ThayNerd[TK] Posted June 12, 2008 Report Share Posted June 12, 2008 Gas prices are killing me, I paid $4.50 yesterday for gas and it sure doesn't help that I have a V8 that gets only 17 mpg. It might be time to get a second car and leave the V8 for the weekends. What is everyone else paying for gas, something ridiculous I'm sure? Its about 5.00 a gallon, but that is low right now. I have seen it up as high as 7.00. They pay by the Liter. I get around the whole mess... I cycle. Problem is when I did that in the states about 3 months ago I almost got smeared by non attentive drivers. We are not set up for high prices, or other modes of transportation yet. It is truly a crisis in America. Its not going to go away anytime soon IMO. So its time to change. I am a very loud supporter for muscle cars too. Just got to pay to play these days. Get a used one and what you may have to shell out in easy to replace parts you'll save at the pump, for sure. You have to believe there's something going on between the car companies and oil companies when they're marketing 28mpg as the best we can do, and those hideous, unsafe, and above all *expensive* smart cars get the same (or less) mileage that a regular compact car with a backseat got in 1992. Oh yeah...I got gas yesterday for my 99 Dodge Ram (full size, 21mpg{?!?!}) and I paid about 3.95 or so. $35 for a quarter tank. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Here's my latest Imperial requisition, the TK Scoot Much more practical than the old TK Transport. I think I have a white and black problem. I read somewhere that the institute responsible for that changed how they figure it exactly. Sorry for the lack of details, I'm too tired right now to do research. My pathetic 60L fuel tank cost me $108 to fill up and does just on 400km (250 miles) .I do 600-800 km a week , so $150 -$200 a week on fuel . I'm concidering getting a small car but that would make 4 in the driveway! Can't give up the truck I use it all the time and we don't have the weather here to make a motorcycle practical transportation. It's a bad situation and we just gotta eat it! But even this small distance means I'm spending $20.00 a week in gas. The entire oil and gas industry is just corruption and lies. Oil IS NOT AND NEVER HAS BEEN worth more than $50.00 bucks per barrel. We're all being royally screwed by big oil and gas corporations and the corrupt government regimes that they're in bed with. Many would say $800 for white plastic is crazy but all of us here pay it. There is just so much more demand today. The only thing they can do is increase the supply. The problem in the U.S. is that China and Cuba drill for oil closer to the U.S. coastline than we do. The enviromentalists have our government restricting production so much that we can't help ourselves. We haven't built a new refinery in this country in over 30 years. Almost all of our baseball and football stadiums are newer than our newest oil refineries! Bottom line is drill here, drill now, pay less. You can still put effort into "alternative" sources and "greener" solutions but for right now our economy is grinding to a halt for no reason. Australia has it's own oil fields , and we refine our own fuel ,yet we still pay almost twice the price for our fuel .I spend about a quarter of my wage on petrol . I got a 95 Grand Prix so I'm still averaging around 30 MPG right now, though buyin one of those 90MPG scooters is very tempting. We need to just drill Alaska and be done with it, the new rigs and new drillin methods are very low impact. I work for a natural gas company here in PA and we need just under an acre of free ground and occasional we hit oil locally so its there, its just so hard to get it out and to a refinery. I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler which costs me about $65 to fill up and gets about 12mpg here in and around our small town. My wife and I are looking into trading in our 2000 Cherokee (which gets around 20.5mpg, at best) on a small car, like a Kia or Mazda. Can't afford the Honda's and Toyota's.
