As requested in the EIB Thread, I changed the needed things to go for centurion. Hopefully it meets the expectations.

Hi Tom

I am currently reviewing your application for Centurion status.

It is a good standard and form fitting build that we like to see.

Can I ask you to look into a few areas please.

You front crotch piece has the wrong fitting in it.
Can you change this out for a stud.

You are missing a second snap in the lower butt plate area

Can I see a picture of your bicep straps?

Can you look into why your knee plate is not aligned correctly with the shin tops please.
If you have used E6000, you may be able to align it a bit higher, especially as one side appears lower than the other side.

I will take advice on your microphones that you have inserted into your Hovi Mics and get back to you.

I will also consult regarding your nice but non standard blaster mods.

In the mean time, you have a couple of easy adjustments to make.

Hi Phil,

thank you for your quick answer. Here's a picture of the arm strapping.

I hope this one is ok. The other things you mentioned (second snap and stud at the crotch piece) should be no problem.

Except of the kneeplate. It was positioned as shown to be straight at center view. The whole knee including the kneeplate was glued with loctite454. So it's almost impossible to change that in an easy way without damaging it. AFAIK there were movie-armors of the same kind concerning the kneeplate.

However, if this is a problem please tell me. I fully understand if it doesn't meet the requirements for centurion and therefore I won't get it.

Regards, Tom

Hi Tom,

I have consulted with a group of centurions and the results are as follows.

We are clearing your blaster.

We need to see a close up of your Hovi mics tips, and we don't want to see the speakers in them.

You can either remove them for the application, or use better mesh, or put standard hovis in.

We need to see a close up of your thigh ammo pack.

Make sure you are using close to 8mm split rivets or cap rivets that look correct from the outside.

Your nearly there, please make the recommended changes and the centurion award is soon to follow.

Just chiming in real quick since I built this suit.

The knee is installed in a perfectly screen accurate way.

Checking my references, these are just two of many ANH screen-seen TKs with knee placement way more off than what I replicated on Tom's suit:

9152355039_9f948497d1_o.jpg

That's how screen accurate knee parts tend to sit if you line them up to be straight looking head-on at the shins.

For a program like Centurion, shouldn't screen TKs be the be-all-end-all reference? Just something for y'all to think about.

Not intent on starting yet another "FISD and screen accuracy" discussion here, but denying Centurion status because of a slightly crooked knee that clearly has lineage to what we see in the movie?
Yeah, after endless discussions about allowing FX for Centurion, this kinda sits wrong with me and the "let's do things like they were on the actual movie costumes" crowd...

No doubt about the rivets though, those should be replaced. Tom will do that as soon as he sourced the correct kind/size split rivets. Not the easiest of tasks here in Germany.

Aloha Tom...I had seen the 'making off' of your application pics :D ....good luck with your request. My opinion is the only thing, except the points that Phil has listed, that you need to add is the 2nd snap at the butt plate. Because of the sniper plate, I agree with Dennis...it's like the screen caps....but Dennis....what you've done?!??!...tstststs  :D  :P

All in all, you have a great gear...I'm shure that you in the ranks soon. ^_^

Yeah don't worry. It's all minor stuff that you can fix without much problem. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just found some time last 2 weeks to do almost all of the recommended changes. Here they are:

Crotch / Buttplate:

Added a second snap at the buttplate and changed the rivet at crotch piece with a split rivet provided by Echo

p4wc97xx17hp.jpg

Thigh ammo pack:

Changed the former rivets to cap rivets provided by Echo and painted them white

Mic Tips:

replaced mic tips incl. speakers with the original ones

I tried to change the position of the kneeplate, too, but it almost broke by attempt because of the used loctite. So I decided to leave it as it is. Like Dennis already posted, there were Movie-Troopers with the same kind of knee-placement.

I hope you agree with the changes I made and wait for your feedback.

Regards, Tom

Congrats, Tom! And welcome to the ranks.

One last thing: There were screen-used troopers with one or two male snaps in the butt plate, but never with 2 female snaps on the corresponding elastic (according to my reference, that is).
So all you had to do was add an additional snap on the butt plate, NOT the elastic. The one on the elastic is supposed to be snapped into one of the two male snaps on that butt armour, counter-intuitive as that might be.

Oh well. ;)
