  1. The problem we have is that in Star Wars all the weapons look like real world weapons due to the aesthetic chosen back in the 70s. Whilst that’s changing a bit with other franchises, we’re not carrying phasers.

This means you really really need to be aware of who might see this and the conclusions and consequences that may lead to.

One thing that’s worth mentioning and probably not overly well known is that in the UK is simply owning an E-11 could potentially be a firearms offence, and so can REALLY land you in hot water if you don’t use some common sense.

Due to the appearance it falls under the legislation for a “Replica Imitation Firearm”. Without going too far into it as I am not qualified to do so, the manufacture and possession is illegal without a “reasonable excuse”.

This is a nice summary from some one who at least appears to know what they are on about:

    Hi team,

I'm new to all of this and am a cadet.

Please excuse any stupid questions on my behalf.

Is it possible to just use velcro for the entire assembly instead of glue?

Wouldn't it hold the kit together and allow for changes to be made?

I was actually considering it when i start my build.

No it wouldn't sorry.  Things like the cover strips need to be glued on to look right, and a layer of velcro instead, would not only not be up to the job, it would not look right and so not be clearable.

This is why glues like E6000 are recommended as if a mistake is made of change required it's a reversible bond than you can remove and re do.

So i heard some use gold leaf to make the gold areas.

Will that be necessary or is "normal" gold color like mine fine too? Since my gold color matches the gold of the show

Edit: i saw in the CRL creation thread that gold leaf for the cracks is just for Lvl 3 certification?

Won't know for sure until the CRL is finalized, there has been little input there to date, but I would think it would be L2 or L3 and not required for basic.

As Glen says, it's not final but as it stands no leaf until Lvl3.  I suspect that will stand for cracks, but I do want to ask about if we want leaf for the armour, not cracks, at level 2 as it is such a major part of the look of this costume. Though I can't imagine basic ever requiring it.

  4. The way I’ve been drafting it on Enoch, which is based on this draft, is lvl1 can be painted on lvl2 engraved but can be paint and then lvl 3 is engraved and “gold coloured leaf”. Doesn’t have to be actual gold, but leaf does look very different to paint so I think is a valid step up for the top level. This applies to cracks and patches.

Once cleared if you need to make repairs then how you handle that is going to be based on personal choice, what you have to hand, time and cost considerations.

All still open to discussion, but that needs to start with something.

  5. We are now funded through into the next term, so this funding drive is now closed.

Thank you to all of you who donated and have kept the Imperial engine turning. Supporter badges have been applied to all of you.

As a reminder the majority of our costs are picked up by the Legion, who are currently having a drive to cover those pretty substantial costs.  If you have not yet done so, even $1 will help.

From a design perspective (thinking from the developers POV), it would make sense if they designed it to reuse as many measurements as possible, so if you could just try to use the same distance as you have at #1 (the distance between the black and red leather around the neck) on #2 (the top of the triangle shape, making the black area at the top have the same distance), and on #3 minimize the distance to the edge a bit?

The vertical spacing looks significantly thinner than then bottom one, and the gap at the top of the slice appears to be closer to the side then the base.  This suggestion seems more accurate to my eyes.  Though you might want to check the relative proportions of the various black elements.

Im aware of this. I will use the files from Galactic Armory, they seem pretty accurate. Will make a test print of the lower 2cm of the chest/backplate to see if they fit around my abs plate

Make sure you check the ab plate as from what I have seen there are better files.

  8. Welcome to the FISD!

I don't think you need to worry, though we all do especially the first time.  You have a lot of skills there that whilst maybe not directly applicable have taught you to figure stuff out. Take that and some guidance from your garrison and us here on the forum and I am sure you will be a Centurion soon enough.

My single best piece of advice is to take your time before buying anything. Take some time to see what your local troopers are using, what the more recent centurions are using and what is in your budget and make sure it will work for the goals you want to achieve.

  9. Greetings troopers!

For a while now FISD has been hosted on the Legion web servers who cover our hosting costs along side those of the Legion. We do still have costs we cover ourselves, the big one being the email service.

Over the last few years this has been generously paid for by members of staff, who have already covered a chunk of this year.

In order to fully fund the email service we need to raise $150 to keep the emails going until the end of the term.  We would like to let as many of you contribute as possible, so we are asking for a $2 donation towards the running costs from any members who are in a position to do so.

Now you might be asking what do I get out of this? First we all get emails! You also get the warm feeling of knowing you are a trooper helping troopers.

All members who donate will also have the 2024 supporter banner added to their profile.

We are now funded, thank you to all of you who donated.

    With Unquestioned Loyalty,

    Your FISD staff team

  10. Welcome to FISD, this looks like a great build

We don't have much space on the server for images so you will need to host them somewhere else.  IMGUR works great for this  but rather than posting a link to the album you want to add the links to indivisual photos:

If you grab the "direct link" and past it into the text field, the forum should do the rest.  If you're on your phone then that link has details on what to do.
