Do you remember how much you needed to increase the length?

If memory serves I added about 2.25" (~57mm) to the length between the seam line and where the curve starts.

When assembled, my pauldrons measure 6"  (15.25cm) from the seam to the base of the pauldron.

    Hope that helps.

I like the black the best. Does it matter?? Which one for TK stormtrooper. Not sand trooper. And is it a rank or for extra cool factor. Thanks

Standard TKs don't actually wear pauldrons, unless you're doing a Rebels TK or an R1 style TK (Jedha patrol)
    Or a HWT.

    BTW:
    Black = Private
    White = Sgt
    Orange = Captain

  3. I was wondering where they'll end up as well.
No armour on the thighs, but armoured shins (with overbuilt TK left shins and sniper plate, no less) and forearms. It looks like the ab area is armoured as well.
I imagine there will be a little squabbling over which detachment lands these guys.

I really want to do one as a lighter/more flexible option to my TD.

I hope the boots are both not rubbish and easily accessible/convertable.

  4. Not sure what's different, but I have the straps between my biceps and forearms, and I can completely dress in my armor, by myself in less than fifteen minutes, including the belt, TD, bucket, etc. I may occasionally ask for a bit of assistance in ensuring that my left shoulder bridge is in the white elastic loop, but outside of that... No issues at all. If you'd like to figure out how to improve some things, I'd be happy to look at some pictures and offer some advice - as a lot of folks here would also be willing to do, of course. :)

Bolding mine. That's the only part I ever get stuck on as well. I put my pauldron on, then the right shoulder (snapping it in at the elastic shoulder piece) and I can get the left bicep and bell ON, but it is murder for me to get that one snapped. The first time I tried I actually broke the right bicep apart at both front and back seams. LOL

  5. Ab buttons are there, all be it modified as per the rest of the suit and lid. :)

One of the most frustrating things about the Rogue One TK is the complete disregard for continuity of the original costume. The timeline for the story is supposed to be days/weeks before ANH so the costumes should for all means and purposes be the same for any and all established characters.

I get the ‘Then-and now’ angle that many have voiced regarding construction, ease of use, cleaner visual appearance, etc., etc., but I’m sorry, you can’t tell me that with all the modern technology that we now have regarding design, materials and manufacturing that if they REEEEELLY wanted to they couldn’t have come up with a functional and practical version that fits the bill whilst retaining the full essence and elements of the originals.

I think it’s pretty obvious that Disney/the Costume designers wanted to stamp their own mark and come up with THEIR version, THEIR interpretation, THEIR take on the costume, regardless of what others may think.

I suppose we should be grateful for small mercies, it could have been worse, it least we didn’t end up with Schumacher style nipples.

    :)

My guess is that it's much more likely the case that the costume designers and stunt coordinator got together and decided that function beats out (what for 99.5% of the viewing audience) are microscopic details.

Someone in stunts went "So, how many extra suits do you want to pull- 'cause if we use the old style suit our stunt guys might be breaking the thighs, shins and biceps with EVERY SINGLE STUNT. So figure 5-8 suits per take, and a given scene might be 3-8 takes.

Figure a minimum 15 damaged plates a day, a maximum of 485 or so".

And then costuming went "... we are NOT rebuilding each of these suits with every single stunt. That would be 100s of extra pulls! Why don't we mod the design so our guys can actually MOVE in them, and

nobody is going to be paying attention to the gap between the back of the thigh and the butt plate anyway *except for those nuts at the 501st, and this will drive them spare!*"  LOL :D

As much as we hate to admit it, movies are not made for the detail obsessed crowd. They are made for the general audience. We're over here trying to count how many new parts are on the R1 TKs E-11s (a sentence that would boggle a normal person's mind)

and everybody else in the theater is going "WOW, did you see that explosion! SO COOL HOW SHE DID THAT!".

  6. There has to be 501st members who have had a say or involvement in the design/building/creation of these new stormtrooper suits. Just makes sense for film makers of 'Star Wars' to utilise some of the expert and detailed work some of you do.

My question is how come we are all still fighting about it? Can't someone here just come out with the truth? I understand confidentiality laws and contracts...but Im sure we could at least get a 'YES'...they were for mobility etc...or 'NO' blah blah blah.....without actually giving any spoilers.

Same thing I wondered for when the TFA trailers came out. Someone or more on here would have had a part in it.

Or does Lucasfilm do everything in house?

Even if anybody here was consulted I doubt the general forums would get any info. NDAs are mighty tools, and it's not like Disney doesn't have an armada of lawyers on-hand or anything.

  7. I'm surprised no one has mentioned how more bulkier (ala TFA Stormies) these Stormtroopers are. Honestly, I'm missing the traditional OT lanky/fit look.

I agree, the helmet does look very similar to the efx. I can also understand the changes made to the back/kidney but why get rid of the canvas belt? The double plastic belt looks cheap and stupid. I don't see how a plastic belt is more durable than a canvas belt... strange choice.

Two thoughts. The "Long lanky" look was for British acting extras c1976. Loads of these R1 extras are current duty British Army/Air Service (and probably a LOT more fit/built).

Re: The belt- they probably did that because with the higher definition film today the canvas will look totally different from the rest of the armour- something that couldn't be said of the OT since people were adrift as to what the material

was for quite a long time until the higher res versions were released.

This way the belt looks to be all part of one unit rather than a cheap fabric thing added on after the fact. (don't get me wrong, I love the OT kit, but I'm speaking from a costuming/visual design standpoint).

  8. ... and I don't know about the rest of you out there, but I'm PSYCHED for that desert tank trooper thing lol those guys look sick! That was just my 2 cents :)

The new tanker crew DOES look sick! I'm really torn between them, the Death Troopers, and the new Brown-job scout-looking guys. (The less said about my desire to do season 6 Commander Wolffe in his Hazardous Environs suit, the better LOL )

  9.

The only thing I saw as a disappointment is the Shadow troopers were of a new design. I was so hopeful that they would be classic Shadow Troopers so my one on order from Anovos would have some street cred.

They are supposedly called "Death Troopers" and my bet is that they are direct-line descendants from the Republic/Imperial Commandos.

I flipped the shot (because the trailer has this section reversed for some reason).

Check out the heavy shoulder bells, the squared biceps, the loaded bracers (forearms), and the overall shape of the top/rear of the bucket.

They've also got a much deeper backplate, which, while certainly not a Commando backpack, lends itself a heavier overall look than a standard TK/Shadow.

Just spitballing here, but that is my first take on these guys.

  10. Or, if you have an iphone there is one app already out that modulates the voice and adds click-off (I use this one, and it's excellent so far)
    http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/32270-tkvoice-for-ios-development-annoucement/

And another one that looks like it might be ready soon.

For either one all you need to do is buy an Aker amp and a gaming headseat adaptor.

  11. Eeekk.. 6' / 215. Guess I'll need some extra work

If you're a reasonably fit 6' 215lb you can do it.

I left all the long edges untrimmed down to where the plastic turns 90* where it meets the vac-table (built in shims).

In the end I only needed extra material on the biceps (about 2mm on each side of the cut line- 17.5" biceps),

at the rear of the thighs (about 1" total split between the two sides), and in the middle of the calf (about .75" at the widest part of the calf, but then trimmed down lower than the ANOVOS cut line at the ankle).

I also had to add about 1.25" of shim to the kidney plate, because I've spent the last 5 years working myself to death with no time to exercise- but I made the shims break-aways so I can take them out in sections as I

    get to fighting trim again.

The only other things I had to mod were spreading the shoulder bells out about 1.5" each so they would clear both my biceps and the thickness across the chest/back, and to flatten out the shoulder straps on the backplate to better fit my traps and get the backplate down closer to the kidney.

  12. You must be new here !! Those are the famous FX helmets , just about all you could get until a decade or so ago.

The shatter supporters club are all wearing FX armour and helmets .

FX armour is still around , but the helmets have thankfully just about died out .

New enough to have joined most of the forums after the FX bucket had been disallowed for 501st approval. And now I know why. I don't think I've ever seen it from the side before- it's dreadful!

I'm currently hugging my ANOVOS bucket and rocking quietly. LOL

Just seen a post from the 501st....

And noticed .....There is too much of a gap between ab and kidney, drop boxes should be hanging with 1mm to no gap from the belt. Remove black elastic between chest and back plate. Shatner is not an acceptable prop e-11! What else did I miss?

    ---------

Oh, the horror! What the heck is up with the top of those buckets?

They look like rectangles with the top corners rounded off.

  14. I think it probably depends on what you are planning to do with it.
Loads of troopers like the hyperfirm rubber blasters, as if you're trooping and a little kid (or big kid) wants to hold it for a photo you don't have to worry about them dropping it and breaking it.
It's also light enough that you won't have a dead arm after a whole day of holding it while you troop.

There's a guy on ebay now who is doing a very nice looking ABS 3D printed one with a functioning stock, bolt, and fire select switch- but it comes as a ~75 part kit and requires
a fair bit of sanding and assembly. There are a number of makers out there who have resin kits cast off of real Sterlings (and the additional accessories).

Then there are guys doing pipe builds and loading their guns with sound and light boards, etc, etc.

  15. I can get it in 0.5l cans but it means an order to a specialist supplier who will probably be required to keep a record of the sale.

Loads of stuff you can get in the US is a controlled substance here.

It happens here in the states too.

To buy my leather contact cement in 1gal cans I have to have a proper business tax registry. Otherwise the most they can sell to an individual is 1qt at a time.

Because, somehow, glue is more dangerous than gallons at a time of petrol. :/
