Allan1313's HWT build

Recommended Posts

Its getting fairly close to completion. I put together the side tube, minus the TK shoulder strap piece.

I then put the tube on the pack as well as all the boxes.

Getting close, I also ordered my pauldron from Trooper1 over at MEPD. Need to get my butt in gear and finish my DLT-19 as well so my HWT can have a BFG.

What did you use for the end caps on the side tube?

I used regular PVC end caps, cut them to size and used plastruct as a cover.

Another update here.

Hit up the dollar store to get some more supplies and did some more work on the boxes.

The put some bondo in the seams on the radio box, sanded and primed it.

Created the "vents" for the vent box.

Did some more bondo work on the lower right angled box. Much happier with it now.

Got some cups at the dollar store for the "cone" under the bottom right box.

Also got a clorox wipes container for the middle cylinder. Here is the cylinder, bottom part of cone, and vents drying from the silver fox paint.

Finished up the "button" box.

Also picked up some measuring cups for the circles on the radio box. What do you think of the size? Do they stick out too much?

I used Gatorade/Powerade caps for my radio knobs. Still deciding to look for actual dials from old/junk radios

I had zero luck finding actual 2-1/4" knobs anywhere. Could always find knob decals to fot on the gatorade caps though

Kmart had them on clearance a few months back for $15-20.

I don't think they carry them anymore. I grabbed 2 of them

Wow! $50. Considering I already have the same stool, but with an MG logo, and would rather buy armor accessories, I'm going to pass.

Amazon is pretty amazing. I've been buying from them for 20 years.

The only reason i got them was the sale, otherwise i don't think they are worth $50. I buy pretty much everything I can on Amazon, I love it.

Now I have an update and am a bit too exited about it haha. I finished my LED setup. I had an LED controller I was going to use for another project but didn't so I used it here so I can control the pattern and speed of the LEDs. I also made some covers that stick on using magnets that I can cover the LEDs when needed. Let me know what you think.

They look great Allan! If I knew we could post what we did I would have shown the tracer lights I have and DVD player in my radio. Pack is looking sweet brother.

Thanks guys!

I am about 95% done. I just have the shoulder strap piece that goes on the tube (getting that from a buddy) and some weathering.

Here are some overall pics of the pack.

I tried my hand at weathering this piece and think it came out OK so I will continue with some more of it.

Once I try it on with the TK I might have to adjust the straps some more.

Also thinking about adding some padding to the back so it doesn't scratch up the TK.

Definitely recommend padding the inside it also helps hold pack to backplate. Are you drybrushing paint on? I used aluminum model paint and built up in layers. Like around knob edges and corners where it would get scuffed. I used the cheapest stencil brush they had and worked great. I think it was 1 1/2" diameter.

Yes I was using dry brushing. But I don't think it was dry enough, used a towel to wipe it away and it looked a bit better. Will try some more later.

I tried my hand at weathering the pack. I don't think I went overboard, but its nice to get other opinions.
