Ricks AM Armor

Recommended Posts

Hey anyone viewing,  I'm back.  My wife grounded me and had to work on my armor in secret when I had the chance.

So here is where i'm at right now (with questions ^_^ )

Thermal Detonator

I glued the center piece I just dont know if the TD clips go as shown in the picture or touching the end caps.

I've seen both ways but I don't know if there has been one enforeced. (magnets are just to hold while I take the pic)

Also, will these screws work?

20141005_190643.jpg?t=1412564178

On the plus side!

I was able to glue the cover strips on the right forearm, with some struggle.

and crossing my fingers that the left one would stay

20141005_190801.jpg?t=1412564093

I was able to add my sniper plate

20140929_220453.jpg

and my thigh ammo pack

Some struggles

I made the mistake of using elastic on my thighs to connect to my belt, I had to take them off and made new ones with nylon webbing.

One of my shoulder bells was drooping from adding the bicep, also I was having problems with movement of my arm because the elastic on the bells was too tight.

I trimmed down the return edges a bit.  This is a pic with the bell on the left is trimmed.

Last but not least for the update

Im finishing up on my blaster  (sorry for blurry pic, had to take it before I got cought, lol)

I can already see a struggle with my cover strip on my left forearm lol. Not having those flat edges really makes it a little difficult to properly place the strips flat. Curious to see how yours turns out. Ill be moving onto forearm cover strips tomorrow on my build. I am also using those same screws on the TD clips. You will want your clips to be lined up more with the caps of the TD though.

I wont tell.

Looking good Rick! What kind of rivets did you use for the thigh ammo pack?

I'm in the same place as Andrew on the forearm cover strips. I've been putting them off.

Good looking out :P

Regarding the rivets, Andrew is correct.  You can get them through Echo along with the rivets needed for your ab plate: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/23970-fs-centurion-level-rivet-sets/

Regarding the forearms, I was planning on putting them off as well.  I must have used a little more than half tube of E6000 trying different methods.  I think making a curve in the center like Mike discovered: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/28145-am-20-build-anh-stunt-by-rystan/page-8

Could also use a heat gun and try to soften the plastic a bit and flatten it out a hair. Im going to see how mine comes out first, ill be the second test subject after Mike on this matter lol

I tried heating it up a bit, but as a rookie I think I heated the middle a bit more and it drooped.  I panicked and just stopped messing with it, so I just put it to the side until now.

Update:

I added the clips to the TD, hope I did it right.

The clip placement looks good; with little or no gap between the the clips & caps. . The one thing I am not sure of is if your TD tube is really long or the end caps are trimmed short. There is lot of space between the TD panel and the caps. just an observation. The RS TD i have has less spacing so it seems shorter perhaps in comparison. Nice job adding the black screws.

You are doing great. Your armor is looking awesome and the finish line is near! Best of luck!

Looks a little spacey there bro. Whats the total length on your TD from end cap to end cap? From what I have read, it should be between 7.25" and 7.50" according to Steve(Gazmosis), and in the reference photos, the TD is shown to be a little over 7.50"

From my understanding, and I could very well be wrong, you want that gap to be around 1/2". I ended up taking a bit off of my TD tube to get to where I am at. Once I get home I will update it with pics and using a ruler much like you did

I'm going to wait to fix the tube, I think i'm go have to trim it to 7.25 in order to scoot in the clips and screws inward.

So here is my left forearm.

I took a zoom pic so you can see the spot I think I missed holding down with magnets..  It's not too noticeable but the more I look at it, it starts to look huge.

I'm gluing the snap here but this is the front view of the left forearm.

Besides that, I was working on the arm connections for the right side.  I wanted to show the elastic strap connecting the bicep to the forearm and ask if its correct but I don't think you can see it (that would be the point right? ^_^ )

This is the right side, just took a mirror pic.

What do you guys think?

You'll want to use double cap rivets, or speed rivets. 7mm head diameter with a 8 mm post length

Good looking out :P

Regarding the rivets, Andrew is correct.  You can get them through Echo along with the rivets needed for your ab plate: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/23970-fs-centurion-level-rivet-sets/

Ah sweet, I've got double cap rivets on hand. That's a lucky break.

I think I'm going to try heat on the forearm cover strips. I may go the oven route instead of the heat gun, since it allows a little more control. I tend to overheat stuff in a hurry with a heat gun. Or come to think of it, a heat sealing iron may do the trick.

The strap should be located here if you want to be more accurate:

Thanks, Fixed.

Ok so here is my belt,  I haven't attached the drop boxes yet because I want to make sure they are on the right spot.  i'm planning on allign the edge of the box to the edge of the plastic on the belt.  Is that correct?  I've heard to allign it there and heard align it to the circle tabs.

i'm also planning on leaving about 5mm of space between the belt and the boxes.

Alright so I decided to attack the ab and kidney, I've been really worried about this part since there's no going back and my deadline is coming up full speed ahead.

I wore a bright yellow shirt to show the top view area better.

Here are my final cuts.

Right Side

Left Side (sorry for potato quality)

20141012_140223.jpg?t=1413062173

and this is the top view.

(I had a problem with the bottom being snug and the top part being open enough to get both of my hands in with extra room.)

Here is a front view.

20141012_140324.jpg?t=1413148316

I'm going to begin doing the measurements for the split rivets and the square cuts for the bottom corners of the kidney.

Hopefully someone experienced can check this out before I start to do the holes in case of any errors.

These are the measurements I will be using.

10mm from top, bottom, and side.

146mm is the measurement between them

146%2 = 73mm between split rivets

so here is an attempt to show with some lines.

20141012_163409.jpg?t=1413157379

Does this sound about right?

I ended up doing 15mm for top and bottom

138 is the measurement between them

leaving 69mm between split rivets.

So I installed the ab rivets, now just want to make sure that the square on the kidney is 22mm in measurement.

Here is a pic of the rivets and square outline.

Weekend update:

I finished the ab/kidney join and did the square cuts.  As I was putting on my belt, the plastic had too much pressure and popped out of the rivets . I didn't know I had to also heat bend the plastic. I'm hoping to use bigger rivets, heat shape it and may be now add those snaps to join the ab plate.

I need to go buy more elastic to make new shoulder bell/strap connections.  With the weight from the forearms and biceps, they pull it down more.  I also need the elastic for my hand plates.

Anyone know if I can meet Basic Approval once I take care of the belt and hand plates?

Here are some update pics.
