  1. I built my TK almost exclusively by myself, in my apartment, using only scissors, clamps and magnets. I bought them specifically for this build as I have no tools outside of a basic rachet/screwdriver set.

It's really doable, unless you live in one of those tiny home you see on TV...

Oh and I'm a real dummy when it comes to building stuff too!!!
  2. The self buld would be great but sadly I have no equipment and no way to meet up to locl people.. I am in south Carolina and my Garrison are the Carolina Garrison.

  3. Man, I wanted that patch. But good for you, actually making cookies to get the shot definitely warranted the win, even if it was random. :)

Sorry about that man! Send me a PM, I might have something for you ;)

  4. Got this beauty a few weeks ago! I got busy with troops and family stuff but I finally got around to post about it here.

  6. Everyone is eligible!

You can even get a picture in your Rubies. As long as you're holding up that cookie I don't care what your armor looks like.

I have armor but no cookies!

Easy, right? Get cookies, you say!

But if I get cookies, I will HAVE to eat said cookies and then I won't fit my armor anymore!!!

Sure, I could eat cookies and exercise, but let's be honest for a second, who would willingly chose to exercise when they could be eating cookies!!! I LOVE COOKIES, THERE I SAID IT, OK?!?!?

    Nice patch BTW ;)

  7. Honestly, I will be building a set - still trying to decide just *what* will be net. Definitely something I can sit in, though! :-p

Mainly, it was fear of completely screwing things up beyond recognition / recovery. This has been a bucket list item for a long time, so I wanted at least one that's done right.

Oh - and I just got the email - you can address me as TK-23518! :jc_doublethumbup:

Fear not next time, there's not much that can't be undone...

I even saw a trooper who trimmed 2 inches off the top of his thighs manage to glue them back on! I mean, don't do that, but if you do screw up, you're probably not the first!

As for your next kit, you may wanna take a look at AP since you're canadian. It's a little more clean than RS, which has all the bumps and warts of the originals. A lot thicker too!

    Oh and salute TK23518!

  8. Thanks for the advice, will do!

    I know the pain man!

I redid that joint at least 6 times, inner and outer strips combined. I ended up using two locking pliers, a ton of magnet and an old wooden chest like this :

    cb7d79ae5b42d7c57c9a1e16609f57c4.jpg

As crazy as it may sound, the chest allowed the two halves to flatten and keep flush until the glue dried. I could share a pict with you tomorrow, but it's like night and day!

  9. Acetone will soften the belt! Don't use it! Best bet, I think, is cutting the cloth belt around the rivets, and gluing or snapping a new belt to the plastic one. I'll be attempting that on Thurs and see how it goes. (:

I cut the cloth belt around the rivets, drilled them, then pried the covers off. The cool thing about drilling the rivets is that the heat makes that pink glue softer. I cleaned the button covers with the dremel, going slow and steady.

    Here's a few tips :

1- Cover the buttons with painter's tape. You don't want to damage them!

2- Use a butter knife to pry off the button covers. You don't want a sharp blade slipping and damaging your plastic belt!

3- If you can't pry them off, better cut your losses and cut a square around the rivet at the back of the belt. Better that than having the plastic tear!

    Oh, and good luck! :)

  10. Nothing major has really been completed since the last update...but I have some things here and there....

Here are the completed fronts of the thighs and the left leg. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how I'll get the sniper plate on such a narrow area at the top of the shin...but I'm not worried about that quite yet.

Earlier this week, I had my ANH E-11 Centurion come in from HFx. I still wish the magazine was a little bit longer, and that the ejection port had more silver on it. I don't know of any, on a firearm like that...that has that much black on it. I'm happy knowing that I'll be able to take it on troops and not worry about who's carrying it or if it will get dropped.

Then, I spent an afternoon making snap plates with the snaps I bought from the Seckstore (100 snaps was around $20). My only issue with the snaps, is that the posts seem a little on the long side...so if you're using them with something like a single layer of Nylon, you'll have to trim it down a little bit with a dremel, which I did...or just double up the nylon so it has more filler inbetween the two halves. With leather or folded over elastic, there should be no problem.

I took a board and measured out how far apart I wanted my snaps and drilled 2 holes about the size of the snap post. Then all I had to do was put down the 2" x 1" piece of nylon, heat up the nail, and poke it through into the holes and the Viola!

I was able to get most of the snaps straight. It feels really good when you get it just perfect, but none of them came out bad enough that I would have drill it out and try again.

The next thing I managed to do was get my bicep straps glued into my shoulder bells. This was a pretty straightforward process. I just cut out the velcro pads from the Anovos supplied elastic and singed the ends to prevent any fraying...then I just glued them in so that they fit right against the bicep without the elastic stretching.

Next, I ordered my Aker MR1505 amp from Amazon.com through a company called Amazing Helpers. They had the 1505 listed for $24.99. What savings!! I couldn't pass it up. I did the Prime trial and got it on Monday. Turns out they sent me the MR1506 that had an inventory tag reading MR1505 on it. I returned and ordered another thinking it was a small mistake on their part. I received the next one today, and it was the SAME THING!!! I called Amazon and they gave me a $15 credit on my next order.

Last of all, I am happy to report that my iComm has arrived. I was really surprised at how small and light it is. Came with the PTT cable, 3.5mm patch cable, and the unit. I got a nice card from TX-6294. Am excited to try it out when I get around to getting the proper Aker amp, and my wireless headset comes in, in a week or so.

I don't have much left on my checklist of things to do. I have to:

-Glue the backs of the thighs

-Glue the backs of the shins

-Make and glue on bicep hooks

-Clean up all of the glued pieces

    -Remove excess E6000

-Round off edges and countour lines

-Install visible snaps on Ab/Cod/Butt plates

-Add shims to Ab/Kidney Plate connection

    -Install all internal strapping

    -Adjust strapping to proper fit

-Order my Kittle belt and convert my Anovos belt over

-Apply for approval (Basic, then EIB, then Centurion)

Woah man, your to-do list is almost word for word the same as mine

I need to update my build thread but I'd rather use that time to, you know, actually build the thing!!!

Keep up the good work, you seem to be on the right track :)

  11. Ummmm, I AM an Anovos buyer. I know they have delays. My TK was 2 months behind. All I'm saying is that they have a target ship date on the page. Even with the expected 2-3 months delays, it should arrive before end of 2016. On the other hand, they have never had this little lead time from announcement to target date, so that leads me to believe that they have their manufacturing up to speed on this one.

Yeah, you're probably right. This might go like it did for the FOTK helmets...
