Where, What and Whom To Avoid When Buying

Recommended Posts

Hi, i'm new on this forum. Had to ask is this recast armor or worth to buy? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3a7f1c9390

No! Waste of money. What you have there is old recast FX. You can get a much better kit for less money if you read some more on this site.

That first pic is classic in that the hand plates are upside down, and in the other pics they are reversed right-left. That should be some indication right there. I'm new to the armor building but even I can tell that this is something to avoid! :D

One thing Ive noticed cuz originally I was almost taken for the "Supreme" costume and that woulda been a mistake.. but either way. I went the good route only buying quality and its well over $1400.00 but well worth it considering what it coulda been with the "Unacceptable" armor. I dont think that getting good armor is cheaper but its way better...none the less.

I don't see CTM Props on the list yet. I have seen the kit in person and it looks like a direct recast of ATA....with poor details and interesting ab plate changes. It also has very noticable vacuum pin hole marks where the air was sucked out during the molding process. I'll take some photos the next time the kit is on premisis.

I was wondering the same thing.  As I don't have any equipment to make my own armor, I thought buying a kit would be best...Is CTM Props any good?....just not sure who to buy from....what sort of plastic....what is easiest to paint, is the most durable....not sure about some of these abbv. either...TX...or ATA...CAP?  I'm a noob to the site and could use some help and advice.  Hope I'm posting to at least the right section.

No they are not good. Stick to reading on the forums to learn and then you will know what you want. Don't buy anything until you are comfortable with all the names and what they mean. Be an educated buyer or get ready to waste a lot of money.

is Trooper Supplies still a good source of armor?

If it's not on our list of recommended sellers, we can't promise anything. It's very unlikely a better product than what we recommend. This page is a list of known bad sellers. Not a list of every bad seller. it would be impossible to keep up with everyone.

If you want good armour, read here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/

Anything else is buyer beware.

Hi Guys,

I was allways a Star Wars Fan and now I found this stormtrooper armor on ebay Germany ---------

I read alot the last few days about different armors, recasts and so on. Is this armor worth the money? I read 99% on ebay is crap, but maybe I have luck...? The seller has a second armor and can sell this for 600 Euros on "buy it now" option. He also has a Hasbro modified blaster in an other auction. I really want to join the 501st and so I want to have a good armor. to make the Empire and the Legion proud! Thanks a lot in advance^^ and greetings from Germany!!

 That's an AM/FX

You'd need another helmet and lots of modifications. There are other options out there

Thank you to you all!  I just joined this website today and un-bookmarked all those sites from my browser.   Special Thanks to Nicky Blum of the 501st Legion for guiding me here.  I'm new and building my first ANH Stormtrooper costume in hopes of joining the Golden Gate Garrison.   Now I have to get use to this website and reach out to the approved vendors.

My question:  I'm starting for scratch here.   I found this helmet from EFX website:

http://www.efxcollectibles.com

Would this helmet be approved by the 501st?   EFX says.... "THE DISTINCTIVE DESIGN OF THE STORMTROOPER WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED BY CONCEPT ARTIST RALPH McQUARRIE IN 1975. McQUARRIE DESIGNED SEVERAL VERSIONS OF THE LOOK OF THE EMPIRE’S GENERAL INFANTRY.TO ENSURE THAT YOUR eFX STORMTROOPER HELMET RETAINED ALL OF THE SUBTLE NUANCES OF THE HAND-SCULPTED ORIGINAL, OUR ENGINEERS DIGITALLY SCANNED AND CAST A SURVIVING ORIGINAL HELMET TO RECREATE THIS ICONIC PIECE OF STAR WARS HISTORY."

Hey guys.. Are originalstormtrooper.com any good? Just come across em and can't find any info on them in this thread.

Decent but overpriced and not at all as original as they claim to be. You can get better for less from the makers on our recommended list.

If you want all the dirty details you can read more here http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/19286-the-original/
