  1. Starting to trim/test fit the thighs. What do I do about this? The bottom edge doesn't line up.

I've seen someone else with the same ATA kit trim the back like this

I guess this is my route.

Has anyone ever filled up gaps with bondo or other type of filler material?

I filled mine with 'green stuff' 2 part modeling putty. then sanded, and smoothed, then after my first real fitting cut it all off because it pinched my leg. :-)

  2. I already said that I was flattered, but no thanks. I just found it interesting that he wanted only my lid. Figured they sent out a blanket offer to TKs from the 501st site. I have a hard time letting my friends hold my lid, much less sending it off to NYC all by itself.

  3. I got an e-mail from a NYC photo studio requesting to rent my TK lid for a photo shoot, anyone else got an e-mail like this?:

    Hi Eric,

Hope all is well. I am reaching out today because I came across your profile on www.501st.com. I am interested in renting your stormtrooper costume for an upcoming photoshoot.

We would need to use only the helmet and any props. We don't need the full costume. We would of course compensate you for using your costume.

We are a photography and digital animation studio in NYC. located on 95 canal street. The purpose of this shoot is for the photographers personal portfolio. It will be a closed set, meaning only the model, hair/make-up team, photographer, and myself will be present on set.

I assure you that your costumes will be dealt with and handled very carefully. I understand that a lot of time and money has been put into the construction of your costumes. We have worked with many props before and will take full responsibility for any damages. We have worked with Bulgari, MTV, HBO, Everlast, and Coca-Cola to name a few.

We are very interested in your costume, and once again only need certain parts of it for this photo shoot. Please let me know if you are willing to rent and at what rate.

    Thank you,

    Nasim

  4. you mean our user names? Easy, my last name is a long, polish nightmare. Jablonski. I don't think it's hard, but seems alot of people can't pronounce it. So while I was in the army, everyone called me JB. Tack onto that the fact that I was a SGT, and there ya have it. Sgt JB!!

  5. I'm 6'2" about 190 - 195. I left a little room in the belly, and my kidney and ab plates connect with velcro so it's adjustable, so I don't think you'd have a problem. Dougie, if you keep saying things like that I won't be able to get my helmet on with my inflated head :) thanks again for the compliments.

  6. I was kinda kidding there Paul :)

I think that if you're interested in making armor, like I am, It can be a little difficult to understand what's accepted practice, and what's not. I've done enough research, and have tried very hard not to step on any toes, and to act as honestly as I can. Heck, I asked for permission from the Detachment to ask for permission from the armorer. I've got acceess to a 3d printer, and do CAD work, so when I finally do make a suit, it will be 100% my own work. That being said to start with, I probably will just make a mold or 2 to make test pieces, and to learn how to correctly vacuum cast. I asked before what the detachment felt about modifying existing pieces, as I think IMHO that it would be acceptabble to get a basic size, and whatnot from pre-existing armor and hand make your own molds. But that's not recasting, at least not in my book.

  7. I'm glad I made sense to someone :)

This whole discussion is so convoluted, it's very hard to follow. As someone who wants to get into vacuum forming, I find the whole conversation difficult to follow. I plan on making a vacuum table in the spring. Not so much for making Star Wars armor, I actually want to make life size Warhammer Space Marine and Imperial Guard armor, but would want to make my own replacement parts. (belt fronts, and the like) I actually started making my own belt molds recently (not recast, just out of wood)

I had planned on making some other pieces for taller troopers, forearms, thighs, shins, that kind of thing. But I'm going to be making my own molds, not copying. This endevor would be quite expensive, and I'm not make of $. So to help with the costs, my goal was to make fully assembled belts, and thermal detonators.

But I am glad we can talk about it without starting fights.

  8. Not on the subject of the DIY boards, as Im not a member, and have never visited the site, I do have a question. And I'm just looking for clarification. CAP's molds are a TE reproduction, I'm assuming this to be correct? And has said that he doesn't care if others recast him. That being said, If someone wanted to recast CAP, wouldn't they also need permission from TE? I think I follow that the TE2 knee and ab buttons are not permitted, as they are someone else's work. Do I have this correct? I'm just trying to understand. But by this logic, any suits derived from CAPs are allowed to be recasted, as long as the current maker gives their permission?

I think I need to go lay down... my head hurts.

Also, on the subject of the DIY boards, I've registered, and never been activated. so take from that what you will.

  9. There's no white elastic anywhere in my build. there are 1" canvas straps attaching my drop boxes to the belt. all other straps are either black nylon, or elastic. if you're referring to the white on the left shoulder area (shown in red) that is a white gap between the black body suit, and a black elastic strap holding down my shoulder bell, which is accurate.
