WANTED: Cheap option for helmet fans

Recommended Posts

I've already bought all the parts necessary to build my own fan system :(

No worries. If you are putting together something similar to what I have, you will have the same set up as many vet troopers and you will be fine. No issues here in 12 months of trooping with it.

you can rig up a couple 12v blower fans, easily found on ebay or amazon and set up a 12v battery (rechargable units, also found on ebay (aka blue packs)) or use a 9v to run them. a rechargable 12v lith ion batter lasts about 4 hours with the fan running all the time. a 9v will last about 1 hour...maybe. 6-8 aa or aaa batteries will last about 2 hours. it depends on how long you want them to run, how much space you want to use up in the helmet, ease of changing batteries if needed, or if you just want a one time charge and run all day set up. i have 2 fans and 2 separate 12v lith ion packs in my tx helmet. i use one for many hours and when it starts going out, i switch on the other one. doing that, i have about 8 hours of fan....and less noise going, :-)

I run 2 squirrel fans, opted for 5volt and get a good 6+ hours of run time off 4 rechargeable AA batteries hooked in series.

I pulled apart my drone this weekend due to me crashing it into a car( dont ask) has a 5 volt lithium ion battery. So far I can get about 2 hours out of it pushing two evil boy fans. I made my own bracket too. Now I just need "voice"

I have a few 5v fans left that work with a on /off rocker switch powered by 4aa batteries.

. Pm me if you are still looking for fans. I have them on ebay

I did just that! Bought all the parts on eBay and assembled them myself. It's a fun little project!

I know it could be some what time consuming but i love doing it ... im working on my prototype of 2 5v blower fans powered by a 9v/12v battery with a on/off switch .. some people like to have them individually powered on but ill see how it goes with mine.

Curious if anyone has used something like this (seems to skip needing to connect the switch) and connect direct to a fan:

Hi Matt i initially thought of using that but it seems easier to power the fan by a on off rocker switch http://www.ebay.com/itm/181934453731this is a link so you can see pictures of my fan kits
