Rectangular vs Square hole for magnetic closure

Recommended Posts

I'm converting a velcro FOTK build into a magnetic one. I'm thinking about using rectangular magnets for the chest, back, and shins since I don't have the tools to drill holes for circular magnets.

In terms of long-term wear & tear, is there a significant difference between the strength of rectangular vs circular holes in ABS?

I'm thinking that, in both situations, the magnets will put stress on the seams of whatever hole they're in from moving etc.

If anyone has any advice or experience on the matter i'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I would say that magnet attaching as a whole isn't very practical for larger areas like what you're talking about, especially if you're twisting and turning a lot which could separate the magnets without any stretching. If you must though, always go with round or circular cuts; rectangle/sharp edges on abs is always more likely to succum to cracking and breaking.

I thought so too. Thanks a million!
