The 2013 Challenge!

The Mayan Apocalypse didn't seem to happen, at least not in any way we're aware of...

So that means another NEW YEAR is on the way!

I'm looking for a few good volunteers who are making some serious costuming resolutions for this year. If you volunteer, you will be "tracked" for follow-up throughout the year until you achieve success.

Your resolution can be anything - from upgrading that yellow FX suit to a shiny new one and taking it to Centurion standards - or turning that old FX suit into a world-class Death Trooper or something truly funky like the Brony TK... - or building one of every approved type of TK - OR it could be non-TK related, but 501st-related, like hand-crafting the best Darth Malgus suit on the planet... (wait, that's my goal... pwahaha) - or making a whole new costume or three from scratch. It could be taking sewing lessons and challenging yourself to design a new costume and make it, or building a vacuum form machine and crafting new parts for E-11s and other costumes. OR, it could be building an AT-AT bunk bed (safely) for your kid or an Ewok tree house... OR genetically engeineering a live Rancor - or starting or raising money for a charity, or orchestrating a huge charity event of your dreams ... okay we are getting away from costuming but you get the idea.

I'm looking for a few volunteers who already plan to take on a challenge, preferably something that truly is a challenge... the crazier the better, but of interest to the community here at FISD. Ideally it is something done in stages, that you can take a photo of now and then, so we can show your progress in Newsletters and what-not.

Post here or PM me if interested. No idea is too crazy.

My goal is to get my husband in an approved costume and to one troop by the end of the year. (GOOD LUCK TO ME!) I'm not sure how to photograph that but it's a good example, costume related, and a big challenge!

With unquestioned but occasionally questionable loyalty,

LadyInWhite

I have a few:

1. Finish and fit into my TM suit

2. Finish my E-11 from real Sterling Parts

3. Get my wife to an approved 501st Costume

4. Paint the Garage (I don't think this one qualifies for the challenge, but still it's in my 2013 to do list :laugh1: )

I'm stumped now, from june this year until december I pretty much covered what costuming I had hoped to finish, 2 x E11's, a DLT-17, a T-21, stormtrooper armor, EIB and Ceturion approval, 6 months of absolute pleasure, ok there was some pain inbetween LOL, shame this wasn't for last year.

So 2013, I do plan on a hero conversion so I can troop as either, also I have not met any of the members from my local garrison, I have not done my first troop, I have not brought pleasure and happiness to many wearing my armor so there are a few things to do.

Next costume, imperial officer is in the back of my mind, I would like to see a Sandrooper next to my Stormtrooper manequin but that would need some saving first. I am helping a friend with a Leia costume so I can escort her to the cells LOL. I think I need a bit more planning of the year ahead, some quiet reflections over a cold beverage perhaps, 41 deg c outside at the moment, can't sew my hero neck seel the sweat is dripping off my nose :laugh1:

My goal will be to finish C3PO, but I'm not that good at documenting my builds. I'll have about 5 weeks in the summer where I can do a lot of work on it. Other than that work will be on the few weekends I can take off from studying.

Complete my new white TK.

Sell the TKC.

Get more parts so I can do ANH-S, ANH-H, ESB, and HWT any time I want.

Trim clone forearms to fit.

Get Centurion (you'd think I'd have it by now)

Troop more

Get FISD to 400 EI

Woo, awesome! Keep 'em coming and I'll be picking a few to highlight in the NL. I am very inspired by those making multiple costumes and those wishing to lose weight (and here we can hold ourselves accountable!), and getting loved ones involved. Troop more, troop safe, troop hydrated, troop happy!!!

I'll share my real goals (group 1):

1. My son's Little Anakin "padawan" (end of Ep 1)

2. Finish & get approved Navy Trooper + Navy NCO

3. My husband in an approved 501st costume & first troop

4. A Twisted Cinderella in time for Dragon*Con (Jeff Thomas works for me, I so luff him so much)

5. Lose 20lbs., remove my TK side shims and tighten stupid thighs even further, and learn to walk more like a guy

6. Finish son's Republic Trooper armor, paint

And the hopefuls (group 2):

1. A Darth Malgus by Dec. 31, 2013, mostly entirely hand-made by me

2. Acquire & assemble movie Shock Trooper armor, paint

3. Full Sith Acolyte, paint mask, acquire armor, build robes

4. The Mandalorian Family (three semi-matching costumes)

5. Generic Jedi costume

6. Almost forgot: ME "Miranda" costume for Dragon*Con

All this with no money LOL... hence the priorities - I already have what I need for group 1.

AND WHEN WALT GETS DONE WITH HIS KIDS' CLONE TK: WOOHOOO!!! Bump that to group 1 # 2!!!

Yes I have a HUGE PLATE but we can prioritize... I'm glad I wrote all this down because now I have my reference list.

I'm up for my first official and MANY troops for the year. And now that you all got me hooked on this and now that I've seen what this does for kids ( I visited our local hospital children's ward :) ) I'm really down for starting and approving a Darth Vader! I'd also really like to get my wife into a 501st approved costume. She's interested in an Imperial Officer which is a far cry from when I started she thought I was nuts!

My costume goals for the end of 2013:

  1. Recruit members closer to me than a plane or boat ride
  2. MEPD SWAT with an alley check captain TD
  3. Have ESB Vader 50% acquired

My FISD goals are too numerous to mention.... wait... maybe that's my problem?!

Been away from the boards for awhile. Lots of things I want to accomplish for 2013.

1. Recently found out I have cancer in November, so I have not been as active trooping from pain in my hip. Been doing Chemo and that has taken the pain away so I have a troop coming up soon. So I plan on kicking cancer In the behind! I have to much to live for, my beautiful wife, and children. Builds will have to be on hold for awhile... Bills are coming in.. :( Been trying to find things to work on to keep my mind off of things.

2. Finish my Sith Acolyte build. Have the helmet, neckseal, and robes being made by a tailor. Now to decide on the armor.

3. Finish my Galactic Marine build. Have most of the armor just need to finish getting the rest and to start building. Lots of waiting lists for items. :P

My Sith Acolyte so far,( Lord Ardass). The cloak is just an old cloak from a Halloween costume I just put on for the picture.

I am gonna buck the trend and say that I will promise nothing. I will only endeavour to be the best trooper and 501st representative I can be in 2013. If time, money and life allows, I will investigate new projects.

Happy 2013 everyone.
