redking1
Hey folk's!. So i been trooping my TD,And i have been suggested a number of times as a entertainer for children's birthday's/event's etc, While it dose seem like a good idea, there is obvious legal issues,I was just wondering has anyone researched into this? Or do any of you get hired for small event's such as parties etc?. As i don't want to start off anything such as hiring at event's etc without researching into it first,But i can't find any information so i am just asking here insted. I am still new to all of this. I do understand the 501st is a free hire organisation,I Just received quite a few enquires about hiring,it's a question/suggestion i have gotten non-stop since i got the suit up and about. Thanks. justjoseph63[Staff]
While you can obviously do what you want with your costume, I think you will find that the overwhelming majority choose not to go the "birthday circuit" route, and I don't recommend advertising any 501st or FISD affiliation if you decide to do this and advertise your services. I've heard some horror stories of folks trooping alone... Being purposely tripped, having articles stolen, (TDs, etc.), punched, (by kids), , adult birthday parties- (alcohol + costumed characters = bad news) and the list goes on. When you troop alone, there is no one to watch your back, and things can get out of hand faster than you think, which is why going solo is frowned upon. Do you have your 501st ID number yet? If so, you can check the local Garrison/Squad for official activities in your area, and believe me, it's always more fun (and much safer) to troop with a group, even if it is a small one.
TK 2759[501st]
A question better answered by a Garrison CO/XO... Although Joseph got it too. Edited January 20, 2016 by TK 2759
redking1
Thank's Just Joseph. Agreeably yes i too have heard horror stories. So maybe the best option is not to look into it, It was just an idea as i have been asked multiple times,But i forgot how many stories i have read where trooper's armour have been stolen, damaged etc. No i don't have an ID number yet,I am almost finishing off my TD with proper pauldren, boots and sides. Thanks for the info.

crashmann[501st]
Ultimately, the best advice is to check with the leadership of your local garrison and find out their stance on the issue. My garrison does accept requests for birthday parties, and we have not encountered any malicious behavior. However, we always direct folks to the official 501st "request an appearance" page: http://www.501st.com/request.php We then ask them to send a donation to a charity of their choosing, with a nod of appreciation to the 501st Legion. Most of our birthday party appearances are very brief, maybe 30 minutes in armor to surprise the kids (or adults), pose for a few photos, then we're done. We never participate in Jedi training lightsaber battles, as that is the gateway to broken armor. Also, we're in and out before the kids get all sugared up on cake and ice cream! The best part is how happy and excited the kids are to see Star Wars characters in real life, at their home! Charlie
redking1
Thank's Crashmann. In the future i will redirect them towards the 501st page. As i really don't want to start anything i might get in trouble with, such as stolen armour etc. Thank's for all the advice guys
hon143
From what I've seen personally at school events and Halloween, ppl here are totally right. When you have a costume on, it makes both kids AND adults think they can do whatever they want to you.

Hence, employees in costume in amusement parks always have escorts with them nowadays to watch out for the ppl in costume.

On Halloween, I had a few guys just walk up to me and bang on my bucket or armor! A-holes!
