Are you using internal covers? If not, putting on in may support it and assist the external cover pulling both sides together.

Have you got any more pics of the problem area?

Marc

Yea here you go mate. Without the cover strip on its sitting good but once I put a cover strip on its out of line and no mate only external cover strips.

This top pic is how it looks with a cover strip on and both joins aligned on the main thigh. Notice it raises the base above.

Hey, I reckon you run an internal strip to level the main part of the thigh. Then cut a small piece of abs to glue the two raised areas together on the inside, which will hopefully pull that raised area down. I'd do it over a couple of days and maybe give the second stage a good clamp for 48 hours.

The other thing that I've just thought of is the fact that you may need to slice into this area and remove some material in order to have better movement. I'd focus on the rear length rather than the raised area and maybe come back to it once you establish whether you need to remove anything. There's no point putting a strip behind if it's going to be cut off.

I wouldn't worry about the raised section not aligning 100% perfectly. Whilst my armour isn't RWA mine has a gap too and it was fine. The main bit where the cover strip goes has to align to allow for the cover strip to attach.

Is that the front or back in the pic mate? If it's the back I believe that there is a high possibility that this area would be cut out to allow for greater movement.

thats the back, I've not cut mine out as I didn't need to. People are always so fast to cut them when many don't really need to.

My first test fit with thighs and calfs. I have a problem with my thighs being to tight and to low as I can't pull them up any higher as I have really big legs. How do I go about shimming them to make them fit better?

Shim the backs so the front design features are still perfect. If you have to shim front and back then you'll have to scuplt a bit. Sadly shims means seam work and paint.

Shame as it looks like you had plenty of extra ABS to make them bigger before you assembled them. Now you will have to rip them apart and add wider joining strips to make up the distance needed. No shims are needed. Just use wider joining strips. They are a lot easier and less fuss.

I know. When we sized them on me before I cut (we sized 3times) they felt great taped then once I've cut and glued them they are really tight on my quad, everywhere else is a perfect fit.

The thighs are the one piece of armour that should be loose on your body. They are the most flexed muscles when you walk so leave a good 25-30mm extra room on the top and even more at the knee when you come to fix it.

Cheers mate. I'll make the adjustments

Ok I've sized the thighs back up and I think I've made a major boob first time and I dunno how.

As you can see I have about a 2inch gap and the bottom moving upto a 3inch gap at the top. Are these salvageable or are they done.

Cheers.

Ok even though I royally knacked my thighs I've cracked on with the top half and shins.

I had a mare with the brass rivets first time also but sussed them second time around.

So once I order my new thighs and fit the properly this time I'm done.

Had a test fit tonight as I've finished all my strapping I'm thinking it looks pretty good apart from the missing thighs ha ha.

I need to adjust the left shin a little as the return is digging into my shin. So I'll trim that a little and it will be all good.

  • 2 weeks later...

Productive morning so far, wired up my aker and iPhone into my chest plate, painted the brass rivets and another coat onto the ab buttons. Both thigh front cover strips glued and cleaned just need to size and trim the back now.
