1. My biggest worry with this helmet was that it was going to be undersized. However judging by the pics the size seems to be ok. Overall it looks to me to be a very nice addition to anyone's collection. Can't seem to find it in any of my local stores here in the UK though.

    Don't worry, xD

Go back to page 3, someone posted a comparison against a anovos helmet, perfectly good size.

Eyes weren't as sharp as i thought... the helmet... hmmm... Oh well, still rad.

...Btw Pandatrooper, what's that about not being the right size? xD

  3. We didn't get them here in AU.
Apparently the helmets are not due for release in AU till mid October.

We only got the Black Series 6' figures and some other smaller figures.
So I got me a Death Trooper. The K-2S0 looks pretty sweet too.

Same, Live in AU too, had to go preorder from ToysRus... From what I've heard, they sold out the second the preorder was up, and came back up again on Force-Friday for a revision >.<

    Well.. Snooze.

  4. Please excuse my ignorance, I'm new to all of this and have much to learn. But how can you tell he is recasting?

. Simply put it, it looks exactly like a te based helmet. besides that, you can see the seam from the ears if you dont believe me ( worst case scenario)

From looking at the right eye notch, and the sharp ears, it's an AP

  5. Hey, i was wondering if any of you guys/girls know the dimension of the first order helmet (preferably anovos)

Was looking at the rogue one trailer multiple times for reference pictures of the shadow-trooper (trying to sculpt my own) and saw a very strong familiarity with the first order helmet.

    thanks-

BTW, do any of you think 44 lbs of plaster is a bit excessive? xD

  6. Actually the special edition used shots done far after the original film. In the original film the suits were all designed by brian muir and liz moore. The first 6 suits pulled were created

at elstree studios, under the guidance of brian muir, and Tashy Bains was the person forming the plastic.

Those 6 suits were then set up as Sand Troopers, Taken to tunisia, and filmed. They were then cleaned up and used on the death star scenes with the suits pulled by Ainsworth.

During the special edition There was a lot of re-shooting and litte add in's.

Overall Star Wars, the original trilogy, the video games, and the newest variations allow for a lot of different looks, and paint styles.

The FISD certainly has a lot of cool choices.

That's why i said there were ROTJ's stormy's made into sandy's in the SE...

  7. Poor derailing thread.....lol what about the bouush (not sure how to spell) costume? Since leia is wearing that when the shiny round TD is revealed wouldn't the 501st allow a TD (round shiny) for certification?

The OG's had shiny sandtroopers. What's shiny round? lol

    MEPDSandtroopers.jpg

Unless you're talking about spanking clean?

*Edit* Didn't realize you were talking about Thermal Detonators... Lol...

    Goddamn 501st and their acronyms

And No, it would probably be under Non-Canon CRL's etc.

  8. Let's put it this way, from my own point of view as a dedicated prop collector. What appeared on screen (no matter if we're talking about lights, paint, warps/dents etc. or lack of those) is what I'm interested in getting. Personally I don't care about any games, comics, prints, posters, or any kind of artistic interpretations outside the 3 OT movies themselves when talking about my props. Any time a figure, statue, and especially a 1:1 armor/helmet lacks accuracy I'm totally aware of it. There are collectibles that have no accuracy at all, and some which are quite accurate. That doesn't mean I don't collect less accurate stuff. But when talking about 1:1 armor and helmet I want to be as accurate as possible with the warts and asymmetry there.

The thing with 501st is that they strive for accurate stuff, not 100%, but still more than allowing a round silver thermal detonator with lights to be added on a regular Stormtrooper armor. That's why 501st have their rules, which you need to obey if wanting to join their ranks. Outside 501st, no one says you cannot make a pink tutu Stormtrooper with swan wings on its back and with elephant ears instead of the regular Stormtrooper ears. But you will not be able to join 501st with that, no matter how many prizes your artwork will receive, unless you get in a parallel universe where pink tutus are a must for Stormtroopers. ;)

That's why i said I'm not part of the 501st. I'm not that overly keen on praising a single costume.

When people talk about 501st to me i usually look away, because again, I'm not that interested into a devoted group.

    I'm just a guy with a preference.

  9. Are you asking if the canister on the back of a RotJ suit is cannon as a TD?

There are NO instances where these canisters are used as TDs in the movie, or any movie. Maybe in noncannon video games?

The only cannon video game that has the RotJ suit used is the new Battlefront and in that game the Stormtroopers use TDs similar to the one Leia had in Jabba's Palace, not the canisters on their belts.

All I know is that most the stuff you see in the movies didn't have any or much meaning before hand other than it looks good on film. Afterwards, fans have tried to come up with meaning of the unexplained. Not much lore, just cool props.

ROTJ armors was used as sandtroopers, ever watched ANH special edition?

  10. It's all context. If this was a military history forum discussing WWI infantry tactics, the term would mean something different.

This forum is about recreating props and costumes of the Imperial Stormtroopers as shown in the Star Wars films (mostly). Each of us sees a variation on the theme based on film preference but in this context and on this forum, the word "stormtrooper" really does mean something very specific.

It's cool that you have a broader interpretation and being a sci-fi fan and builder of random things, I appreciate that. There are plenty of forums, like RPF, where those ideas would probably be better received. Jus' sayin'. :)

Yea the stormtroopers as seen on TV are very specific, and its not arrogance but dedication that leads the 501st to set large amounts of standards. Also yes troopers aren't always the same and often the 501st obliges by adding that specific costume with its own rules to to crl. Like my personal favorite is the TKC which is a non-movie suit and honestly im thankful that the crl has such strict rules to help make sure my suit will be as accurate as possible.

Ah, yes, I understand where you're coming from, I'm a accuracy freak myself, i was just discussing why i think it's wrong to be overly "Accuracy-Devoted" to start to attack those who just want to make themselves a custom trooper.

I mean, I've seen people love death troopers and get attacked "It's ugly and not canon" etc.

People have preferences. That's all I'm saying.

  11. Gandalf - Whereas I enjoy a good pot stir as much as the next guy, I think Lichtbringer nailed it. The 501st is about replicating a specific thing, other things are not that thing. We play here because we want to recreate and discuss that thing. One can cosplay any unorthodox variation they want in many situations but continuity and symmetry is what makes the Legion what it is and what makes it attractive to most of us.

The military is all about regulations and standards. The Empire, though fictional, portrays a vast professional military with extremely high standards and unforgiving leadership. It stands to reason that even though it's fictional, the uniform standards would be very rigid. Having a non-standard weapon would be considered "out of uniform" shall we say.

Now, just to play devil's advocate... could there be specialized, elite Imperial units who are allowed to use non-standard weapons and off-world thermal detonators? Probably. They wouldn't be canon at this point, but it's certainly intriguing and possible and the a few strokes of a writers keyboard could make it so.

I'm not part of the 501st per say, I was just stating stormtroopers was a name, a title, and shouldn't relate to a specific armor, since stormtroopers (merchandise etc.) are in no-way directly lined to that of the movie look.

Thinking stormtroopers as of something only seen in movies, is "arrogant" and if close the hypocritical, since again, Ralph Mcquirre first visualized it. as most of the people on here don't even have the right to say whats a stormtrooper and what's not.

What I'm saying is, i don't think stormy's should go by the 501st's definition and preferred look.

Stormtroopers are a title/name. They don't have to be canon-looking, to be a stormtrooper

  12. And Mark makes the beautifully accurate AP bucket. He can be reached at authenticprops@hotmail.com

    I love mine.

I don't think AP is that accurate. Smooth cap n' back and the clearly modified notch in the left eye

  13. no lights in the film. No lights on a replica costume.

If you add lights or sound to the TK outside the film. then it's not a stormtrooper.

     First of all:

Tk's don't exist in star wars. Therefore praising tk's a stormtroopers are ridiculous.

    Second of all:

Have you seen rebels, games, Ralph Mcquarrie, or toy license holders such as PlayArts?

Stormtrooper is a name, outside the film, it's still a name for armors. First order has stormtroopers with light up blasters.

    You do understand "Ideal" right?

We understand your love for the original trilogy, but you guys need to stop being arrogant.

Look at this ideal stormtrooper from playarts. I guess they got the star wars license for nothing, huh?

    10319183.jpg

Sorry for being harsh, but i don't understand what you guys have against anything that isn't liz moore's or brian muirs work.

You guys act like the basic design of a stormtrooper can't be altered, as if you're the people who created star wars.

    Stormtroopers are stormtroopers, enough said.

They don't relate to the specifications you people put out, it's just a name.

You don't say marines dressed out of their uniforms "Aren't Marines"

    See my point?

  14. unfortunately, they are painted on and yes its an rs bucket, my first ever build, i think i will just leave it until my application's as i am happy with them, i was using this trooper as reference as you can see his tubes start to get further away than a pencil towards the back of the tubestripes on our right

    attachicon.gif999.jpg

If you ever apply, and have to change them, get mineral turpetine, really, really rubs off enamels/testors without effecting the gloss of the plastic.
