Rubies armor - thoughts?

Recommended Posts

(I hope I'm posting this to the right place)

Hello all,

We have a new member candidate and he apparently was not aware of our existence and bought a Rubies TK armor. He was obviously not happy with the helmet so he bought a new (eFX I guess?) helmet. Anyway, he is willing to join our ranks and also willing to work on the necessary modifications.

For starters, he definitely needs some TK boots and a holster. Helmet piece must be fixed.

What else should he work on? I'd appreciate if you can give me a list to pass onto him.

Or should I tell him to dump this one completely and buy a whole new set of armor (I don't want to do this because it is discouraging and unfortunately he paid ALOT of money for the rubies).

Thanks,

Here is a quote from the thread entitled "Where, what and whom to avoid when buying (armor)"...  http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/19329-where-what-and-whom-to-avoid-when-buying/

Rubies Supreme Stormtrooper Costume:

"Even though the Rubies TK armor is licensed by Lucas Films, it is not acceptable for Legion membership without a LOT of work and putting a LOT more money and time into it. The average price for a Rubies Supreme Stormtrooper Costume is $400USD (305 Euros) to $700USD (535 Euros). But, after you factor in that you will have to purchase a replacement helmet, buy supplies to modify the armor, all this, just to get the Rubies TK armor up to Legion standards. It would be cheaper and easier for you to start with a new armor kit.

There have been a few members that have done Rubies with all the upgrades, but afterwards said they spent a lot of time and money and will be looking into a different suit of armor next."

This is not an uncommon event, Ates, and I actually bought a kit from eBay myself before finding out about the FISD.  After finding out it could not be 501st approved, I used the opportunity as a learning experience by using the build threads here to complete it, and then listed it on eBay as a "Halloween costume, not approvable for 501st standards".  It sold in 2 days, and I actually did not lose any money!   If he decides to do this, please ask him to ensure that he uses that phrase "Not approvable..." in the listing so that someone else doesn't purchase it to join as well.  There are lots of people out there willing to buy it, I promise, and he can use the money from that to purchase a kit that will allow him to join.   http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/

Aside from the obvious issues with the armor, don't force him to buy TKboots (which can be expensive) unless he knows there are cheaper options for basic approval. You can easily get approved with non TKboots that still meet basic requirements.

Speaking from experience, Sadly I had a Rubies that was given as a present. I wore it for a couple of Halloween's and then was asked if I was 501st? I said no and that night I found out about "US". What I read here opened my eye's! I did my research and discovered it's garbage. With LFL all over the box?. So long story even longer I decided on a RT-MOD kit and when it came I was blown away! Now this is real! Do me a favor and tell your friend to run! But seriously, I did just what Joseph said. Sell it noting it's non aprovable for 501st. Someone will buy it. Tell him Good Luck and we're here to help.

Sell it on eBay. Buy something else.

Thanks for the feedback guys :) I'll advise him.

i know this is old but it's possible to modify. That's what I am doing. With exception to the helmet and the button cover on the ab plate, everything else is good to go for ROTJ TK. At least that's from my research and understanding,... I'm still very new.

You could do it but it isn't worth it. The armor lacks detail and will stand out against a CFO TK. And any TK for that matter. I'm not knocking you. If anything I say Good Luck!
