Trimming, trimming, and more trimming.

I feel like I’m over the hump in terms of cutting these out. My right hand is rather swollen from my scissors so I’m going to call it on cutting until I get back to VT later this week.

I intentionally left some extra plastic on the sides of the center abdomen armor. I’m not sure if I’ll need to shim anything yet so figured it was safe to keep a bit.

How much of a return edge is needed on the outer chest armor? Again, I left more than I think is needed. The details are crisp.

The lower back parts are very nicely shaped to fit together. I haven’t cut out the TD yet but it slides right into the rails like a glove. 67666a4360efdd890dbb3d5b97fa6a4d.jpg

I only roughly cut out the pauldron BSP sent. It’s much too small. Here are some photos comparing to the Anovos FO pauldron. If this BSP is used as a base for leather on top, it could be perfect. That’s out of my wheelhouse, so I’m just going to drop this thing in my bin of extraneous parts. Maybe a short FOTK will be able to use it at some point?

Now lastly, because I’m a child. You can all look at my crotch. I think this will work for TLJ. If not, I’ll sort something out.

Great work Patrick!

The trim line given on the chest looks about right, so you could take it down a little more.

The Pauldron could easily be made to work with the addition of a plastic yard sign cut to size. I think you’re familiar with what I did with mine? Anyway, as you’re one of the few in the world with an Anovos Pauldron it’s a moot point.

The cod is fine for one of the three TLJ cod variants.

I thought the black pauldrons were all distributed! Had no idea those were still mostly missing.

I don’t recall your pauldron build, I’ll check that out when my kids hit the sheets tonight. The 3 of us with this BSP kit are toying with the idea of making unofficial green mountain pauldrons with these small ones.

I’ll take that extra return off the chest tonight before packing this back up until next weekend. Thanks for the info.

This is the box still needing to be cut out.

Nice work so far Pat.

Question regarding the Ab section. Looking at your photos, the back plate appears to have a portion of the TD attached to it, is there anywhere for the back plate to be split behind that TD section? The reason I ask is the CRL states there can be no visible seams, that means the sides will need to be seamless. If your body is small enough to slide into the Ab section fully enclosed then you have nothing to be concern with. If not the back section will need to have a seam so you can open and close it.

Regarding your chest return edge question, leaving roughly 1/8" or so should be sufficient.

The back plate and TD plate are separate pieces. I stood them up together for the photo. I have no idea if I’ll fit into this thing without any seams. I’m leaning toward needing to cut the back as you said.

I went ahead and trimmed off that excess on the chest.

Looking good! One concern now is the return edge in the yoke and back. Did they leave you anything to play with there?

They didn’t really leave much there and I didn’t think to leave excess beyond the trim line until I finished these two.

I haven’t cut the connecting ridge piece out yet.

For clarification when you received the armor the yoke (shoulder) return edge was missing?

That appears to be how they send them out. I’ve seen a few examples now, hence the question to Patrick to confirm the status of his kit.

Yeah, I cut the yoke out right on their trim lines. I take it I need to add a return edge?

In a word....yes! The return isn't specified in the CRL but it is very much a characteristic of the kit.

I must say this kit looks very nice and clean, the pulls look reasonably sharp too, I'm impressed.

Keep up the great work Pat, so glad you finally received your kit.

Well, shucks. That’s going to be difficult. Would you mind snapping a picture of yours so I can see what the problem is. As you said, the CRL makes no mention of this.

You might get away with it see how it looks mocked up on you. I've taken way more than that off on a trooper and it passed, but had to because of body type

Well, I guess I’ll have to put the yoke on and take a photo when I get back to VT on Wednesday.

thanks Tony.  I'll have to figure out how to add one back.  I certainly have a ton of scrap ABS to work with.

I think I have your metal shoulder tabs in my pile of supplies.  Is that tab in the photo the same way yours are attached?

Check in with Roberto. He is aware of the issue and they are looking to adapt the CNC mold. Not sure how long it will take though.

The shoulder tab bracket and black bell elastics were well and truly fixed in place with a coating of Power-Mix VIP. On the screen used kits that is.

I would expect it to be a few months before they are shipping any new parts from new molds.  But I'll reach out to him just in case.

would adding the return edge made from sintra and coated in an epoxy and bondo work?  I'm trying to wrap my head around options for this that don't involve needing a new piece of plastic from someone else.

I guess the answer is whatever it takes to get the desired result.

You’re looking for two things here...the correct appearance combined with durability. Getting an approval pass is one thing but surviving the rigours of trooping is another.

I'm thinking that EVA foam, not sintra (my mistake), coated in epoxy or fiberglass resin would survive the rough and tumble land of trooping.   The photo Tony posted looks like the return is about 1/2 inch.. is there a specific length I need to strive for?
