Help With Fibreglass Armour

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Six months ago i received some fibreglass armour but have found it has a lot of problems elastic undoing, Velcro falling off and the armour itself is like an Ikea flat-pack with parts having indents. Could someone please give me some ways to fix it or even an alternative armour under $1000 AUD.

Cheers

Hi Ari!    I am not familiar with any methods on repairing fiberglass, as 99.9% of the OT TK armor we use is made from ABS plastic.  The only armor I know of that is made from fiberglass is the TFA builds made by a few makers.  Hopefully your goal is to join the 501st, and if so you may want to check out this thread which lists those makers whose armor is fully approvable: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/.  Unfortunately, there are many places online you can buy armor that is not accepted, including eBay, so stay well clear of these.  Here a few:  http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/19329-where-what-and-whom-to-avoid-when-buying/

Hi,

I think ill try to find some abs armour like i originally was but i'm a bit put off by the price, i don't know where to get armour from i tried originalstrormtrooper.com's battle spec but it's a bit expensive. I just relised that the armour i have is a recast by an unauthorized person who lives near me, i'll try to some how get some other armour . Also if you wanted to see the pics i took of my armour the links are here:

I am sorry that your dream was so close...yet so far away. However, you are in the right place to keep that dream alive. Poke around until you have decided which armor works best and threads will guide you to make your dream a reality. For now, just chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Most of the quality armor is going to be a bit expensive, but if you save bit by bit it's totally possible and worth it. I would stay away from Originalstormtrooper as there are a bunch of issues. Where are you located? Take a look at the approved vendors list, I can't link it on this comp but it's under the getting started area.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is where i got the armour i have now, i bought it thinking he was authorized and thought it was accurate http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/langwarrin/collectables/star-war-stormtrooper-armour-prop-kit/1106436360. Also i'm thinking about buying AP armour does anyone know if it is worth it since $1,380 is a lot of money considering i'm still not allowed to get a job.

thanks for all the support so far, Ari

What I would do at this point is try to re-sell it on eBay, Ari.  That way you could recoup some of your money and use that to purchase a quality set.  If you do that, please list it as a "Halloween Costume, not eligible for 501st approval".  It will sell, I promise you.  AP is a GREAT set of armor, but there are sellers like AM (Troopergear) who sell kits for less than $800.00

I have built two sets of AP armor, you can see detail pictures in my build thread in my signature.  It's a fantastic set and worth every penny in my opinion!
