Trooper Boots, a List of Suitable Candidates

Recommended Posts

Hi all

As I understand it, there seem to be some difficulties in finding suitable Boots for Stormtroopers, now that TK boots, most unfortunately, do not have a steady supply (at least thats what I understand).

I have compiled a small selection of boots that meet the standards, and at the same time are high quality boots.

It puzzles me, that people seem willing to pay only very little for boots. I fully appreciate that we all want to save money, but paying a lot of money for weapons, and not to mention how much we are willing to part with when it comes to lids, armour etc, is no problem. Paying 200$ and more for a pair of boots, on the other hand seems a big deal to a lot of people.

The way I see it, boots that are better crafted will last longer, some of them look very much like the originals as well, and they are simply a pleasure to wear. Ihave not trooped much, but I know a lot about marching, and I believe that trooping takes a lot of walking.

A lot of walking calls for proper footwear, so why not pay the extra money, and have very high quality, throughout the entire "costume".. ( I see it more as a uniform than costume:-))..from "top to toe" ..?

This is the list, all of them meet the standards and will pass for both EIB and Centurion, but none come in white. They all have Goodyear welted leathersoles and they will need a paintjob. Angelus is the thing to use (that is what I used on mine).

Loake 290, RRP 160£+shipping, can sometimes be found used on ebay quite cheap, found here:

http://www.andersonsofdurham.com/en/mens-shoes/loake-shoes/loake-290.html, WELCOM10 or WELCOME10 is a 10% off code.

John White chelsea boot, RRP169£+shipping, seen on ebay at 89£, found here:

Regent Jodphur boots, 96£+shipping, found here:

The next ones are Danish Military issue. They are produced by a company in Portugal. I have been talking to the company the last three days, and unfortunately they normally don't sell to private individuals.

They look like this:

Edit November 2013: Adding two aditional pairs of boots to the list. These are not of the same standards qualitywise, but they are basic CRL cleared, whether or not they will pass for EIB and Centurion I am not aware.

Bass Amsterdam chelsea boots, RRP found here:

Or Lands End Fulton chelsea boots, RRP 95$, found here:

http://www.landsend.com/products/mens-fulton-chelsea-boots/id_228833

Edit June 2015: Found these referred to in another thread, good looking boots at a fair price, and both EIB and CENT certifiable:

What Angelus  paint did you use?

Flat white or white?

Hey

I haven't used it yet, as it is still in the mail. I have checked an Angelus colourchart, and there is only one white.

I think TM painted his originals with Angelus, you can see a pic of them here:

Did you order from http://angelusdirect.com ?

And if so what did you give for shipping?
Live in Sweden myself so if you've got a good place to buy it please share.

Edit:
Just ordered a pair of Loake boots from http://www.andersonsofdurham.com WELCOM10 or WELCOME10 is a 10% code (can't remember but i think it's the first) 149.95 GBP, 22 GBP shipping to Sweden. Maybe add that link to the OP because they seem to ship everywhere whereas the Loake site does not.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Congrats on your Loakes, if you have never owned a pair of handcrafted shoes you are in for a treat....they are lovely.

I only have shoes from Loake and the likes, and I will never go back. Some of them are 7 years old, and you cant tell they have been worn except for the soles naturally, that show signs of wear, but they have not been resoled yet.

I bought the Angelus paint on ebay, from a vendor in Scotland...

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Trainerspy?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 shipping was 4£ (standard intl. Shipping), and 118 ml. Cost 9.99£

Thanks for the info on the Loake site, and the 10 off...will include it in the beginning..I know that Herring Shoes sell them as well, and they ship worldwide....

Hej David

Korrekt Søren(Sören)

Er du i Nordic Garison, eller som jag, en "prospect"?

Like I said, handcrafted shoes are fantastic, and they last a lifetime, a bit stiff in the beginning due to the nature of the construction...

Click this link to see how they are made: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_W7_hPugqro

I have not noticed that there were different ones.....I could only see WHITE and NEUTRAL on the colourchart at Trainerspy.....I would go for the satin highgloss though, to avoid them ending up looking like white patent leather or plastic......

Jag är en "prospect", Köpt TM rustning, så hoppas på att gå med i Nordic Garrison när den är klar :)

Here is the source of the 10% btw https://twitter.com/AndersonsDurham/status/366202287338700800

I'll buy White and Satin highgloss then, and hope they come out nice.

Seeing more nordics that really care about accuracy and quality makes my cold and bitter heart warm up a little. :)

Keep at it and you will be NG members in no-time.

  • 2 weeks later...

I know stormtrooper costumes does not work for 501st guidelines , what about their boots do they work?

Nope!, no, nein, not, njet, iee....:-)..those are called Mariachi boots.....try and take a look at the CRL,s or at the boots in this thread...they have to look like those.......link to CRL is here:

Thanks , I stared at them for 30 minutes and couldn't see the difference

For real?..:-).. The ones on stormtrooper-costumes clearly has several stitchings on the front, a quite high heel, and no elastic band in the sides of the boot, which all are definate no go's....if the ones you find look like the ones in this thread then you are in he clear:-).. A lot can be found used cheap on ebay, and goodyear welted, handcrafted shoes will last forever ( I speak out of experience as I own numerous pairs of shoes/boots with this type of construction, and some of them are more than 8 years old, and they still look very new).

I have to agree with SorenM if you are going to put down the work and do the boots, buy a good pair because if you are trooping you are going to be walking a lot.

Thnx David, the amount of walking that Trooping takes is the main reason why I advocate high quality shoes....:-)
