  1. My 2 cents.

Full sewn bib and back piece that appears attached to neckseal or hang from.

Full ribbed undersuit that has sewn ribs. Visible under arms and used for shore and TK. This is the smaller of the ribs. Mesh near armpit.

Ribbed underoos. Almost similar to a boxer brief design, this ribbing is sewn and different from the non sewn ribs on the thigh armor.

The gaskets themselves are fully sewn and have a different design than TFA, they don't have really have ribs in R1 at least none with major dimension (height).

Lots of sewing on this one..lots. :)

3 different rib sizing and at least 3 different materials.

Subscribed, looking forward to your updates.

  2. I own a kit and used duplicolor.

I plan to repaint it with PPG so it'll stand up..the trick will be is the Preval sprayer can handle it whi check would allow me to bypass a shop where I'd have to leave my armor.

    Preval sprayer, thoughts?

  3. Just picked up a Singer Heavy Duty for the Mrs. It says "heavy duty" on it so it must be heavy duty right? :jc_doublethumbup:

That one sews super fast if its that grey one I'm thinking of, awesome machine for those that are experienced. I'm not ready for that kind of speed yet lol

    Great buy :)

  4. Do you mean a "walking foot"? That's what the Mrs. uses.

I still do not like the idea of "wearing the gaskets". Building the gaskets in to the armor is simply the way to go, whether you use cloth or rubber. Good luck guys, in whatever you decide. After a decade of rehashing the same old costumes, we now have something new.

    Yessir.

Singer uses the term interchangeably :)

  5. Yeah competing with $100 is quite the feat especially when that's near material cost for this (my) version

However I am glad there is multiple options out there for people to choose from.

Of note: I'm picking up an even feed foot today and it should speed up things dramatically which would make me rethink a run if it reduces my pinning time...

  6. Are you doing runs on your gaskets yet?! They are beautiful

Thank you so much. I was able to use them fully this weekend and they were a success.

Removing the rubber from my knees helped dramatically for me with the heat factor.

As far as runs, I wish I could, however the time per set is quite a bit intense which makes runs impossible for me right now.

But..I am actively searching for a method to speed up the process to make it worthwhile

  7. I would definitely go cloth

I was able to squat down fairly low and walk at a brisk pace and had full mobility to remove my helmet and simply move in any way..

Cloths the way to go imo..if you can get the look down

See below for my gaskets that I made.

    Cloth and 4 way stretch

  8. As long as the first line is straight and reference points along the way it should be fine.

This is a really great tutorial and thanks topherhunter on the kind words on my attempts of my own versions

I'm getting closer to being done and they are coming out excellent!

  9. My brother and I were in the same boat as you at first. Ultimately, we chose the classic TK for a few reasons.. One, it's what we've always known a stormtrooper to be since we were 4 and 8 years old in 77'. Those frowns really stuck and made an impression on my four year old mind. I guess because there were so many of them! Two, it's readily available with years of build threads and help on this site. And three, the unknown of when TFA kits will even be available and for how much. Initially, we were set on TFA kits, we even have helmets on the way. So, like Paul said, we'll eventually do both! Someday... maybe, (we'll see). In the meantime, we wait for our AP kits and gather supplies, most of which I already have. And honestly, we couldn't be happier with our decision and we're ready to get this going!

AP kits are amazing and I love mine, I get tons of compliments on this one!

That being said..TFA is much..much more detailed. Rushing it's easy, but careful building and it'll take a while.

    Money pit for sure

In the end. My 2 cents. TK first, then TFA TK down the road, the skills will transfer over and make TFA building enjoyable vs a daunting task.

I also 2nd mobility. I can move so easily in my TFA and visibility is great, comfortable but really depends on gaskets and under harness assembly and who's build you followed ;)
