research in a very rare disease called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) "which is one of the rarest, most disabling genetic conditions known to medicine, FOP causes the bone to form in the muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. Bridges of extra bone develop across joints, progressively restricting movement and forming a second skeleton that imprisons the body in bone. There are no other known examples in medicine of the one normal organ system turning into another." -IFOPA. More information on the disorder can be found here: http://www.ifopa.org/what_is_fop

Joshua is one of the toughest kids I know, and feel honored to be trooping and representing our Garrison at this major event. Let's begin the debrief.

I arrived at the venue at 0900 to make sure our changing area was ready. The venue provided us water, sodas, and snacks for our time. I manned the doors until one of our squires arrived. Once we all suited up, we had a few group photos taken with all of the volunteers and of course Joshua.

After the group photos, we were free to mingle with the attendees as the gates opened at 1030. The guests and kids were pleased to see us (as usual) and took photos with us as they waited for the Bingo game to begin. Shout out to Craig for being a real trooper in his Vader. He suffered an ankle injury a week ago but still managed to suit up for this event and get out there to please the crowd.

Some of the most honorable moments for me was at the end where Josh Kinney and I went up on stage to assist in calling the 1st Bingo number for the event. This happened after a speech from Joshua Scoble and his parents ( a real tear-jerker). They really appreciated Garrison Carida and the 501st for attending this event. We were thanked over their PA system multiple times throughout the day. All I can say is that I believe we all felt honored to be there.

I have attached a few photos provided by Agent M and Dean Flyte. More photos were shared in the Garrison Carida members page on Facebook. I know more photos were taken and will share once we have links to them. To the troopers and squires in attendance, thank you for being part of this troop. It means a lot to Darth Scoble. Please tell us your best trooping moments for this event! :)
