Tony and Adam, thank you for sharing your thoughts and findings. It's best to discuss it now before EIB and Centurion application. It will also help ESB builders down the road. We're taking EIB photos tomorrow night. :)

Hello Andy, the ANH blaster (Hyperfirm from Lewis) came with a M32 scope. It had to replaced.

The M32 for all intents and purposes is the same as an M19. They are used interchangeably and I wouldn't be surprised if the M32 appears throughout the two movies. In fact, the CRL SHOULD say "M19/M32" to reflect that the M32 is completely acceptable to Centurion level and, indeed, preferable over an M38 for ESB.

See, for instance: http://www.partsofsw.com/e11guide.htm

Andy, I don't write the CRL. We are following the requirements to meet our EIB and Centurion goal for ESB. You can present your finding to command staff when you're ready. I'm sure they can assist.

I was simply trying to help you out on your build by letting you know that people use M19s and M32s interchangeably and either would be fine for Centurion (even if the CRL isn't very clear on that). The M19 and the M32 are essentially the same scope. With that said, are you going to sell your M32 as I will be building an ESB, too? :P

Appreciate your thoughts.  However, the scope went to another team build.   =)

More information on the ESB handplates.

In the beginning, we had to understand the CRL for ESB hand plate requirements and research many scenes from the movie.

We came to conclusion that they are many different ESB hand plate shapes shown (in the movie).  We don't think a standard stencil was used within the Lucasfilm costume department.

During our research, we also noticed that the biceps didn't have any evidence of the "J-hooks and bicep straps" (unlike the ANH TKs).

The ESB hand plates are the same on all troopers. Some may be wearing them on opposite hands or the trimming may vary, but they are the same. There is a specific left and right shape.

With regards to how they are attached, they were all sewn on to black cotton/lycra gloves with the exception of the MKII troopers (seen cuffing Chewie) that wear rubber gloves and they have an elastic loop across the palm. The hand plate on the MKII is strapped to the wrist of the armour.

The shoulder bells do have an elastic bicep strap exactly as in ANH since they are refurbished ANH suits.

Hello Paul, thank you for chiming in and sharing the knowledge.   Its always a joy to have a veteran builder and legendary armor maker visit us.      This helps us all understand more about the ESB Stormtrooper.

Hey Guys.....This is Omar.    Thank you to Walter, Jay, and Kris for helping me with my TK build.     I've done five troops so far and looking forward to more troop missions with the legion.    I'm getting to submit my Expert Infantry application soon.

I took his comment on 'different shapes' to mean they were cut out differently.  While the mold appears to be the same, the cut of the outer edge appears pretty distinct on all of them.

Also, does anyone have any better understanding of this 'star pattern' thing in the CRL?  So far, it looks like most of them have two loops sewn in at the top, and then two loops on either side of the wrist... other than the guy who has a lot of extra holes, I haven't seen more than that in a screenshot, and his handplate's extra holes weren't sewn down.  Nothing appears to be star shaped.

Bill, do you have a build thread so we can assist with your questions?    This would be helpful.   Thank you.

No.  To be honest, I don't understand the 'build thread' concept.  When I have questions, they're part specific, so I post part specific threads.  I did so earlier (you posted in it), but it hasn't gotten much response.  I don't really see why I would post pictures of, for example, the same helmet everyone else is doing when it doesn't help me or anyone else to look at that again when the real discussion I'm interested in reading is all hand plate related. :)

There was discussion here, complete with references, so I hopped in on it, but I don't mean to derail the thread so everyone is welcome back over on my handplate thread if you wanna talk handplates.  Or elsewhere.  I don't really care, I'm more interested in sorting out the proper handplate arrangement than forum thread structuring.

I understand where the five sets of holes are, according to 501st enthusiasts... I even found shots of the one guy who seems to have five sets of holes... what I haven't found are shots of a TK with all five holes sewn down, or for that matter, more than just the one particularly battered trooper who has the set of five instead of the set of three that appears to be all the others have.

I can even understand how, at a trooping event, having the plates be more secure would be desirable.

I just haven't seen support for it in production photos of the troopers.

I'm already in the 501st, so I don't particularly care what the CRL says at this point, but I assume that in creating it, there was some research done that explains this 5-point connection, so I'm trying to figure out what they were looking at.

How many sets of armor did they use is ESB? What did those suits look like on day 1 of filming vs. 7 months later when it wrapped? Also most films aren't shot chronologically so what part of the movie that your doing screen grabs could have been filmed at any point during filming. Basically all of March 1979 they filmed in Norway, so no TK's there but April through September at Elstree unless you have copies of the dailies you won't know what's going on here. I understand wanting to be completely accurate but the production would have thought of the TK's as barely above a "featured extra" while filming and therefore there armor would have barely received any more attention other than "are all the pieces there?" And so while filming the first scene they may have been all sewn but by the time it wrapped I'm sure they were pretty tatty. At this point it's splitting hairs. I'm not trying to upset anyone but two pages of hand plate discussion seems a bit much. The point of the 501st is to strive to be accurate to the films, but more importantly it doing good in our communities. Only you will care if there are 3 1/2 out of 5 sewn and I can truly appreciate that. But that kids who sees you walk into the cancer ward or birthday party just sees the most amazing thing they have ever seen and it's not the stitches on your hand plates. Sorry for the rant as I see it your kit is amazing and I only hope that mine is 1/2 as good once it's done. Cheers!

Omar and I met up this weekend and completed a few areas for his Expert Infantry application.

1. Painted thigh ammo pack rivet white.

2. Show close up neck seal details.
