What do you do for a crust?

I though this would be a thread already but I searched a few pages back and couldn't see anything so here it is.

I find it very interesting to know what people do for work outside of their Star Wars fantasy. As been mentioned before some of you are servicemen or ex-servicemen in the army/police/etc. I am also constantly intrigued with random occupations. All of us are different and do different things. Please share if you will!

Lets be honest this is in no way a cheap hobby. Those who are good with money will always find a cheaper better way, but for most of us, time is the most costly commodity. Would love to hear some stories of the balancing acts you do with your life and The Empire.. :)

Myself - I'm a full time DJ. I work 4-5 nights a week and spend most the week digging for music and dreaming about Star Wars. Since music went digital, I spend a lot of time online, which is bad, but also allows me to trawl the interwebs a bit. Before that I managed retail stores for 15 years.

I also work for a magazine called 'Sneaker Freaker' once a week in an office looking after the e-commerce side of the business. You can probably work out what the magazine is about.

So thats me in a nutshell! Your turn! :)

I'm a Lance Corporal in the danish army with two tours in Afghanistan, one in Kosovo and one in the Somali basin. Currently preparing to go to Iraq one of theese days in a support role for the USMC already deployed there.

I have sort of a "tradition" where I buy a new armor after each deployment, since thats the only time I really have the money for it. I always joke about that my hobby is Government funded, because of this ;)

I am currently a Master Sergeant in the United States Army.

I began my career with dreams of being in radio (DJing/broadcasting, etc..) so I started in that field, working with Single Sideband Radios, Teletype Systems, and Satellite communications systems. (I had a touchscreen in 1991 - we're talking high tech here. ;) )

I took a short break to go to school, and after nine months realized that I needed to be back in the Army, so I went back to the recruiter's offices and when I went to the processing station they told me that I could not have my old job back. That was fine with me, but I wanted a "nice" job this time, something that didn't crawl around the woods so much. They offered me five different jobs: Stinger Operator (which meant I'd be crawling in the woods); Bradley Fighting Vehicle Crewman (which meant I would drive out to the woods, where I could then crawl around a lot); Trombone Player (I was all for that. They didn't feel like teaching me to play however, so that didn't happen); Satellite Communications Systems Repairer - which I was all over, but after I said I'd take it, they told me I couldn't have that job, because of the required contract length; and finally Air Traffic Controller. My immediate thought process went like this: Well, they use radios, so they have to have air conditioning. I guess they make pretty good money in the "real" world. You can't land a plane in the woods. I'll take it!! The rest, is history.

I was an Air Traffic Controller (by trade, if not position) from 1994 up until 2012 when I was promoted out of that job, and I became an Aviation Operations Specialist.

My current position is a liaison position with the Federal Aviation Administration.

Haha, nice to know the Army is the same all around the world :D

I work for an engineering consulting company in the municipal water/wastewater field.

Mostly doing SCADA systems integration (programming PLCs and HMIs). With that always comes mountains of paperwork and technical documentation development. :/

I do on-site construction administration as well, you wouldn't believe some of the sh*t I've seen at water treatment plants :P haha

Anyone ever approached you with prescription green lenses for their lid?

Not yet....I just recently joined here and never mentioned it to anyone yet.

But, I was just thinking about it and I think it would be a better idea for someone to use an old pair of glasses with their correct prescription. Then, remove the side temples and strap the eyeglasses to the lens area inside the bucket with velcro.

Because, if you only use green prescription lenses to attach to the bucket, the size and base curve of the prescription lenses may not fit the eye opening on the bucket. Tinting the prescription lenses the correct color wouldn't be hard.....just fitting it over the eye opening on the bucket may be an issue.

Or, remove the prescription lenses on an old pair of glasses (with current prescription) and just attach it inside the bucket behind the green lenses. Just make sure the orientation of the lenses are correct. If you have astigmatism, the exact orientation of the lenses will matter.
