  1. In defence of LFL, I can understand how someone making "replicas" of stuff their art department created, and their production built a fanbase for, and making a fast buck off said replicas would be annoying and fiscally damaging. At the same time, when fans are making or distributiong stuff not for profit but for enjoyment it actually nurtures the fanbase and helps it to grow.

On the one hand, it can be a mixed blessing: a good example is BSG (new series) on Sci-Fi network... and on Bit Torrent. At first Sci-Fi had their knickers in a knot about the show being distributed online, but soon reallized that with so many viewers downloading and watching it worldwide, then recommending it to TV viewers in the US, the "piracy" was actually HELPING BSG become SFN's top rated show.

Same for music in Canada - most artists favour fee-free MP3 distribution of their music since it means more people hear their stuff, thereby finding more people who might like it, and concert attendance goes up.

Film is a bit different, though. I hate seeing my stuff ripped off and, in the movie biz, the main revenue streams are distribution (theatrical or home/DVD) and merchandising. If people are downloading my films or trading pirated DVDs of it, that's fewer viewers buying tickets or legitimate DVDs and eating into the production's return on investment. If people are making unlicensed memorabilia, that's less merchandise with license fees attached that are being successfully sold.

I suppose I should've phrased my question more concisely; I'm looking for sources of said hats, not specifically looking for cheap knockoffs or fan-made stuff.

  2. Thanks.

I guess it's tough to say "X company makes 'em, and so does this guy... try here" without saying "Oh *sniff* You're new, so I have to remind you there's stuff you can't have yet, even if you didn't ask about said stuff. Makes me feel important."

  3. Imperial officer caps certainly are neat, but not the sort of thing you can wear with daily attire and not look... odd. I meant something to just show your star wars fan leanings whilst popping down to sev for a slurpee and Car & Driver mag.
