Correct EIB strapping method

Recommended Posts

my first build is here.. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/27158-my-first-armor-build-thread-anh-s-cap-armor/

Im going for EIB status blaitenly because i dont have the $$ for a replica blaster, however with this being my first build i am in need to know what rivets go where, what snaps go where, how to even assemble the strapping, what elastic snaps to what and what the heck is a clam shell? haha

noobie help needed thank you and photo references would be great!

Not sure what you mean by that one Kyle. For EIB you still need, as a minimum, an upgraded Hasbro kit with folding stock, etc. Have you already got a blaster or will you be building one?

Just check here. It has the blaster requirements, together with some of the rivet placements too. You will need the Doopy Doos (or similar) upgrade for EIB. Basic Hasbro blaster doesn't have any of the top 5 requirements.

Let's put it once and for all, even if all these informations can be found in the CRL, aren't relevant for EIB , and are extremely easy to find by looking at the Centurion applications...

-You need 6 split rivets with a 8mm head (5/16") on the left side of your armor. 3 on the abdominal plate and 3 on the kydney plate:

http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/26886-split-rivet-placement/

-You need 1 split rivet with a 8mm head (5/16") on the crotch tab of the cod.

-You need 2 male snap on the crotch tab of the butt plate.

-You need 1 male snap on the upper right corner of the abdominal plate:

- You need 2 CAP rivets (=speed rivets) with a 7mm head (9/32") to affix the ammo belt on the right thigh:

See your build thread for pictures

And that's all the rivets/snaps you need in order to get CENTURION. You can do whatever you want for the rest as long as they're not visible from the outside.

I reckon the main meaning of "clamshell" is the torso (chest, cod, back, kidney, but) all stapped together, forming a clamshell.

Kyle - I'm sure you've got it sorted, but earler you mentioned you DIDN'T have a folding stock, but you DID have the doopys kit. The doopy's kit comes with the folding stock (although it doesn't fold), so I'm not sure exactly what you do have and whether it is good for EIB. Post pics of what you've got if you're not sure.

First, follow what Germain posted above. As far as what is required (for Centurion) by way of rivets and snaps, that covers it. 3 split rivets on the left side of the abdomen; 3 matching split rivets on the left side of the kidney plate. Use this thread for reference:

http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/26886-split-rivet-placement/

One split rivet in the crotch with two male snaps on the butt plate as pictured above. One male snap in the upper right corner of the abdomen. Visually, that is all that is required. The split rivets don't even need to anchor anything -- they can be ornamental if you wish.

And don't forget the cap rivets on the edges of the right thigh ammo pack.

As for strapping, that is a matter of choice unless you want true screen accurate strapping. In my experience, most troopers strap for fit and function, not screen accuracy, but if you want acreen accurate, there are guys here who can steer you. Look at the picture submissions on the Centurion build pages, even if you only are going EIB. You will see examples of how guys are strapping their kits. See if your local garrison has any armor parties scheduled too. As a genereal rule you will see:

-ab plate and kidney strapped together with the split rivets on the left side of the torso creating the "clamshell"

-butt plate strapped to kidney plate

-kidney plate strapped to back

-back strapped to the chest over the shoulders (white elastic)

-chest strapped to the abdomen

-strap under the crotch from butt plate to ab plate

-shoulder strapped to chest/back strap

-strap on lower shoulder around arm

-strap from shoulder to bicep

-strap from bicep to forearm

-strap from thigh to ab plate or to a belt (i.e. a garter system)

I probably missed one or two. Check out the pics in those Centurion applications here:

http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/

And use this as a GUIDELINE when deciding what kind of elastic to buy:

http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/26477-what-we-know-about-strapping-snaps-rivets-etc/?hl=%2Bbelt+%2Brivet

Does that help?

If your question is how to strap, that's another story. I recommend making snap plates, but other people can chime in on that.

We probably don't need to go into it again. It's been discussed quite a few times. One thread below.

http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/18412-blasters-optional/

Basically, they're optional for Basic approval, but mandatory for EIB or Centurion.

Yeah, I raised it myself a few months ago and it does keep getting raised unfortunately. It would be nice if the powers to be could put a little "Mandatory for level 2 & 3" statement somewhere in the CRLs.
