In Memoriam: Janice Decker ID-5259

On the 9th of April, 2015 Janice Decker (ID 5259) of the MidSouth Garrison passed away after a brief but fierce battle with leukemia. As a respected member of MosNooga, Janie was considered the Squad’s Grandma. Always happy and full of life, Janie’s vibrant smile and joyful demeanor allowed all those who came to know her feel like family.

It is with great pride that we enter Janice Decker into the Hall of Eternal Legionaries.

Buckets off troopers.

Legacy Trooper CRL Going Green

Yes the FISD has completed the CRL for the Female Legacy Trooper.

The Legacy Trooper has caught on with the Legion really well and we see many females joining the ranks of the FISD in style!

The Legacy Trooper has quite a bit of history from early reasearching of the original comic books to the statue figure adaptation of Jes Gistang.

The research was started in 2011 by Paul (Daetrin) and it is amazing to see how far we have come. For the full research thread: Legacy Stormtrooper Jest Gistang Research Thread

Celebration Anaheim

So who went to Celebration Anaheim?

Saying that Celebration Anaheim was great is an understatement. Not only did we get to see the new TFA (The Force Awakens) Stormtroopers but we got to see the unveiling of the second trailer for the new Star Wars film.

The cast was there and so was BB-8! And did you hear the shock and awe from the crowd and BB-8 literally rolled down the stage? We also got to view upclose on screen used variants of the new troopers of the First Order troopers such as the Flametroopers and the Snowtroopers! Not forgetting the annoucement of the next spinoff film as well: Rogue One. Looks like we haven't seen the last of classic Original Trilogy props and costumes.

Seeing so many new things that yet feels familiar together with others beings about an amazing feeling. The FISD made a blast especially showing up in our new TFA Stormtrooper outfits for the first time. With that many Stormtroopers around the FISD kept peace and order around the convention. The Emperor will be pleased.

There was a great turnout for the FISD and a photo was taken with Legion Founder Albin Johnson and Stormtrooper Armor Sculptor Brian Muir.

The Advanced Tactics division of the FISD were also present and they wore their armor with great pride.

No matter our differences and arguments we all love the same thing. And that makes us a family.

...unless you're a Rebel scum.

There can never be too many Stormtroopers

What a great time for the FISD. We didn't have to wait for The Force Awakens to be out and wait even longer for new Stormtrooper armor. We already have access to them!

Before Celebration Anovos approached the Legion with the opportunity to acquire the first 50 TFA Stormtrooper suits to be debuted for the first time during Celebration. Those who wearing wearing the armor to Celebration had a short time frame to build the suit to be worn at Celebration. But their hardwork resulted in an astounding success. Our troopers even got to be on the stage with JJ Abrams, Kathleen Kenedy and both old and new casts of Star Wars!

Lucasfilm provided two screen-used suits on mannequins to be displayed at Celebration. It's as accurate as you can get!

Don't forget to view some TFA Stormtrooper build threads if you wish you acquire one but are not sure how to build it.

TFA Stormtrooper Build Threads

According to Vanity Fair the new TFA Stormtroopers are indeed the bad guys and that is good news for the FISD! The FISD will be in charge for of completing the CRL for the new Stormtroopers.

In fact the CRL is already being discussed and built as this article is being written!

This month TK-73511 Clive Barzillia shares about his experience as a Yellow Stormtrooper. Yes you heard that right. Here's a picture:

But why? Read on to find out...

Clive:

On Friday the 6th of March I suited up in the Yellow Armour for the first time in public for an event that happens all over the UK called Big Yellow Friday. I was supported by the UK Garrison to help many BYF volunteers raising awareness and money in Birmingham City Centre for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF).

Our son Isaac, was born with a rare liver disease, biliary atresia, in which bile accumulates in the liver causing irreparable scarring and liver failure. At 5 months Isaac suffered liver failure and desperately needed a transplant. After diagnosis and being entered on the transplant list, it was a matter of hours before Birmingham Children's Hospital found Isaac a new liver through the organ donation register and saved his life.

That was in 2010 and now, 5 years later he is doing amazingly well.

One of the most important aspects of newborn liver disease is early diagnosis. It’s very important to detect the condition within 30 days after birth. The CLDF’s campaign called Yellow Alert promotes this early detection. To help this campaign I decided to combine our family’s love of Star Wars and all things UKG to build a Stormtrooper in the CLDF colour of bright yellow.

This first official outing for the yellow armour was an amazing experience, drawing crowds of people to ask “Why is that trooper yellow??†Normally in a squad of white troopers, such attention is for the group not for the individual. The Armour stands out in the sunshine and definitely works to promote the campaign. The Transplant Games is the next planned event.

The armour is Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (ANH) 'Stunt' and has been built to the UKG standards of clearance. I was supported in my build by the generosity of Andy Rogers (BFA), Clothears Costumes and Karin Sonnenschein.

I would like to thank: the other troopers for signing up to the event, the UK Garrison for all their support and promotion and the CLDF for allowing me to represent the Yellow alert. As a fellow UKG member I'm extremely proud to be part of the group.

UKG members present:

  • TK 49714 – Antoni James
  • DZ 5473 – Paul Roberts
  • TS 26714 – Rob WiIlcock
  • AR 3440 – Ashley Broomhall
  • TK 6727 -Darren Phelps
